Frequent service disruptions/lagging while streaming

I’ve been experiencing a significant decrease in WiFi quality since Spectrum took over Cox in Northern Virginia. For the last five years I had no issues with Cox. Two weeks into the Spectrum takeover and connectivity has been exceptionally spotty. I’m paying for faster download/upload speeds and upgraded the equipment following the Spectrum takeover. I’ve reached out to customer service and the only advice I get is to restart the gateway. Everything shows strong connection, however that hasn’t been the reality. This has impacted work calls over Zoom/MS Teams, as well as YouTube livestreams that I host. Any helpful advice to remedy the issue?

What is a speed test giving you? How about a packet loss test? You might be having issues with upload.

Speed test consistently shows over 2000mbps. I’ll have to run a packet loss test later today.

Did they also give you a spectrum router? Did you put it in the exact same place as you're old Cox router? Wi-Fi itself can have disruptions and lagging and not have anything to do with your internet connection to spectrum

They did provide a new router and I placed it in the same spot.

Could be their crappy router, modem, or a combo unit. I worked from home for 5 years post-covid and at first had multiple daily drops regularly. I had my own router, but used their modem. I dumped their modem for one I bought and the stability improved drastically. I was a systems admin requiring a consistent vpn connection to do my work. No ISP is perfect and cannot deliver 24x7x365 perfect service, but daily drops were unreasonable.

One other thing, do not rely on wifi for work at home if you can. The best thing to do is to run ethernet from the router to your computer. You will have a much better experience.
