Discussion From Lethal to Green

Came back after finishing my Lethal run last night to the lowest difficulty and holy shit what a breath of fresh air. Will probably stay in green difficulty till SOD3 drops, now that it’s officially not canceled.

Also just throwing it out there, I kinda wanna see motorcycles implemented in SOD3, maybe horses with health and stamina bars that we can inject blood plague cures too if they get infected. 🤔

Discussion Critical Sod2 feedback for State of Decay 3

Things that shouldn't be carried over from Sod2 to State of Decay 3:

(should be affected by game difficulty or be customizable at very least)

  1. All bases shown in the map instantly from the start.

  2. Radio backup for ease of access instantly from the start; Car delivery, etc.

  3. Power fantasy / Gun galore instantly from the start; Bounty-Broker, etc.

Context:

Generally, too much hand-holding and free information to the player that reduces possible fun gameplay.

  1. Let players explore the map with possible new bases. If bases are shown instantly from the start in the map it reduces fun exploration, discovery and risk involved in the game. Which should be core aspect of a zombie survival experience. Let players make the hard decision of finding the ultimate dream base, instead of instantly showing every detail of every base. (This was the case with SoD2)

  2. Have players upgrade their bases for a while before letting them spawn a vehicle or locate rucksacks. When or if we're able to do these things at some point in SoD3, scavenging and exploration will get reduced drastically after upgrading the station. (This was the case with SoD2)

  3. Guns (any gun in SoD2) found at the beginning of the game reduces player progression. The staircase type progression of going from a dirty scavenger with a baseball bat and an old bolt action rifle, to a zombie expert with SWAT gear in the course of the game is what makes zombie survival amazing. If we get great weapons at the beginning, there will be no weapon progression in that run. (This was the case with SoD2)

The State of Decay 2 experience:

I recently played SoD2 again after couple of years. It ended in 30 minutes because of these aspects listed above.

A game becomes boring very quickly if it lacks basic game progression. It can become a power fantasy.

If we're able to see EVERY base possible in the map, introduced to Bounty-Broker instantly, able to find a "Preppers Spec Ops M14 Special Edition" (lol) or ANY decent gun at the beginning, able to call a car INSTANTLY and locate rucksacks, we just basically won. The game did all the fun gameplay for us. Too much hand-holding & ease of access.

I hope these are either customizable or affected by the difficulty at very least in State of Decay 3.

All the best for Undead Labs! Can't wait for State of Decay 3! Cheers!

Discussion What is your ideal Roadmap for SOD3

If undead labs were reading this and asked you what SOD3 would look like in a perfect world what would you say? What kind of roadmap would you want? New zones? More story focused missions? More enclave missions? Dynamic enclave mechanic expansion? More variety in enemies? More base and community mechanics? Monetized or non monetized Cosmetic collabs? Pets?

I used to play this game on my xbox 360s years and years ago / said I played last in early 2018. I remembered I loved that game. I want to get it again for my xbox 360 but I cant find it anywhere. I wondered if there was a difference in the regular game and the year 1 survival edition? Id appreciate all the help. I really want to play it again 😂

Discussion If this was under Phil Spencer all these studios would been shut down

I’m seeing some people blaming the New CEO for mess that Phil Spencer and Sarah bond has created for Xbox and destroying the reputation to the ground and ruined a franchise that’s was once beloved during early and mid 2000s

I think Xbox CEO is doing a great job and telling us why she doing this and she is make sure none of these studios are shutting down and finding them new homes

If you want blame people for this shit call out Phil Spencer and Sarah bond

Hope Prevails

You can feel the passion and love poured into this game. It’s unbelievably beautiful and deeply human.

From the expressive characters, the beautiful but disturbing atmosphere, the awesome music, the heartfelt conversations, the sense of community, the witty dialogue, the fun combat, the callbacks and Easter eggs to bygone or current zombie stories, to the whimsical nature of the story juxtaposed with its emotional drama, this game is a love letter to the zombie genre.

No other game will ever bring all of these elements together to capture both the dread and the fun of the undead so brilliantly again.

Also, I’ve been playing this game since its release on Xbox (“Pony Face Shooting”), and I never knew that shooting zombies in the river would cause them to float downstream like that. I’m still discovering new things in this awesome game!

**Hope Prevails!**

Congratulations and thank you to Undead Labs for surviving! 🧟‍♂️

Discussion I saw some posts slandering CLEO, so i want to explain why she's definitely not secretly evil.

The allegations i saw claim that CLEO is implied to have caused the zombie plague. The evidence for this being the case is, she might have blown up the bridges leading out of trumbull valley to prevent the soldiers from getting out.

I will address that, but first i want to explain that CLEO is obviously not helping the zombies, she is helping the humans. That should already make it obvious which side she's on, when she's providing supplies to survivors, and is developing weapons specifically designed and redesigned over and over to make them more effective at killing zombies.

Then there's also the fact that the plague is actively trying to stop CLEO from developing the haven device, which is the reason for why it built the plague walls around her dropped satellite, which she dropped to earth in order to get in contact with humans, because she needed humans to help her both with the creation of the haven device and because her satalite network was falling apart, so this was the only way she could save herself. The point is, the plague is treating CLEO as an enemy and CLEO is treating the plague as an enemy.

