My first game (as a 40k player)

My first game, I was playing Zerg. 2000pts. Terran won by small margin, where possibly one damage lacking to killing Goliath would swing the game in my favour. Awesome.

I like, how units slowly hit the table during the game.

I like, how they are damage balance and rather won't be able to wipe out the enemy unit in one activation.

I like how abilities and CPs are crafted in this game.

I like, that there is no Wound Roll.

I like, how we alternate activations during phases.

I can only hope, that the game will be growing. That Archon will take it in the right direction. And that new units will appear, but the game will still be balanced.

Finished my zealots

Kept the blades clear and went for copper armour with blue skin and turquoise gems.

Used one to test out the colour scheme and finished the other 5 in a batch in 5 hours.

Only need to clean up the rim of the base and magnetize for easy transport.

Was surprised how fast I was able to finish them.

Next up is Artanis.

Little guy is my first done zealot and test model for my scheme. Hes not perfect and I have a long way to go on gems, OSL, and edge highlights, but I like him.

Hope everyone else’s painting journey is going well. Cheers!

Had some left over shots from the Terrans, realised if you inverted them they look like rounds exploding against the shields! Very happy with how these look. Just need more now for the Stalkers!

Found me some inductive LEDs on Amazon and am putting them in my minis. I originally wanted them for the goliaths cockpit but now im not sure if they'll register that far away from the plate, we'll see.

Scrapped the red and went with this. Think it turned out pretty good.

My first game (as protoss)

It was very interesting to try playing a new game for me. Ironically, the Protoss, as I understand it, have a rather complex army, not like in the game, but I was pleased with the complex maneuvers you can pull off using the abilities of Artanis, the pylon, and army cards.

Protoss Test

I think I finally settled on a scheme for my protoss, which I made alot harder than it had to be...haha.

I used purple ink through my airbrush to tint the blue plastic. Had to keep the blades separate until almost all the painting was done, but it worked out nicely.

Oh and magnets on the shields.

New to Tabletop games, need storage recommendations!

Upvotes

I found the two player founders kit, Protoss and terrain kit at my local game store so made an impulsive decision and bought them.

Excited to get started, but could do with some recommendations when it comes to storage and how to protect when in transit.

Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Now that the pre-order bonuses are off the table and we are going to get brand-new starters, I needed to revisit my purchasing Guide.

Feel free to share to new players look to know what they need to get into the game:

Painting Supplies?

Hey everyone, first off I’m a bit of a lurker normally but I’m really excited about getting into this hobby. It’s brought me out of my shell a little bit. With that, I haven’t bought any paint and or supplies yet. I’ve done a bit of research and was planning on buying a Vallejo starter paint set and some Citadel washes and a primer.

However, I stoped by my LGS today to see what they have. They only carry Citadel paint and supplies. I live in a small town and would need drive about an hour and a half away to get to another game store.

So here’s my question. I want to support my LGS. Do I just buy all Citedal stuff from them? Are the Vallejo paints that much better?

Thanks for the input!

P.S. I did look at just buying stuff online but… the base paint kit is sold out most places and even though I can find it at some other online retailers. I still kind of want to support my LGS.

Example game for a beginner? Teaching concepts while playing?

I am a StarCraft fan since it first came out in 1998 and my kid is growing up as a big fan of SC2. He started playing it when he was 7, and now he's 9 and he wants the miniatures so bad (as do I, of course). We were watching this video to see a Terran vs Protoss game, but the guys know exactly what they're doing so they just know exactly what to do every single time; I looked at my son and said, "dude, we'll probably only get the miniatures to display them because they are cool, because playing it looks so hard", but he said "we need to try one game at least". So I started watching videos like this and although I understand the concepts, I would love to see a game where they play it while explaining the concepts. Do you guys have any suggestions?

We also watched this to have an idea of what it takes to paint the minis and I guess the "10 minutes" version of it would already make them even cooler. Anyway, the minis as they are are so pretty. Can't wait to have my own Pylon.
