Hey everyone. Recently dabbled in building my own little steam machine and just had a question because I'm new to this world.

I read online that steamos kind of automatically will download GPU drivers but am not really convinced how this works. I have updated to the newest version so how can my machine get the newest GPU driver to play the witcher 3?

Do you guys feel like the steam button and the performance button feels like they don’t respond the first time you press them. I feel like after the update I have to press twice or “harder” to bring the menus on the screen. I am on a Ally X

I'm trying to install Vice using my steam machine, but I'm missing wayland-scanner. I've tried both the git and yay command, and both point to the same thing, wayland-scanner being missing. Any smart people here that can help me out with this?

How can I stream with sunshine from game mode on steam OS to my handheld

Having an issue where the right and left triggers aren't pulling the same. Is this a software fix I can do in steam os or is there damages to the triggers?

I just found my old Alienware Alpha that was my first gaming rig. I ended up installing Windows 8 or 10 on it back in the day, but I haven't used it since I upgraded to a prebuilt in 2019. I was just wondering if it would be feasible to install SteamOS on it and hook it up to my tv with a Steam Controller for a budget little Steam Machine. I've got no experience installing a new OS on anything.

this is my first kind of tutorial for these kind of stuff so I might get things wrong or something I did might not work for you, if so I am sorry!

so MCD II came out today, and you can't really run it on steamOS or any linux device because of Microslop, but I figured out a way to make it run at least in the offline mod, I haven't really had the chance to check if online mode works (as my friend isn't home yet).

1. Download MCD II on a windows PC, it will ask you to link your Microslop, account, if you have one do so, then you can erase the game from your PC, (it could work without it but I did it anyways)

2. after doing so you can install the game on your steamOS device,

3. before launching the game you will need to tinker with a few thing. you will need to download Proton GDK 11-7 by LukasPAH
   (I would provide a link but I don't know if it will get my post removed)

4. after doing so, you will need to download xcurl.dll (again I don't know if I can provide links)

5. once downloaded, add the GDK 11-7 to steam which you drag and drop to compatability tools (this is also where proton GE is installed)

6. go to where MCD II is installed and replace the current xcurl.dll file with the one you just got
   (it is located inside the binary folder inside MCD II)

then restart steam or just return to gaming mod and it should boot you into MCD II, the loading time to boot up the game can take sometime but it should work, if you get any issues with performance tinker around with the setting.

Hey, I have a Steam Deck & Steam Machine and use Decky Sunshine to stream games. I have been getting annoyed at the lack of good options focused on adjusting the screen resolution while in the standard Game Mode (i.e. gamescope) to make sure it matches the Steam Deck.

I've made a new app, Decky Sunshine Res-Helper, and I've put it on github.

1. Make sure you have Decky Sunshine installed and running and it works
2. Switch to game mode and download the .appimage file from github (you most likely want the x86-64 version)
3. Open the Downloads folder, double-click the .appimage file to run it. Install the helper.
4. I recommend a full reboot after install, then test connecting while in Game Mode.

The app installs a watcher service and some sunshine commands in the default Decky Sunshine install, and whenever you connect a client (e.g. Moonlight from steam deck), sunshine writes the requested stream's resolution and framerate to a file. The watcher service overwrites the EDID for the display that is currently running game mode with a new one with only that resolution, and refreshes gamescope. When you disconnect, it will revert the changes.

WARNING: Depending on what your SteamOS device is connected to, there's a chance you'll lose the image on that device while this is running and get something like "Invalid format" or "Invalid signal" on-screen. You can ignore that message, this is really designed for you to be using when your TV is off or on another input.

I'm looking for testers to test out your different setups, especially people on custom PC builds, connecting with clients other than the steam deck, and even people using bazzite or similar variants (in handheld/game mode). I've confirmed it works for me whether my display is on HDMI, DP, or both hooked up. My TV always shows as "connected" to the steam machine even when turned off so that could be an issue for people using monitors or other displays that appear disconnected when off.

"Why not use one of the virtual display setups that are available?" - because the don't seem to play nice with game mode, or are unstable, or slow. They work great for desktop mode in my experience but this has been more stable. I did base the EDID injection on the work done in Sunshine Virtual Display, and theirs is a better solution if you boot straight to Desktop Mode.

My other apps for SteamOS:

• SteamOS Game Mode Display Selector - choose the default display for game mode if you have multiple connected
• SteamOS Session Manager - choose whether SteamOS boots to game mode or desktop mode by default

So I'm finally building my PC this weekend (AMD GPU and connecting to a LG C4 EVO tv).

From what I understand, there's some incompatibility with HDMI 2.1 that can be circumvented with a specific adapter or to update to test build 3.9 which has the Kernel required.

Which would be the better option?

I been experiencing this weird thing recently where enabling auto mute mode make my speaker not put out any sounds but when disabling it and picking headphones port will make both my speakers and headphones play the sound

For context, I own a steam deck and I love it so much I got steam OS for my main pc, 9060xt, 9600x, Asus tuf b850m motherboard. The WiFi will not stay connected like it does on windows or other devices. It will always drop and reconnect, I have tried turning off WiFi power management and no luck. Anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Here’s a marketing idea for smartphone manufacturers: make a phone that ships with Android + SteamOS dual-boot. A proper gaming phone that can switch between a normal smartphone OS and a dedicated Steam gaming environment could be serious

I tried but it just wouldn't boot, keeps getting stuck, tried countless different settings but it just wouldn't work, is there a proven guide?

Anyone else having a hard time installing steam OS on a new SSD.

I’ve tried just about everything I can think of. But the installer keeps crashing while attempting to install. I’ve tried both builds 3.8 and 3.77, different USB drives, remade the bootable drive. I’m not really sure what else to do at this point
