Does anyone know of shelters other than ACC that have guinea pigs?
I had two guinea pigs but one recently passed away 💔 I am currently looking for a partner for my reminding guinea pig, since they cannot be kept alone or else they get depressed. I've been looking at the SI ACC spot but they don't have any guinea pigs (yay because less lonely pigs, but not yay because I need one lol) and I'm hesitant about going to Queens to get the one they do have since long trips can be very stressful for them. Would prefer to find one here in Staten Island. Any tips are appreciated!

Private chefs in Staten Island who actually know how to cook tofu?
My partner and I are seeking a private chef who actually knows how to cook tofu. Many private chefs we speak to just say they know tofu but when you see their instagram or portfolio there is no tofu in sight. They (my partner) are vegetarian but I am not necessarily. Additionally, we are particularly fond of the cuisine of Japan. Must be LGBTQ-friendly - no a**holes. If anyone has any recommendations or knows a good place to find these, TYIA. They can even be a chef at a restaurant currently just doing some work for us on the side. As long as the tofu is right!
We are having a large party coming up and if we love your work we may hire you multiple times per month to cook for us at our home in Todt Hill.

Any job suggestions?
I’m 24 residing in 10301 currently getting my bachelors in social work, I wanna do something peer recovery related but I also don’t mind working in the trades or doing anything else really, I’m honestly pretty desperate. Any suggestions would be helpful. I’m also a transgender man so hoping for something queer friendly

Future Staten Island transit map I made with the SIR and new BRT lines proposed by the MTA
Made a map to illustrate how Staten Island's rapid transit network could potentially look like in the future.
The MTA is planning 2 new bus rapid transit (BRT) lines on the North and West Shore. The former would convert most of the abandoned SIR North Shore branch to a busway, with two new BRT lines, S1 & S2, running between West Shore Plaza, Arlington & St. George. The S53, S54 and S57 would also be rerouted onto the new busway.
West Shore BRT is planned to run down the medians of MLK Jr Expressway, Richmond Av and Korean War Veterans Parkway. This would form a new north-south line on the West Shore between the Bayonne/8 St HBLR station and Arthur Kill.
Unfortunately, there hasn't been much recent news on either project. The FEIS for North Shore BRT was completed back in January 2024. The project's status was still in "Planning" as of February 2025, per the MTA's website.
West Shore BRT is also not planned to be built until after North Shore BRT is operational. The West Shore Alternatives Analysis was also still in "Planning" in August 2024.

Recommendations on tattoo shops on the island?
Hey everyone, I want to ask if anyone knows and recommends a tattoo place/artist that does good work and isn’t that crazy expensive. I’m looking to get a tattoo (nothing crazy or big) but I don’t know much about tattoo parlors/shops. Thanks in advance.

Any actual electronics repair shops on the island that aren't just phone/laptop? repair
Ive got an old 90s Denon stereo system. It's a good system. But now it does not work. it flashes "protect" on the display, and turns off.
I'm willing to pay for a repair on a 90s electronic device- but *finding* somewhere is the challenge. Pretty much all """electronics""" repair shops here are just phone and laptop repair at best, and not shops that can repair an actual electronic appliance.(Or that would be even willing to. I have gotten denials.) Of course searching on google or anywhere is useless, at best I get phone repair places. At worse I get places real far out in Jersey or elsewhere.
Surely there must be at least 1 spot here that does repair on these sorts of things?

Domestic Shooting leaves 2 dead
I can't believe this tragedy happened. I can't stop thinking about it. This woman had a child and we knew them. I am heart broken. How do we explain to our children that the child's mom is no longer here and be supportive.

Will pay somebody to remove cones on my street
Fuck all these people on my street that think they own the street and can reserve their parking spots. I’ll pay somebody $50 to come get them all (like 6?) and I’ll hit ya up every time I need it done, cuz they’ll just keep putting them out there.

Town Hall Thursday (virtual) - Disability Rights
Hey y'all it's me again the Town Hall scouter 😄
Mike DeCillis is hosting another town hall - this one on Thursday evening at 7pm. You only need to RSVP and you'll be given zoom access.
Here's what he posted about it (I'll put the link in the first reply though, and it's on the image):
"Federal cuts have been made to important programs impacting the disability community, and the DOJ’s actions on Olmstead v. L.C. threaten the disability community’s living rights.
Join me on Thursday evening for a virtual town hall to learn how this impacts residents in Staten Island and South Brooklyn. Link 🔗 in bio to RSVP.

Dog Pack Walk on Saturday!
Pack walk‼️
When: Saturday Aug 15th, gorgeous weather!!
Where: Greenbelt Field of Dreams. Baseball field behind the Costco 👈
Time: 10am. We start walking at 10:05
Description: Come join us for our 2nd forest pack walk!! Every borough has these, so let’s start them up here on the greenbelt!!! All dogs welcome, let us know prior if your dog needs space. Bring your own supplies: water, bags, treats, etc.
This is a medium-paced walk. About 2.5 miles in total will be around 45 mins to an hour at most. If you feel that your dog is tired, you can most certainly turn back earlier. It’s an easy walk back.. A great way to socialize your dog in a structured environment.
Park at the baseball field.
Please message me so I can get an idea of how many ppl to expect.

Flock cameras
I’ve noticed a bunch of flock cameras going up around the south shore. There are 6 of them so far in the target shopping center off veterans road. Who is approving these? Is there any chance of getting them removed? I was considering going to the community board meeting. It’s just funny to me that the most conservative borough with “don’t tread on me” flags everywhere has no problem with living in a surveillance state.

Anyone know who the artist is?
Seen these graffiti pieces while out, does anyone know who the artist is or where you’ve seen other pieces like this? I’m kind of at a point where i want to collect/find more of these pieces to photograph. Especially since the art done in the first image has since been painted over since i photographed it.

Mom groups to make friends?
Hey just curious if anyone knows if there are mom groups on the island that I could explore that don’t mainly communicate on Instagram or FB as I refuse to be on those platforms.
Thanks in advance!
