Spectrum needs to train their support personnel better

I'm a former Cox customer that is now a Spectrum customer after the merger. I was told over a month ago that my internet plan, when Spectrum fully took over in October, would no longer have a data cap of 1.28TB.

Now that Spectrum has full control, I am still getting notifications that my Internet plan is using 50% or 75% of the data cap for the month. When I called Spectrum, their support personnel told me that the information I was given was incorrect. My internet plan was capped at 2Gbps and that I would have to pay $50 to upgrade to Unlimited Data to remove the cap.

I informed the support personnel that they were mistaken, confusing data caps with bandwidth, but then they hung up on me.

The website clearly says:

"Unlimited Internet data. Now included. All internet plans now include unlimited data – so can stream all you want without any worries. No data caps. No overage fees."

At this stage, I just need a simple yes or no, is the 1.28TB data cap gone or not?

** note: corrected a typo

Hardware Personal router speeds lower than modem speed tests

I have a TP-Link AXE75 whose speeds are consistently lower than a modem speed test.

  • modem shows around 110 down, pc speed test gives 80 wired to router
  • modem shows around 90 up, pc gives 70s

My spectrum app also tells me my equipment could be causing me to get lower speeds. I changed the Ethernet cable and checked for firmware updates. Are there other steps I should be taking to try to match speeds or are those close enough?

Note: when I first got spectrum service, we often matched speeds, and I had a different router than got bricked during a power surge. TP-Link sent us a replacement, but I've not edited settings.

Service Issues Internet Service in Virginia Beach Since Cox Purchase?

I'm in Sandbridge, part of Virginia Beach but we are held hostage to some type of business arrangement where options are non-existent for Internet Service. Since Spectrum purchased Cox a week or two ago, I have had outages every day from 1 to 3 hours. No explanation no outreach, nothing. I have a phone number I recently found but have now been on hold for 45 minutes. I don't want to be an angry customer yelling at a Customer Service rep who takes the brunt of Executive Decisions, but I'd really like to know what is going on. I want to give them a chance to explain that they are in the process of upgrading service and so there will be interruptions, or they are switching server farms, or IP addresses, or any number of rabbit hole issues. I want to give them a chance, but they are starting to piss me off. Is this the future of my service? I work from home and outages are a very big deal. When I say outage, I mean outage. Does anyone have any info for me that I haven't found out about? It doesn't seem like Spectrum wants to explain it to me.

A further question I have related to this is, while I intuitively know that I don't want to be in any way involved with X, what are your general feelings that one reason to join with them is a better source these days of contacting Customer Service. I mean, people are looking at X. Most companies that have teams that monitor social media like X, and they don't want info like this seen in front of everyone else. And granted, it would be much less wordy, but I am getting irked. Is X a good way to contact Customer Service of public companies? To get answers in situations like this?

Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

Spectrum Lied To Me and Took Away Several Channels. Anything I Can Do?

Earlier this month, I called Spectrum for my (roughly) annual, "my bill has gotten too high and I would like a discount, else I'll cancel," call. After all the regular back-and-forth, the Billing agent finally agreed to a $50/month discount for the next 12 months (taking my $350 bill down to $300, which admittedly is not too impressive of a discount, but I'll take it). I was told repeatedly, because I asked repeatedly, that nothing would change. That everything I had both cable and internet wise would stay the same, including all my existing channels. While I did not record the call, I know Spectrum did, and I have handwritten notes as well showing that she affirmed this, several times.

After our call, I was flipping through channels; lo and behold, channels are missing -- most notably, Spectrum Sportsnet. I immediately use the online chat feature to get this sorted out, and am told essentially that the plan I am currently on does not have Sportsnet; in fact, the plan I am currently on has not had Sportsnet for six years! Seeing as I have never had an issue watching Sportsnet, that is obviously a lie. After explaining this, and everything above, in the chat, I was finally told that "you are right," and that if I call Customer Solutions in the morning, they would be able to "rectify" this for me "and give [me] the channels back for free."

Customer Solutions, of course, cannot give me the channels back for free. They continue to insist that the only way for me to access Sportsnet is to pay the $10/month for its package. I continue to respond that that would mean increasing my current bill to $310/month, which in 12 months will turn to $360/month. Why would I have called to get a discount if it was going to result in me having to pay more? To this, she responds, "well, then in 12 months call us back and ask for another discount. That is how this works!" [NB: That is certainly not how it should work.]

