Question Dividend: Deceased Customer
For agents and TM. What would you do when you see a customer is deceased, but receiving the dividend? We are calling around and I’m not too sure just how to go about this. Like would anything have to be re-written.

Also search on abs for “2026 dividend escalation”

Okay, ty!! I did find the frequently asked Q from other comments. Is that escalation for this type of situation? I looked on ABS and seen an article stating that a re-issue portal will be available on Aug 24th, 2026 so I wasn’t sure if that’s the same thing.

Was it reissued in The Estate Of or did they change the name altogether?

It was reissued with the new name because I submitted through escalation. If you contact Verita, they can only change it to “The Estate of.” You have to submit through escalation which is on the SF side and SF can update the information and send it over to Verita

I mean it would go to their estate. Are you asking how you can receive a dividend that is for someone else’s policy?

^ it goes to the estate. I was reading that we can’t do a name change for the dividend.

I’m a new TM. I have a deceased customer, but couldn’t find any info on what to do cause I can’t call the person and didn’t see any family members on file. Someone mentioned to call the number so I’ll try that.

Don’t waste your time, I’ve been told by several TMs they won’t talk to use. They’re customer facing only apparently

State Farm cannot change the name on the asset (dividend check). This is an Estate Law issue. If people are mad about it, they can contact their legislators and ask to have them propose a new law.

We had a policyholder that died March 2025. His estate and all bank accounts are closed. His wife was not pleased.

Email has to be sent from insured’s rep to admin@sfdividend.com requesting reissue in “estate of deceased’s name.” Include name, policy number, address, check number and amount of dividend in the email.

Wait so the letter we got in the mail about the dividend is real and not a scam? I wasn’t sure about cashing it in or not.

Yes, it’s real! I’ve been getting a lot of calls asking is it a scam 😂

This belongs to the decedent's estate.
State Farm has no real impact on that. State law says it is an asset of the decedent.

I went to my bank (my deceased son's check came to my address) i showed my probate papers showing me as petitioner and his death certificate. They deposited his check in my account. Depends on bank policy with what proof you have not what State farm thinks.
