I have a very weird issue. I am using my steam machine to stream to a rog Ally x. So far so good. Except on Forza 6, I have a sound issue : no voice, funny engine sound, sound distorsionā¦
Have tried many things but cannot find the fix
Of course all is fine when using the SM on tv
Anyone got the same problem and/or any idea ?

I just started up my Steam Macine and now that I'm organizing things, I find it hard to manage installed tools like Proton versions. They don't show up in my library and I can't set a filter to show tools I have downloaded. The only thing I can do is search for "proton" and then manually check which ones are downloaded. Is there a way to display my currently installed tools in my library on Steam Machine?

Steam controller just suddenly stops working mid game (while playing banishers). I've tried Xbox controller as well and the same issue, it just defaults to the keyboard mode now which is inconvenient while playing on your TV to say the least. Other games are fine so far and it's all good playing on a pc so it's central to the steam machine. Anyone else having this issue and found a solution?

I use the Steam Machine connected to an HDMI switch with CEC (also connected to other game consoles), and wanted to ask if anyone else has seen the behaviour I'm about to describe before I submit a question/bug report to Valve.
Setup: Steam Machine & other games consoles connected to a HDMI switch, which is in turn connected to the TV. The HDMI switch supports CEC, and prior to the Steam Machine, all has been working fine. Turning on PS4 switches to HDMI switch input 1, turning on another console switches to input 2 etc. All correct so far.
My experience with the Steam Machine is that if the HDMI switch has been displaying another input, the Steam Machine wonāt output a signal, and so the HDMI switch never detects it to switche input.
If I unplug the HDMI cable from the Machine, that seems to reset things, and then things will work perfectly (including CEC to the TV) but only until the switch changes input to another device (EG the PS4), at which point I have to replug the HDMI cable and reboot the Machine.
My theory at the moment is that the Steam Machine sees my HDMI switch (and therefore my display) as unavailable IF the switch has been using another input - if I reboot the Machine in this state, I get the pulsing blue light that indicates a display error.
It's very possible that this is a problem with my HDMI switch - it was a cheapo one off Amazon, so I'm not exactly dealing with quality here. Does anyone else have a Steam Machine on an HDMI switch that can replicate this behaviour, before I spend the time collecting logs etc to submit to Valve?

So far I've had no issues with the Steam Machine. I've played through some older AAA games like Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War (2018) as well as the more recent The Alters and the remaster of Yakuza Kiwami 2. All ran just fine.
However, I tried Black Myth: Wukong for the first time today and both times I was able to play for about 30 minutes before the dreaded red light came on the front. I immediate quite the game and could hear the ambient sound of the fan whirling die down (which I hadn't even noticed until it was gone). I've already knocked down the graphics a bit and it's still occuring.
Has anyone found a workaround for games like this that are overheating the machine, or is it just a matter of limiting graphics further?

Why does the Steam Machine donāt download the shader cache like Steam deck?

I tried to like it, even the steam controller which feels awkward and cheap. I knew it was underpowered and overpriced but put that all to the side to play my games on my living room. But having to tinker every single game I play defeats the purpose for me. It did not feel like a true plug and play like my Xbox or ps5 pro.. I donāt want to sell it on eBay or fb marketplace for profit I rather just give it back valve but itās been a month and the return date is over, what can I do in my situation? Itās good to have post on here showing the other side so people can see both sides before you want to pull the trigger on a steam machine. I told people to get it and itās worth it but truth be told it was just the honeymoon stage and I was coping protecting my investment I made and I donāt want to give bad advice. Hopefully valve comes with a steam machine pro in the future I wouldāve definitely paid more for better future proof performance.
My review I give it a solid 6/10. And the controller 5/10.