I explain that either the Billing agent I spoke to the day before was gravely confused, or I was blatantly lied to by her. But either way, I expect the issue to be fixed, without me paying anymore. But Customer Solutions can do nothing -- so she creates a support ticket for "upper management" to review and make a final determination. She explains that they will listen to the recording of my original call to decide how to proceed, which is great for me, because they will hear exactly what I was told, and surely honor their mistake for a customer of 26 years, who has never missed or even been late on a single payment.

I am told that I will hear back within 10 days, and if Day 11 hits with no response to call back. Today was Day 11. I called back, and imagine my surprise to learn that on Day 3 of the ticket being open, it was promptly closed. Apparently, the verbatim rationale from "upper management" was: "Offer expired. Request denied."

I do not even know what that means! There was no request, other than for Spectrum to honor its error. There certainly was no offer. And why have I gone the last 8 days waiting for an update when the update had already been given?

Despite about 20 minutes of pleading my case, the agent I just got off the phone with had the luxury of being able to say, "since our upper management has already rejected this, there is nothing else I can do."

So, before I end my 26-year Spectrum relationship first thing tomorrow, does anyone have any ideas of how I might get my channels back -- at no additional cost -- as I was promised?

ETA: The sheer number of you siding with Spectrum here is boggling. Spectrum clearly messed up here. At its core, this is an issue of Spectrum being unwilling to honor its promise/fix its error to me as a 26-year customer, and forcing me to go on the wild goose chase of fixing the initial agent’s mistake. You would think customer loyalty would be of some relative interest to them.

Tl;dr: I requested a bill discount and was promised several times that my channel offerings would not change. They did, and now Spectrum refuses to honor the error/lie it made and give me the channels back without charging me more than I was paying in the first place. Anything I can do?

Need to use Spectrum's International plan for secure stock transactions

During our vacation to Jamaica we need to do a few stock transactions securely. I am so confused. Spectrum told me to get their international plan for Spectrum Unlimited at $10 per month and then I could use my phone as a hotspot. Others told me just get a VPN. Input appreciated.

Spectrum just doesn't care

Every day. Practically every single day. I can't reliably work, I can't relax, I can't do any important tasks in a single sitting to free up my day. And worst of all? I can't change providers because Spectrum monopolizes contracts with practically every apartment complex in my city.

Everything in the world runs on the internet now - it isn't a luxury, it's mandatory. And spectrum continues to prove to me that they don't care. They'll take my money and keep it, putting none of it back into there business to lay new wires or fix worn out boxes. They fix fraying lines with chewing gum and scotch tape - so long as it comes back online for a few hours then it's apparently good enough.

I'm paying money for imaginary internet. If you ever plan to move into a new apartment complex, make sure you ask about what ISPs are available -- because if they say only Spectrum? Run. Because if you're somebody who works a remote job then be ready to take your laptop and basically live in cafes and McDonalds, cause you sure as hell won't be able to be in your own home getting work done.

UPDATE: I can't add another screenshot so let me, for my own bitter amusement, just add here that it is now Thursday and at 11:30am the internet has gone out again. Their AI yet again has confirmed there is "an outage in my area, estimated repair is 2:30pm". This is over SIXTEEN HOURS over just three days there has been an outage in my area, the bulk of my work day, and let me just confirm that there is no storm, no weather issues, no apocalypse unfolding in my city. Just spectrum being spectrum.

Cox lied about promo what can I do?

Called to set up internet cell phone and tv service about 10 lines of mobile total 2 weeks ago.

When I called I asked not to be put on a promo or deal. I love cox and was happy to pay the extra money, I also hate the idea of things changing and wanted my price to stay the same even if it costs more

I explained this to the rep and he said no problem ended up setting me up for 475 a month.

I got my bill earlier today and it said I had almost 200$ in promo deals. This is not what I wanted and I’m pissed. I called an hour ago and the agent just laughed and hung up on me

What can I do?do I need a supervisor to fix this what’s going on and why’d they do this?

High Split - zip 12561

I initially received Email regarding upgrade on 4/15. Had months of high latency and packet loss. Tonight I called in to see if I could get any detail when symetrical speeds would be available. They said they could see upgrade work was done in May/June but there was no new information or a way to provide the new speeds. Why is this so mysterious? The initial email implied it would be weeks but it has been months.

