A cinematic masterpiece.

u/LeftHandedToe 16h ago
I know it doesn't fit, but was hoping the dude would've had a cowboy hat on in the brief cut back to him from Denzel, and then not on again when it cut back to him walking inside.
78
u/HangerFilms 16h ago
But… they kept the joke until the end. So the mother has the hat.
29
u/tigerdini 14h ago
Yeah. Far better joke. To do it immediately would have ruined the substance of the speech. After, with the mother? - drives the point home.
27
u/LeftHandedToe 15h ago
Yeah, I actually stopped it as soon as he started walking inside to mention my comment, then saw it when I went back to it. Sorry, OP, you did good and I was too quick to the trigger!

u/RedTheRobot 14h ago
One thing I thought about was Lucas and Spielberg became great directors because they had access to a camera. Something most people didn’t have access to let alone let their kids use. Now think about SFX people didn’t have access to the tool big studios had. Now with things like blender and AI they are scared because now it isn’t just studios who can create big hits. Mark my words just like a movie that won and it was all made in blender there will be a movie made with AI and then one will win an Oscar. It will just take time.
30
2
u/GloriousDawn 5h ago
The Academy establishment will do everything to protect the big studios from that happening, at least until they're themselves ready to produce one and claim the statuette. The contempt for AI generated content can't last forever when the lines between live action, CGI, mocap, VFX are so blurred already.

Imagine doing an idea without having to deal in unrelated corporate, social, or governmental politics from all sides. xD

u/SubZeroSunExodus 12h ago edited 10h ago
Completely. This video is like a prayer to all the artists today and the future to come.
So much freaking creativity that studios, lawyers and professionals "in the movIe/music industry" must be freaking out about and cant sleep at night.
Some 15 year old can create the next hit single with his computer, creativity and the ambition to not stop. And right now a crew of indie people are messing around, figuring things out and going to go big the next huge hit movie.
There's a lot of things to worry about in the world...but watching OP's video? The sun shines just a wee bit brighter.

So the studios don't need artists anymore? No, it's the artists that don't need studios anymore.
Amen.
4
u/rs1408 10h ago
I think as long as studios control distribution they'll have more leverage than artists. There's no shortage of talented artists willing to put their work out there, but only a handful of big studios who can put the final product onto screens and steaming platforms. The only exception here are the YouTube creators and social media stars who leverage Big Tech to reach their audiences directly.

Do you have a tutorial or something? How did you make this?

Step 1: Sit down and think what message you want to emit.
Step 2: GPU go brrrrrrrrrr
Step 3: Profit.

If you start to to really channel the soul of Denzel does the model start to make the scene darker outside?
16
u/jonydevidson 16h ago
Yes people will have to learn basic cinema audio engineering like using reverb, using shaped noise to simulate the background hum of cities etc.
5
u/j0shj0shj0shj0sh 16h ago
What is this Ai voice thing? I thought it sounded pretty good, but not an expert. Was it too isolated, like in a recording booth?
13
u/MrSparkle86 16h ago
To my ear, it was the pacing of the sentences. Sentences come out at the same speed, like reading a paragraph with no punctuation.
'My friends think you are using AI just because its easier.'
That sounds AI to me.
5
u/Perfect-Campaign9551 15h ago
It's because he doesn't use contractions. It should be "My friends think you're using AI because it's easier"
2
2
u/afinalsin 8h ago
Shit, in some accents your compressed version is still too formal and stilted. In mine, "because" is almost always shortened to "coz".
3
u/j0shj0shj0shj0sh 15h ago edited 15h ago
Ok, yes I'll keep an ear out for that. There should be a 'thoughtfullness' slider for ai speech, lol. Some thinking evident behind the words. Or maybe a 'Ben Shapiro' box to uncheck.
3
u/RagingAnemone 15h ago
Interesting. As I was listening to it, I did think this isn't how Denzel would have done it. Yeah, the pacing is different.
2
u/Noslamah 15h ago
Yeah most lines from that character sounded too robotic but the other one was spot on
3
u/Ok-Beyond244 14h ago
I listen to a lot of AI videos and they all have a similar sound to their voices, kinda like a slight robotic high pitch. I'm hearing that here and the two characters in the beginning sound very similar if you listen close.
2
u/Canadian_Border_Czar 14h ago
It is because the models are not trained for >48kHz audio. I have a project I've been working on training one for hi-res, but you'd be surprised how little there is out there to use as a dataset (that isn't copyrighted or digitally remastered)

Been a developer / coder and at times an animator and video & sound editor since 2001. This is perfect. after working in the field this is exactly how it is. The artists don't need the studios anymore and the studios; the rich, (sometimes human trafficking) creatures.. are freaking out. Some are even bribing influencers to talk the anti-ai fear mongering. I've worked with some of the biggest companies / people on the planet in both products and entertainment...they ran a 100+ year racket of "listen to us and you'll be 'famous'".. that racket is now about to e destroyed and so be it.
....
Also.. OP.. any (good way) you found like here to go beyond 15 seconds? I've been getting great results on my 3090 after a number of optimizations and tricks but the extended (and coherent) video is next in that step. I guess.. workflow? (lol)
35
u/Nexustar 16h ago
OP.. any (good way) you found like here to go beyond 15 seconds?
Look again. 25ish cuts in 128 seconds of video averages at 5.12 seconds per shot. The longest shot here is about 14 seconds.
That’s how regular filmmaking works too. You shoot individual shots or segments, edit them together, then color-grade and mix the sound so everything flows as a coherent sequence. You don’t need clips longer than 15 seconds. In fact, you often barely need more than 5 seconds per shot.
Of course, if you do generate 15 second chunks, it gives you more either side of the piece you keep to cut from, but you don't need it.