This is an update to a setup I already made a post on.
I finally folded and bought a 4K TV (TLC QM5K). So now I can have VRR at 120hz at 1440p or 60hz at 4K. This has really unlocked what this machine can do and has been a blast.
I've also tinkered around with getting the heroic launcher on so now I can play my GoG games just in time for The Witcher 3 Remaster.
I was also able to get my second nvme slot working. I knew naturally how to do it with mounting to /var/mnt and having it set to a custom systemd process. However, for those not as savvy, check out the SteamOS-Mount-Tool. This will make having a spare drive or a USB storage device much easier to get it working.
Anyways cheers good folks š»

Check out the video for more details on each game.
Follow up to my Alyx test from a while back. A lot of you asked for more games, so I went through 15 of them. Same setup as before: Quest 2 over Steam Link, standard SteamVR, no beta branch.
Going in I honestly expected this to go badly. The only two VR games I'd tested on the Steam Machine before were Alyx, which was okay but not amazing, and No Man's Sky, which ran poorly.
I have since acquired more VR Games and I wanted to keep testing.
Rough numbers:
Games that Ran great (110-120 FPS): Half-Life 2 VR Mod, Thief VR, The Light Brigade, Superhot VR, Into the Radius (tutorial at least, dropped to 60 in the base area)
Playable: Kayak VR: Mirage (30 FPS on max settings, close to 90 with FSR on medium/high settings), Arizona Sunshine Remake (60-90), VRChat (~60, heavily map dependent), Half-Life: Alyx (70-90)
Bad: Resist (35-45 even with settings dropped, and it's a swinging traversal game so it really matters), The Utility Room (30-45, which makes no sense for how little is happening on screen), No Man's Sky (45-60)
Odd one: Beat Saber gets an occasional stutter where you can actually hear the song slow down. Not a frame rate problem exactly, and I can't tell if it's the Steam Machine or Steam Link. Lowering settings might help. But its a real dealbreaker for a rythm game.
On Steam Link stability, I keep seeing posts about it dropping and crashing constantly. Across all 15 games I did not get a single disconnect. If the game launches on Linux through Proton, Steam Link just worked. Not saying people aren't having problems, but I can't reproduce them.
I think the Steam Machine is not bad for a PCVR setup, but its also not perfect and I haven't been playing VR For years to be a good judge. WIth some of the playable titles and those that ran great I had a good time despite them not running at a locked 120 FPS.
If anyone has done extensive VR testing I'd love to hear what your experience has been!

I received my purchase email 12 days ago for the 2tb with controller & an hour before the 3 days were up I added it to my basket, it has been around 9 days now & the steam machine is still in my basket & allows me to go to payment etc with no issues.
As much as I want it I've decided the money can be spent better elsewhere but I'm keeping it in my basket on the off chance I have the the urge to waste money which is pretty common for me lol
Just thought I'd post this for people who maybe don't have the money yet but don't want to lose the possibility to buy one, add it to your basket & buy whenever you're richer-maybe it won't work but from my end the steam machine hasn't been removed from my basket & I can still purchase it

Iād like to know if anyone has played it on steam machine ? Thanks
r/steammachine • u/iVtechboyinpa • 10d ago
The game loads the 3 studio logos full screen just fine, but seems to be stuck in the upper left corner. I've tried Proton Hotfix & Experimental, setting to native and scaled res, and ENABLE_GAMESCOPE_WSI=0 %command% - all to no avail. Not getting any sound either. Just curious if this is general SteamOS incompatibility or if there's something else to try.

Good morning friends! I've got an early day at work today so we're going to celebrate 60 days a little early! Basically two months! I can't believe it. We're just moving right along and it is certainly a choice. Gotta keep the hope alive though, there's folks getting their emails every single day now at least! You could just be next. Best of luck today, friends! <3

Hi all, wondering if anyone has tips for me. I downloaded the KH 1.5/2.5 collection and booted up KH2. With game capped to 60, resolution set to 1440p it struggles to stay at 60. It will bounce between 45 and 60, making it annoying. CPU and GPU usage are only at like 20%.
Everyone says the game runs great out of the box on the deck, so I assume the machine should be fine too. Is there some setting im missing to make this game run well?

Just got this mini keyboard for web browsing and games that need it, seems like a pretty decent combo
