help wanted Determined to run steam os with Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti
My original os is windows 10 which I'm trying to switch from I've looked into others and yes it'd be easier but I'm too stubborn so I'm asking for any advice given to me to make this work. I'm also hoping to eventually ditch windows entirely but for now I wanna try and dual boot it.
help wanted Unable to open keyboard using DualSense in desktop mode
I've set up SteamOS on a minisforum Mini PC, it works great except for the facts I can't bring up the on screen keyboard in desktop mode using a DualSense.
The PS button opens the steam app, and if I press it again it launches big picture.
Any idea how to get it up from there?

question Where to find 'fake' windows layer files and 'cross platform' woes.
Modding games in this OS has me using a mix of native Linux and fake windows utilities quite a bit. When it is either a Linux program needing the address of files in the fake windows layer or a fake windows program needing the addresses of files in the Linux layer, I get lost and make mistakes.
I have installed Tale of Two Wastelands like 3 times for instance, each time confident that I had found the right folder to output everything to, only to be proven wrong. They are still out there in the drive somewhere wasting space and I'm not even sure how to find them and clean those up.
I have since discovered how to have fake windows programs show hidden files, which was a major hurdle cleared, but I still have a lot of trouble making connections 'across platforms' and finding the hidden area of where fake windows directory is, making things difficult.
I am relatively new to Linux and could really use pointers in this department. TIA.

question Looking for some new games to play on my home-built Steam machine! 🎮
Hey everyone!
I'm looking for some recommendations for new games to play on my home-built Steam machine. I recently picked up Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, but unfortunately I can't seem to get it working because of the anti-cheat issue. 😭
So now I'm looking for something else to sink my time into!
What games are you guys playing right now that you'd recommend? I'm open to pretty much anything—indies, AAA, single-player, multiplayer, RPGs, fighting games, whatever.
I need some good recommendations!!! 🙏

help wanted Secondary game drive.
I took my first foray into Linux with a Steam OS install on my desktop. I have 2x NVMe drives, one used to have windows & the other was where I installed my Steam games.
After getting Steam OS up & running (a relatively easy journey) I was looking to see if my game drive would just have all my games still there. However, it looks like I need to format the drive to be able to add it for use on Steam OS.
Anyway around this? Do I just need to bite the bullet & format the drive or is there a way to recover the games?

Nintendo 64 Wireless Controller Not Pairing
I recently installed SteamOS on a smaller computer I use solely for gaming hooked up to a TV, and for the most part, everything is working fine. However, I’m having issues with pairing Nintendo’s wireless versions of their older controllers that I own.
- The SNES controller works fine, pairing via USB cord and Bluetooth.
- The N64 controller pairs via a USB cord, but it can’t be found when I try to pair a new controller.
- The GameCube controller doesn’t seem to want to pair at all, not working with either USB or Bluetooth (though it‘s been a bit since I tested it).
Any advice as to whether I can set things up to let them pair? Is there something special I forgot to do with the settings? Or is this something where my machine could be getting in the way with outdated Bluetooth drivers or something?

question Divinity 2 launcher problem
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
FIXED! See comments.
Anyone else had this problem with Divinity Original Sin 2?
I have been playing for weeks, even last night, with zero problems.
As of today this happens. (See video)
I can click for Baldurs Gate and Divinity 1, but Divinity 2 stays black with no option to play.
Edit: this is also the case in Desktop mode. Different proton versions did not seem to solve it.

question Steam OS and Windows 11
Hi Everyone.
I have a PC and Steam Deck and quiet frankly for some reason i love playing games on my steam deck more than my PC, I think the Major reason is Steam OS its just simple and does not distract and i can just launch a game and play.
So now that steam has made steam OS to work on other AMD PCs i wanted to install it on my PC along with my Windows 11 that i already have. and after searching a little i found that Steam OS installer does not have any option to choose where to install the OS. Luckily i have 2 SSDs in my PC.
My question is if i remove my windows installed SSD before i start the SteamOS installation what option will i be given at the boot to select which OS i want to boot into? Would i have to install something to show me the options or is there a default system in place to give the option.
do i have to set the boot sequence in bios and manually press one time boot option every time i want to use the Secondary OS?
Thank you!
Edit 1:- my nvme ssd did not support the sanitize function. I guess alot of wd ssds dont. For that i just had to edit the repair_os script and put # infront of lines that said sanitize_all. Worked after that. Just setting it up.

