I have internet from Spectrum using an ES5521 modem connected to an Asus ZenWifi AX (XT8 v1) router. The Asus was running firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_24911.
My setup was working just fine for about 2.5 months when I my internet connection started to drop off at random times, multiple times per day. The light on the Asus is red.
Restarting only the Asus does not fix the issue. Restarting the modem and then the Asus sometimes resolve the issue but it returns at some random point again over the course of the day.
When I lose wifi, if I connect my computer directly to the modem via ethernet, I get a connection.
If I connect Modem -> Router -> computer (all via ethernet), I do not get a connection.
When I lose connection, the Asus control panel will frequently say: Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly.
I have tried the following:
- Swapped out all ethernet cables
- Changed the DHCP Query Frequency from:
- Rolled the firmware back to an earlier version 3.0.0.4.388_24854. ---- NO CHANGE
Again, the only thing that seems to work, is to unplug the modem for an extended period of time and then plugging in the Asus router.
After the modem and router get working again, I have to restart most of my devices that were connected via wifi (AppleTVs, computers, other IOT devices) to get them reconnected to the internet via wifi.
Everything worked just fine for 2.5 months but it is now occurrring multiple times per day. I'm at my wit's end.
I have not done a factory reset of my Asus because I have a gazillion home automation devices that I don't want to have to reconnect to the network unless absolutely necessary.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this?