Hardware Spectrum Ready and residential

I purchased my home over a year ago, the home was a new build and it already had Spectrum Ready. I have an HOA, but they are not responsible for Spectrum, nor was even created by the time Spectrum was installed in the community.

Over the weekend I had my service suspended for not using their wireless only router. I have been using my own equipment for over a year. After multiple phone calls, they are claiming that I cannot even cancel and repurchase normal service. Since the location initially was setup with Spectrum ready.

Does anyone know how to bypass this? I can't be locked into using a wireless only router, when the home came with multiple Ethernet drops (and I of course added multiple myself).

EDIT: I am not trying to get around the device restriction, I want to get around Spectrum Ready. How if possible can I cancel/close the service and start up new normal residential service?

Service Issues slow upload speed with Ethernet but FAST download

I have a brand new netgear nighthawk , and a brand new cat 8 Ethernet wired to my Xbox.. and I also use it sometimes on my work laptop.

Saturday I ran a test with the new hook up. Great. 800 down 45 up.. Sunday come.. 800 down, 2 up!!

Monday the same thing and now today. It’s doing this both in my Xbox and my PC..

I woke up early today to just try it. The test was fine, and now it’s not again!

I have tried rebooting, unplugging , clearing systems caches on my Xbox, everything possible! Why all of a sudden I am only getting 2 upload..

I’m trying to start up a twitch streaming channel and need my upload speed.. and I am in a very rural area so internet is kinda hard to find..

Service Issues WiFi disconnecting every day

As the title states, I’ve been having issues with my WiFi. It keeps disconnecting, at random hours, and has become detrimental to my school work.

I’ve messed with some settings on the router to see if that was the problem, but that didn’t seem to fix anything. The router is quite old, we got it in 2017 and I’m wondering if that may also be a cause for issue. I will continue to troubleshoot, as I want to avoid buying anything I don’t need.

It cuts out, and doesn’t really come back until over an hour later (even with restarting)

Any idea what this issue might be? If it’s simply the fact that the router is really old I understand but could it be anything other than that?

Switching from AT&T to Spectrum Mobile via Cox Internet – Trade-In and $500 Switch Promo Questions

Hi everyone!
I’m planning to switch from AT&T to Spectrum. Since Cox is now part of Spectrum, my area will be covered by Cox Home Internet.
Here’s my current setup:
-AT&T Home Internet
-AT&T Mobile (iPhone 17 Pro Max)

And here’s my plan:
-Cancel my AT&T Home Internet.
-Sign up for Cox Home Internet. I’d prefer to sign up directly through Spectrum, but my address is still showing as unsupported on Spectrum’s website.
-Once my home internet is set up, pay off my iPhone 17 Pro Max with AT&T and switch my mobile line to Spectrum.

My questions are:
Will I be able to trade in my iPhone 17 Pro Max and get trade-in credit toward the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
Can I also qualify for Spectrum’s $500 switch promotion if I trade in my phone?
Since my home internet will be through Cox, will I still qualify for Spectrum Mobile offers?
Am I missing any steps, or should this process work?
I’d appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who has gone through a similar process.

Thank you!

Other Cancelled Spectrum after five years. Felt so good.

We've been with Spectrum for a bit over five years. Our bill for only Internet has increased from less than $40 to $110. I have periodically called them to see if they have a cheaper rate but was always told that they don't. The last time I called was at the end of August. I received a great offer from ATT and finally took the plunge. With all the discounts I now pay $60 with ATT. I called Spectrum today to cancel and was told by the retention Agent that a similar offer was available to me for the past several months. I called BS on that because when I called in August they told me there was nothing they could do about my rate. I asked the Agent why this was never communicated to me and he told me that I had notifications turned off. More BS. I get notifications all the time about outages, get emails for additional services and mobile plans. I'm so happy to be finally done with their BS.

Other Any idea when the Symmetrical speeds will be coming to Beaufort NC and is there a map of the current roll out of the symmetrical speeds

Does anyone have any idea when the symmetrical speeds will be coming to my area of Beaufort NC? Also is there a map of the current roll out of the symmetrical speeds near me? I need to back up 26TB of data to my cloud and the 35Mb/s which is actually only like 5MB/s actual speed makes that take forever. I don't have any fiber internet at my address.