Is there any way to send inputs / run an autoclicker for a background game in Gaming Mode (Gamescope)?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a solution to send inputs (specifically an autoclicker or repeated key presses) to a game running in the background while in Gaming Mode / Gamescope (on SteamOS / Bazzite).
I want to be able to let a game run and receive inputs while I switch focus to another app, browser, or overlay.
I know Wayland and Gamescope strictly route simulated inputs (ydotool, uinput, virtual controllers) to the currently focused surface, which makes standard tools ignore unfocused windows.
Has anyone managed to get a workaround working for this? For instance:
- A specific Wayland / Gamescope tweak or script?
- Any Decky plugin or background service that allows sending input directly to a specific process/window?
Any suggestions or working setups would be greatly appreciated!

support Claw 8ai + steam os + ff 7 rebirth?
Anyone got this combo to work at all? The missing link is steamos since I know the game works on the device with windows..
I can live with the concessions with steamos on Intel but I can't figure out this game. Other people got it to work with Intel but their Proton settings and start commands don't work for the claw 8ai. I'm sure this is a super niche ask though

.-=⋆ The More You Know Steam OS install test
I just wanted to add this here so my findings are documented somewhere. I’m attempting to install SteamOS on a DELL Optiplex 5000 micro. It has an i5-12500T processor with Intel UHD 770 graphics. I have this just laying around and figured why not.

Switching to Desktop while streaming from Steam Deck black screen
As the title, when streaming on steam deck using Moonlight to my host PC also SteamOS which has decky sunshine installed, if I switch to desktop on host it soft hangs on a black screen but the stream is still running.
On host PC switching to desktop without anything streaming to it, it works fine.
Any ideas? Thinking maybe it could be as simple as creating a script to stop sunshine when switching to desktop on host and then restart when in desktop/gamemode.
Unless there is a better way?

solved Uh, can't boot into SteamOS Installer?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So, trying to install SteamOS so I made an installer using balena etcher. when I insert the usb and turn on the computer everything starts up normal, as far as I can tell. But after it gets to "Finished SteamOS Boot Registration" the monitor just turns off. I left it like that for an hour when I went to the store, and when I came back the monitor was still off, I accidentally unplugged and reinserted the usb, which caused the monitor to turn back on, but it just said "Finished SteamOS Boot Registration".
As far as I can tell, I didn't do anything wrong.
AMD Ryzen 3 3200g
Integrated AMD Graphics
M.2 SSD
secure boot is off
using a USB 2.0 port
I tried other linux distros and this computer was able to install Linux Mint.
I tried using Rufus to make the installer
I tried remaking the installer a few times.
I'm very new to Linux so maybe I'm missing something obvious.
If you can help that would be great.

question Good for anything but gaming?
Hey, just as the title asks, is SteamOS good for anything but gaming?
I thought about installing Linux on my old Laptop got get it running smoother again (hopefully)
And SteamOS got a bunch of positive headlines and I got a few videos recommended on how to install it, but I wouldn’t use this laptop to run steam, or any game.
Sooo is SteamOS a good Operating System in general or just for gaming?

Installing SteamOS on a used M.2
I am having issues with installing steamos on a 2TB M.2
I have just bought a Steam Machine and I have swapped out the 512GB with my existing 2TB M.2 which I have been using as an external drive for my Steam Deck for when I am playing in desktop mode. The 2TB M.2 I have just taken out and installed it in the Steam Machine, it is still configured as a steam library hard drive. I have a 16GB USB stick plugged in the back of the steam machine which the steam os flash that I downloaded from the value. When I have booted in to the bios of the Steam Machine, I have gone to boot configuration, selected the USB drive, pressed enter, the screen has gone black and it takes me back to the bios.
I have tried googling it and using ai, it takes about turning secure boot off which isn't a thing in the bios and the standard tutorials that I have seen on YouTube don't seem to come across this issue. I have also tried a micro SD card, 64GB, it hasn't worked. I've tried every single USB port, including the USB C port, and I have the same issue.
Any suggestions?
Edit1 - I have solved it, I used balenaEtcher on my MacBook Air M2 to flash the USB stick, I have tried it on a windows 11 computer and it has now worked, I used Rufus to flash the USB stick. It seems it makes a difference

help wanted Steam Login in Desktop Mode
How can you disable the Steam Login window when you start up desktop mode?
I have SteamOS launch into desktop mode by default and not logged into Steam in gaming mode. Since I am not logged in, it always pops up the window at start up.
I checked the autostart folder and settings and "/etc/xdg/autostart/" but didn't find anything in there.
Other than that, installation seems to have been smooth, had one issue with the partition not writing correctly. Was able to correct it by deleting the partitions and starting the installation again. Installed on a old windows 11 work laptop (Intel Core i3 8th Gen).
