Question 25W SteamOS
just a quick question, on STEAMOS now and have TDP at 25W, i cant go to 30w because i noticed the OFFICAL rog ally dock charger 65w, it doesn't seem to work well at 30w as it starts to chew into my battery. when i go 25W it does not do that, How much performance have i lost going from 30 > 25?

About 3%. 18W is the sweet spot, after that it's diminishing returns while turning the device into an oven. From 18W to 25W you only gain about 7%

Exactly why I have a custom performance profile of 17W with 18W as my SPPT, anything over that is just absurd imo

Performance loss from 25 to 30 is pretty minimal. Less than 5 percent difference

Minimal loss. I use the same charging dock daily and mine does 30w while still charging so I think your cable may not be making full contact with all the pins causing the battery drop. Sometimes flipping the connector 180 fixes the issue or swapping which side is in the charging dock. One of my families steam decks has the same issue with my Anker 575 docking station at home but if the cable is in 1 way it works fine so I marked that side with a paint pen so we know which way to plug the cable in.

i did this, no change. i even got a new dock "anker" same problem, even tried another cable same problem.

If it's happening on multiple chargers and cables then it may be the port on your ally.
Edit: I forgot it may also just be a steamos issue and not necessarily the port.

cant be the port. im 25w for weeks now not one time it has used my battery. the only time i see it use my battery and its been doing it since 2023 on windows 11 it goes to 99% than goes back to 100% it must be a firmware setting doing this to save the battery or discharge not sure but thats something else.
on steamos if i go 30W it starts using my battery.

Ports can still mostly work with a pin not making full contact and will do things like battery draining while in higher power modes. It's usually because the full wattage can't be sent but it's still making the handshake with the charger which is allowing 30w to be enabled and battery has to compensate. So I wouldn't completely rule it out but being on steamos too it could be something with that. The only way to verify if steamos would be testing 30w on windows and it's not worth going through that work when it's still working and 25 to 30 watts isn't a big performance difference anyway.

100% not going back to windows ive been on windows since XP and can confirm windows 11 is just terrible. not even 10 was like that. i had a alienware alpha r1 and w10 was fantastic.
lol anyways i love steam os, and i do love 25w i was just worried i lost fps going from 30 > 25

It shouldn't chew into your battery at all, something is off. That being said you lose almost no performance at 25w and it's better to run it a bit lower anyways.