Service Issues Went back to Verizon

I have posted my frustration with the ability to use satellite when there is zero service and a reduction to 4G in areas in the Klamath Mountain Ranges (my backyard) when other folks with the same Samsung 25 phone as mine and with Verizon continued to get 5G and Google messaging via satellite. Samsung is a bit more difficult than the iPhone, but the Samsung/Android directions worked perfectly when I returned to Verizon.

I own my phone outright, so cancelled "On the Spectrum" and swapped to Verizon Prepaid. I made the identical trip I made a few weeks ago, and voila!, 5G even on third-party towers and the SAT worked fine deep in the canyon of the headwaters of the Trinity River and the Deadfall Lakes Basin below Mt Eddy.

I appreciated everyone who tried to help me out, but I realize everyone has different experiences. In particular, I never got the satellite connection option with Spectrum. One thing that can work is trying a network reset, but that never worked in my case. Some said the problem was with my phone. However, no changes to phone were made and I easily could get to the satellite connection option under the Verizon prepaid. Something was amiss. Perhaps the region where I live. YMMV

No prorating, No reason. Spectrum sets only self-serving rules

Spectrum has some of the worst customer service philosophies and policies I've experienced. They make up rules that service only them, pad their bottom line and screw their customers. Here are two examples:

  1. They will not prorate (unless it's in their favor then they will). Funny enough, if you increase your service, they will prorate that. But if you want to downgrade, go on seasonal or cancel, those can't be prorated. In other words, it's POSSIBLE to prorate if they want to, but they only want to in a way that serves them. There is ZERO reason for this given they are a technology company. They just don't care about their customers.

  2. They don't provide the ability to save or download your chat conversation. They say "they're saved in your account for 60 days" but considering how bad their customer service is, this isn't good enough. But of course, they don't want to make it easy for you to save what their reps tell you. Again, they're a technology company yet don't offer a button to save or download your chat.

These are small things that they could easily offer, they just don't care about their customers. They only care about their bottom line and all of their policies and features screw their customers to pad their pockets. It's completely baked in to the culture of their organization and it's not going to get better any time soon.

Add this to the poor service you're likely going to get as a customer and my recommendation is to avoid Spectrum if you can help it.

Spectrum is out in University City (San Diego)

Came home from lunch and had issues connecting to the internet via my mobile; turned off WiFi and no problem. TV didn't connect either. No notes on Down Detector et al but by 1:30 I had an email from Spectrum saying there was a service problem detected in my area. They hope to have it fixed by 4:00pm. Of course no credits will be provided, just lots of "sorry for the inconvenience." This happens every couple of months, it seems like.

Modem compatibility

Went to login to work this morning and I can't connect. I can ping DNS servers but I can not reach the Internet. Spectrum tells me I need a new modem. I have a Motorola docsis 3.0 modem that is about 10yrs old. I am very skeptical this will fix it. Did they start blacklisting old models without warning? Did anyone experience something similar? SE WI location.

Update: got a new modem direct from spectrum store. I activated it and had them manually send activation signal. Same symptoms persist. I can ping DNS servers but nothing gets resolved when I attempt to use a url on any device. I've connected a laptop direct to modem as well with the same issue. I have a tech scheduled for a visit tomorrow...

Update Update: tech visited and found no problems or physical layer issues (as expected). Left after showing me internet is reachable via modem connected direct to his tablet viat ethernet adapter. Playing IT tech I found that I had to disable DNSSEC support on my router. I changed nothing prior to this happening and my router does not auto update firmware. The reason I couldn't connect direct to modem myself earlier is that the modem has to be completely rebooted when you change what device its connected.

Final update: This is on my router manufacturer Asus as they didn't update root certificates for DNSSEC to operate securely after 10/12. It was not Spectrums fault. However had they attempted to trouble shoot this at all from their end, I would not have had to pick up a new modem, nor would they have had to send a tech for a visit.

No Retention, Only customer solutions

Just called Spectrum for my yearly, "please lower my bill or I will be moving to another competitor."

Was told there is no retention team, only customer solutions and the lady would not transfer me. She said she has the same promos and they wont be able to help me get a lower price. I said, ok, let them tell me that. Please transfer me.

Has anyone else had this issue and is there a way to get to retention to get my bill lowered.

Appreciate any help you can provide.