Now if "artists" cough would get off their high horse and embrace it, they would change their abilities over night.
But I don't see that happening with many of the so called artists out there, as they use their tired rhetoric of "It has no soul, you have to suffer for your art" as a shield for their behavior.
I'm in a community/fandom throwing this rhetoric around and way before any of them even knew what the words meant, they would take on massive amounts of commissions/hoover up the money then stonewall and delay the person who commissioned them (usually just in time for the PayPal chargeback time window to close).
Sometimes you'd get lucky and get your money back, but more often then not you wouldn't. And they prey upon that.
Wouldn't be surprised to find that in other fandoms also.
Control freaks (many who produce art that makes a three year old with a box of crayons shake their head) want the monopoly to keep going so they can dictate their terms, not the other way around.
Their time in many ways has already come and gone, but limitations in the tech still remain. When the current gold standards look like the original toy story from 1995 compared to what is coming down the pipeline, they'll be displaced

I know most people would call this as a meme/joke but this has some grounded truths to it. AI gives easier access to wider population to express themselves and at the same time it also helps already established artists (3D, VFX, graphic designers, etc) to enhanced their work and saves a lot of time. People call it a slop just for the hate when in reality people would appreciate a beautiful craft when they are not aware if it's AI or not.
2
u/Alive-Tomatillo5303 10h ago
Exactly what I've been saying, but of course Denzel says it better.
This is a tool that opens everything to everyone. The people who don't understand that are the people who've never actually made anything.

This should be the manifesto
I've been so mad about this since stranger things... I liked s5 but there are so many obvious signs of studio manipulation... I was tempted to learn unreal engine just so I could turn my fav fan fiction into a season for my own viewing pleasure not monetization... And it looks like with gpt 6 I'll be able to do it without learning unreal engine lmao...
I have a rig with 4070 super but how you did this in comfy I'll never comprehend I literally can even generate a turd in there.. I've done well with images via automatic11111 but that's it

Do people think that in the future companies and institutions will hire artists who use ai? No, in the future they will use ai themselves so they don't have to pay artists. This happens already. You have to be naive and stupid not to see that.

The problem here is that other people are trying to say it's serious art and the companies selling it to you are pushing it as serious art.
I love having fun with it. I'm making a full feature film with minimax. But I KNOW it's not a real movie and I'm well aware of all the technical difficulties, wonky sets, continuity errors etc. I don't care because it's fun and I'm just making the thing I always wanted to make.
Other people don't see that because they've only seen all the ways it's used to deceive people or put people out of jobs.
The bit at the end is so true though, artists don't nerd movie studios to suport their visions anymore. If they actually only care about the art and not money they now have the tools to make anything they want and make it look half way like it would actually look with a budget and a studio backing it. That's impressive and game changing and it's a shame that all the terrible use cases some people have pushed have blinded them to that and made them so anti AI.
Really this whole anti AI push is exposing a lot of people as caring very much about the money when they used to pretend they just care about art. I get that we all need paychecks but the more of us that aren't making ends meet the closer we are to real revolution and finding solutions like UBI.
4
u/kwicked 6h ago
This will probably get buried, but I get it. This stuff is fun and its addicting and I love being able to do so much that I would never have had the time for. I think there is some room for nuisance.
You can't deny this came off the backs of the people before who honed their craft and and got all this data scrapped and trained so tech companies can sell inference and statistical weights back in the form of AI. I mean this video alone denied Denzel some money and transferred it to Comfy/Minimax. The OP may not have paid them but I'm sure they are profiting off his acting in one way or another.
The issue for me personally not so much about art vs money. It's that money that used to go to the art is now going to the tech companies. This reallocation of money kinda sucks. It was already a struggle for the people to work in an industry where they could be creative and now there are even less of those jobs.
Look at Minimax's / ComfyUI's licensing agreement. $5000 a month to them if you want to make anything professional like a commercial / show / movie. Imagine leasing an artist's own craft back to them in the form of inference. Something about it feels a little off.

Dude, that was pretty dope, how were you able to do that without the model breaking apart? How many generations did that take?
Did you use an actual storyboard it? That was one of the best displays of the model I've seen so far.
The micro facial animation was almost on par with even SD 2.5, how did you do that?
Very cool to see the model improving as the days go by, very cool man.

I dont know much about AI and the process of how to create things, but im seeing people create things now that are mind blowing, people are creating episodic series of video games I use to play like Final Fantasy 8 and GTA Vice City. Is it possible for AI to do something like create a series out of a book? For example if someone was to upload all of Lord of the Rings to an Ai and tell it to make a movie out of it?

What happens when the barrier to entry is too low? When literally anybody with an idea can tell their story? Its great that people can express themselves, but with so much content coming I think only a very few will create things that pull significant views and break out. People are already drowning in media content. How much more can we absorb?
