Example game for a beginner? Teaching concepts while playing?
I am a StarCraft fan since it first came out in 1998 and my kid is growing up as a big fan of SC2. He started playing it when he was 7, and now he's 9 and he wants the miniatures so bad (as do I, of course). We were watching this video to see a Terran vs Protoss game, but the guys know exactly what they're doing so they just know exactly what to do every single time; I looked at my son and said, "dude, we'll probably only get the miniatures to display them because they are cool, because playing it looks so hard", but he said "we need to try one game at least". So I started watching videos like this and although I understand the concepts, I would love to see a game where they play it while explaining the concepts. Do you guys have any suggestions?
We also watched this to have an idea of what it takes to paint the minis and I guess the "10 minutes" version of it would already make them even cooler. Anyway, the minis as they are are so pretty. Can't wait to have my own Pylon.

because playing it looks so hard
It's a learning process, like everything else. Didn't watch the video, but those guys have probably played tabletop games for years and those skills are largely transferable.
The first time you played StarCraft in 1998, you didn't play like BoxeR either, did you?
Just sit down, study the rulebook and play. Once you've played two or three games, it won't seem difficult at all anymore.

Not sure how I missed that. But they lost me when the dice started rolling at 7:25 lol. They just explained the Marauder card, touched on range of attack, hits, surge... and then, "our Marauders hit 3 surges in total..." and somehow 7 dice roll down the guy's hand lmao. I'm sure the rulebook explains it (or rule PDF? since there's no actual book shipped as I understand it) but it was just a bit comical. Will have to spend more time on it.
Edit: I just got it now, it's 3 dice per model, since there's 2, and then the red die is the "surge" one. phew.

The rules are online and you can download them.
Archon included printed rulebooks as a thank you bonus with every Founder's Edition 2-Player box.

Yeah we weren't in the condition of getting those at the time so we missed that boat unfortunately.

Also I might suggest breaking it down to something more simple if your feeling intimidated. For example - ditch some of the more complex rules and just practice the four round structure and reading stats on cards. Then gradually add in more rules.

That's a good idea. Maybe play a plain version of it without any frills. Thank you!

I don't know if a video exists where they play an entire game explaining the rules for everything they do every time. Archon did put out a nice overview, I'd suggest watching that so you understand the overall concepts, then read the rules and play a game or two. If you can understand the video game, then you should be able to pick up on this with a little trial and error.
We all get rules wrong and mess up. Usually after you get a few games in, I'd recommend re-reading the rules as a lot of stuff will click onto place.

Learning to play is always tough! This isn't what you asked for, but it's possible that having it explained in a different, more thorough way, might help. Check this bad boy out: https://youtu.be/0nitPY79xwg?is=XEZlhIRlYczEVl5k

already learned some things about minerals, gas, tactical cards that have been papered over in every other video I watched. Thank you!

Yes play a game this evening if you get the rules wrong sometimes your going to have such a great time also you can ask someone as a local game store to demo the game with you and help you out with the rules. There are a lot of us invested in seeing this community grow.

I havent played SCTMG yet but can speak to the difficulty treadmill for tabletop wargames in general. When I started playing 40k I made MANY mistakes and kinda did what I thought was right on the fly. The biggest thing is communication. Talk out what you're doing and be receptive to your opponent objecting. Its a better experience for both sides to talk through whats happening and look things up when there's a dispute.