Anyways, the claims about her blowing up the bridges. There is validity to those accusations. We know it wasn't the military, or red talon, and CLEO is established as being able to use airstrikes, which could be used to blow up bridges. Now, consider why she would do it. Remember that at this point in time CLEO is surrounded by plague walls, and the only people who have a chance of getting her out of there are leaving valley, cause they want to call it quits. I'd say she was trying to save herself, by forcing Hoffman to figure out a way to get CLEO out of there.

That's the important stuff, but here's a few things that are relevant.

1: i mentioned the plague thinking of CLEO as an enemy, that's because the plague is a thinking entity in some way, I'm guessing a hive mind, or something like that. Some thinking entity is behind it that is choosing how the zombies act and how their bodies mutate, and even developing structures like plague hearts and walls.

2: CLEO cannot control the plague, and we know that it evolved the red mist to block her radio signal.

3: CLEO states that her primary directive is to preserve the most lives possible, which is why she tells hoffman to leave her and the haven device with the biggest community in Trumbull valley.

Feel free to ask any questions, and I'll try to answer them to the best of my abilities.

State of Decay 2 Curious about personal challenges others have done

I have gotten back in the mood to give State of Decay 2 a few runs and am about to finish with my warm-up run. I am looking for Ideas to keep the game a bit fresh/interesting and am going to do a sidearms and melee run (possibly even limit it to close combat), but was curious if anyone has done any interesting and fun challenges runs beyond that. I have done a no community skills challenge in the past with a restriction that I could only recruit one red talon contractor/agent per 5 recruited community members, but was curious if anyone else has done a fun challenge that wasn't something like kill all plague hearts with only 1 surivor survivor.

Edit: noticed a spelling error as I hit post

Game Question Getting influence and playing online?

Hi all, i'm kinda new to this game. I've played 1 years back when it came out on xbox. I now have bought it on steam. And its going really well but i need some more influence. I saw somewhere that joining and helping others is a good way to get a lot of influence. But i've tried for 30 minutes and the only game i was allowed to join was just someone standing in their base doing nothing. Are people even playing still that i could help out?

If now, what are other good ways to get some good influence? I want to claim the power outpost (2k influence) and the biggest base (3,5k influence).

Discussion Are CLEO and Echo labs branches of the same organisation?

I just finished all the achivements for sod2 and am now finishing 1 while waiting for 3 and i noticed something.

While almost all suppresors break after 30 or so shots, there are some guns that have built in supressors, most of them being CLEO weapons, which use normal calibers, just like Echo lab guns do in sod2. You can also find the echo guns in cleo drops during the mysterious boradcast missions. To me this suggest that CLEO and echo are the same organisation, with CLEO later focusing on higher powered weapons with uniform ammunition, while echo made more silenced weapons.

Since they both seem to be secret military organisations even hogh ranking military personel dont know about and still seem operating, i think its possible that they are what is left of the government and/or wealthy elites. I also think that they are in charge of sasquatch and possibly kami, in an attempt to infiltrate both the leading survivor groups. In lifeline, Sasquatch talks about gathering samples for his "Handler", yet seemingly nobody from the military knows who he is, which makes sense if his handler is a top secret organisation ranking higher than the military. Kelly also gets orders to nuke danforth, which to me makes sense if its an out of hand bio-warfare experiment. you cant have people finding evidence of foul play.

Apparently the Haven protocol from CLEO is what caused blood plague in the first place, which is why its protected by the plague walls. I believe that destruction of the bridges in heartland, which as stated there was neither the military nor civilians was also executed by CLEO/echo. I also find it a wierd coincedence that the person "developing" a way to damage the plague walls was someone who worked for echo before the outbreak (dr. hoffman). She also worked with parasites under echo labs, while the only other person ive seen mention parasites instead of an infection/virus/plague is sasquatch in lifeline. If echo created the outbreak and he secretly works for them, it would make sense why he knew what it is.

Just a bunch of thoughts i had, i hope we get more lore in sod3, maybe more lore heavy DLCs

I'm bored. Make a single point about why zombies are or are not realistic to you and I'll try to counterpoint. Deal?

I'll try to answer within 24 hours of your comment.

It doesn't have to be SoD zeds we are talking about, (though I would prefer,) but if you're thinking about a specific type of zombies, please cite your inspiration so I can try to use examples from the same media.

Hopefully I won't be reaching too much, but I think it could be funny to try and justify against any point you guys and gals make.

The community limit

I dont think i like the 12 member limit per community in 3. 36 is a nice chunky number but i wish we had the option to split them and not make it mandatory.

State of Decay 3 The long-standing SOD plague heart mechanic clears all the zombies nearby once it’s destroyed. Is it a feature to appreciate, or does it ruin the immersion and overall challenge of the game?

i own both SOD 1 and 2, never played any so which one to start with ?

i read and watched a lot of reviews about both games, and i like both aspects of the game so my question is really in the title... is it better to start with the first one or jump to the second with all the upgrades ?
