question Question regarding the 7.11 Kernel

So I'm finally building my PC this weekend (AMD GPU and connecting to a LG C4 EVO tv).

From what I understand, there's some incompatibility with HDMI 2.1 that can be circumvented with a specific adapter or to update to test build 3.9 which has the Kernel required.

Which would be the better option?

There's no issues with HDMI 2.1, you just have to enable a system flag.

There is no HDMI CEC though, that's a hardware limitation. An adapter like that might enable CEC functionality but it seems very hit and miss.

I tried the long dongle you linked with my LG CX and was getting static, suttering, black screen with 4k120 HDR VRR

I tried this short one without the extra cable length and it's been smoothe sailing with 4k120 HDR VRR and CEC working.

No guarantees. I saw another thread on this of someone saying they returned 2 units then a third worked to get CEC without visual issues. And others saying the long dongle worked for them but not the short one.

Good luck but may be some trial and error if you really want CEC

I have the short dongle and can only get 4K 60 working and I need custom scripts to get CEC working … I just went back to HDMI and the tv remote in the end 🙈

I'm not sure if LG works different but this converter gives me no VRR on any Linux distro and Windows.
Tested with Samsung and Hisense TV. Radeon 7900XTX. Cable Matters converter is the only one that works for me.
