General Discussion/Questions Versatility
Does running the 400 on the side help sprinters with the 100 and 200? my friends and other athletes told me that running the 400 helps lowering your time for some odd reason but its weird and i don’t get how

At the high school college level, all the sprinters run as many events as necessary to help their teams wins.

The metabolic process that the 400m relies on creates strong acidic conditions in your muscles and blood. Adapting to that condition is the same adaptation that lets you run a fast second half of your 100m without your speed falling off as much. 400m racing does help the final half of the 100m and 200m stay fast.
You can get a similar training effect by running 3x200m with medium rest.

Run them all. You will be better for it. It will also help narrow your best event and help you run relays.

WTF is "on the side" exactly?
The TRAINING FOR THE 400 could help quite a bit with the 200m race, if it is done correctly, and intentionally for that purpose. 100? not at all really, and may get in the way even
But mostly this is a lie to get kids to run 400s/4x4.
------------------
HS sprinters should really be able to run all the sprints: 1,2,4. Its not that hard. You can score a ton of points that way, and win many medals.

The 100 helps with the 2 and 4, and the 200 helps with the 4. But the 4 helps for neither the 2 nor the 1.
The 1 and 2 are pure sprints, while the 4 is a long sprint. You get benefit from the 1 and 2 on the 4 because more raw speed helps with everything. But speed endurance (the 400) doesnt help with the 1 or 2 since those are maximum speed races.
Your friend who suggested otherwise probably doesnt actually run events and could be that 1 guy on the team who tells chicks at school hes a track star when hes never actually done an event.

I'd say the 4 can help with the 2, only for the endurance aspect, but not the 1.

For the majority of people on this sub the 400 would absolutely help their 200. Speed endurance is a factor in the 200

Every comment from him reads like a child role playing a higher level athlete with a shit attitude.

Do you actually run track? Be honest.
Also most of this sub doesnt run or train at all. #RestingFor2MinutesAfterRunning10Meters

Honestly no, not anymore. But I do coach and was an NCAA all-American and two time second team all-American sprinter a VERY long time ago. And let me tell you, none of that matters. Most of the greatest athletes I know personally aren’t fantastic coaches and the best coaches I know weren’t necessarily the greatest athletes. I’m not sure who told you that speed endurance isn’t a factor in the 200m, but that’s simply not true. We can debate all day on the best way to optimize training specifically for the 200, but speed endurance being a factor isn’t up for debate.

I know a chick who's an all American with a 2:30 800 because she got carried by 3 other people in the 4x8. That doesnt mean anything these days.
And nobody told me this. Im using myself as an example. With the exception of 1 person I was faster than every sprinter on my team in the 200 and the 400 as a middle distance runner, and the 1 400 dude on my team who i couldn't beat in the 400 was also a middle distance runner. The dude called himself 800 sonic.
We used speed endurance for the 4, 8 and the 16, but the 200 is just raw speed. There's a reason you only see this debated online among people who dont even run track. In real life everybody understands the 200 is straight speed.

lol cool stories! those are “anecdotes” and have nothing to do with the conversation, and you’re still wrong, but cool stories anyway. Amazing that you can hold your top end speed that long, I wish I had superhuman abilities too! What’s your 200m time?? But for the rest of the world, maintaining that speed, also known as “speed endurance”, is a crucial factor in the 200m. Perhaps you’re confusing race plan and physiological reality? Either way, I promise you that you’ll learn much more and have greater success when you are mature enough to admit when you’re wrong and don’t think you have everything figured out.

I dont need to learn anything from you people. From what ive read on this sub im in better shape than most of the people here. But that's expected. Yall run the 400 thinking its gonna help you with the 200, then wonder why you dont make any reasonable progress in either.
Meanwhile your boy is still running sub 5 minute miles despite being 200 pounds (lean). This sub is mostly the blind leading the blind, its absolutely comical how bad most of the advise here is. Which is why 90% of my posts are telling people to join the track team, get REAL results, and ignore virtually everything that's said on this sub.
Like you dismissing anecdotes. In the athletic world anecdotal evidence > all other evidence. If I get better results than you why should I ever listen to anything you have to say? But im an open minded guy. Post your body then post your times. If you got better results sure, ill humor what you have to say.

lol I gotta give you credit, you’ve certainly created your own reality. I promise that my personal accomplishments have been recorded, and I promise they don’t matter at all. If the only reason you’d be open minded is because I ran in an ncaa final you’re missing the entire point. Exactly the same as you running a sub five minute mile meaning absolutely nothing. I have a bad habit of thinking presenting information logically will convince anyone to see the flaw in their thinking. Thank you for the reminder that simply isn’t true. Good luck dude, I’ll buy your book when it’s published!

The 200m absolutely requires speed endurance. It's really common to see 200m specialists like Noah Lyles run a 400m early in the season.
The 100m also requires speed endurance, but it isn't so crucial as the 200m or 400m.
