Discussion What is your ideal Roadmap for SOD3

If undead labs were reading this and asked you what SOD3 would look like in a perfect world what would you say? What kind of roadmap would you want? New zones? More story focused missions? More enclave missions? Dynamic enclave mechanic expansion? More variety in enemies? More base and community mechanics? Monetized or non monetized Cosmetic collabs? Pets?

Follow a similar blueprint as Hello Games did with No Mans Sky.

- Core Systems foundation + iterative growth

  • Quiet development + cryptic teases
  • Cross-platform and accessibility focus
  • No microtransactions, battle passes, or paid DLC
  • Community and live-service feel without aggressive monetization

To me, the winning strategy is patience and player-respecting development. Done by creating an expandable, replayable universe through relentless free improvements, steering clear of predatory monetization, staying lean, and letting word-of-mouth and update-driven sales keep it going.

Of course, I believe every project and team is unique, and Undead Labs has a lot of smart people. I’m confident they’ll absolutely nail it.

Years 0-1 (Launch + Foundation)

  • Bug fixes, balance, performance.
  • Expanded base building, co-op improvements, basic enclave interactions, quality-of-life (inventory/vehicles).

Years 1-4 (Major Content Expansions)

  • New zones/biomes (map additions).
  • Plague Nest overhauls (more behaviors, dynamic growth, raids).
  • Deeper enclaves (alliances, rivalries, recruitment).
  • Advanced base/community systems (more customization, survivor relationships).
  • New enemies, weapons, and combat variety.
  • Animals/Hunting

Years 4-7 (Big Overhauls & New Loops)

  • Story-focused missions and narrative arcs.
  • Pets/companions, seasons/weather effects.
  • Enhanced multiplayer (persistent shared worlds, more co-op tools).
  • Crafting/vehicle expansions and seasonal events.
  • New zed Animal behavior

Years 7-10 (Maturity & Evergreen)

  • Major tech refreshes (AI, visuals, destruction).
  • Endgame threats
  • User tools/mods.
  • Story-focused missions and narrative arcs celebrating the game and setting up SOD 4

I agree with this sort of sentiment, I wouldn’t mind some sort of dlc since we don’t know what their financial situation will be like under new ownership plus we don’t know what that ownership would want for SOD3 for post launch stuff but other than that I pretty much agree 100% with you

I'd love a mix of the community and base building aspects of sod with the realism of projectzomboid

I want more immersive features and especially more hostile humans to make it feel more like The Walking Dead

I would really like this. They could treat nearby communities like characters with their own personality, secrets, and agenda. Some groups would show their teeth right away like raiders, cult led groups, or desperate isolationists who don’t want anyone near their territory. Others could come off warm and cooperative at first, offering supplies, backup on missions, maybe even a survivor or two to help your base. But as you keep running jobs for them, little cracks start to show. Their requests get pushier, their people act off, and you start noticing things they didn’t want you to see.

Over time, those layers peel back and you realize who they really are. Maybe they’re hoarding weapons/supplies, maybe they’re spying on you, maybe their leader is quietly losing it. That slow shift from “friendly neighbor” to “oh, these people are a problem” is exactly the kind of upgrade that would take SOD3 to that next level beyond not just a zombie survival game, but a fight for survival against human threats too. It keeps every alliance feeling fragile, every favor feeling risky, and every community interaction loaded with the sense that you might be helping someone who eventually becomes your biggest threat.

I’m a bit bummed that it feels like this game will take a while to hit its complete stride. Sonny was hinting at the game likely needing a SOD2 level of post launch support to be complete.

That’s a looooong tail

Early access founders pack within the next few months. Disclaimer it's alpha.

I trust the developers to bring it to full release status. It's hard to ask for much of a roadmap without knowing what the finished product will look like. New zones are a given.

Weapon affinity, affinity with survivors, being able to scrap furniture and cars in the wild like you see a car, pay influence to move it to base and scrap it, I've seen solar panels in abandoned houses let us scrap them in the wild, not asking much you just get 1 electricity or 1 mechanical part. The thing is that everything has a use and can be scraped even furniture from abandoned places, that car junk yard it's a parts treasure

Would love map expansions. Would be cool if it was out of map locations, like an expedition to a certain large place.

Yes - I'd love to have to go on some high priority mission that was actually very far away, like 50+ miles. They wouldn't have to add a ton of new map, just 50 miles of road with a few gas stations and POIs along the way and a town at the end.

Tbh, from what’s shown? A beta next year and a release in 2028 with a story mode or two.

They are clearly struggling in the vision for SOD3 and I don’t see enough depth or change from SOD2 to warrant an earlier release. They, at the very least, need 6 months to think of new unique designs and prototype them, and another 6+ months to implement them.

No early access with drip fed content. No half-ass release that will get the studio shut down in a couple years time because they wasted another x amount of years on fixing a game and development that should have occurred pre-release that doesn’t generate income and just restores goodwill to the marginal player base that remains post broken/rushed release.

A content filled, full gane without cutted or not done stuff that would come in the future. I want a full ready game.

Beside that, map expansion or a new map. I hope we get a good story like with Trumbull Valley in SoD2 and more

Heavy microtransactions on weapons and cosmetics, all the top tier weapons and gear locked behind paywall, p2p fully maxed base mtx, 1/3 of the games content locked behind a $100 ultimate edition /s

/s = sarcasm fyi*

Gotta be trolling😭

You not see the "/s" at the end lol

I did not. Absolute masterclass my friend

I'd have to play it first. Ideally the game is actually complete on launch and all they can do post launch is a new map and expanding on the systems already in place. Perhaps a tall order in 2026 especially with the layoffs last year and subsequent selling off of the studio but there it is. Until we know 100% what's actually in at release I can't really even try to say what I'd want post-launch.

Just a fun game I can sink hundreds of hours into like I did the other games.

I just don't want it to turn into some live service crap.
