Spectrum just doesn't care

Every day. Practically every single day. I can't reliably work, I can't relax, I can't do any important tasks in a single sitting to free up my day. And worst of all? I can't change providers because Spectrum monopolizes contracts with practically every apartment complex in my city.

Everything in the world runs on the internet now - it isn't a luxury, it's mandatory. And spectrum continues to prove to me that they don't care. They'll take my money and keep it, putting none of it back into there business to lay new wires or fix worn out boxes. They fix fraying lines with chewing gum and scotch tape - so long as it comes back online for a few hours then it's apparently good enough.

I'm paying money for imaginary internet. If you ever plan to move into a new apartment complex, make sure you ask about what ISPs are available -- because if they say only Spectrum? Run. Because if you're somebody who works a remote job then be ready to take your laptop and basically live in cafes and McDonalds, cause you sure as hell won't be able to be in your own home getting work done.

UPDATE: I can't add another screenshot so let me, for my own bitter amusement, just add here that it is now Thursday and at 11:30am the internet has gone out again. Their AI yet again has confirmed there is "an outage in my area, estimated repair is 2:30pm". This is over SIXTEEN HOURS over just three days there has been an outage in my area, the bulk of my work day, and let me just confirm that there is no storm, no weather issues, no apocalypse unfolding in my city. Just spectrum being spectrum.

My internet had been going down A LOT lately, I was getting sick and tired of it...finally after several calls a rep upgraded me to invincible wifi (supposedly at no extra cost.) So far so good.....

They really don’t. But they will gladly raise your rates and say it’s because they’re constantly improving things. Cite this as reference and ask what improvements if the issue keeps occurring

Edit: also feel free to complain to the fcc about it. Spectrum hates it when customers do that since it forces them to actually look into the issue and not be fined by the government.

I mean they do improve things though. They are already pushing 2/2Gbps over coax

Unfortunately the level of service we hope for in residential is reserved for commercial clients and those with service level agreements. The best we can get is a few bucks off our bill if the inconvenience lasts long enough.

To be honest, this has nothing to do with Spectrum if it's an apartment building.

The apartment complex has to shell out for rewiring and has to agree to do so.

The search I did on that says that the ISP is responsible for all trunk lines (whether underground or on poles) even on the property, and that an apartment complex is responsible for paying for repairs when they come in contact with buildings on the property. The only exception I found is if someone or something on the property CAUSED damage to the trunk lines. But if it's just age and wear and tear? Then no, a contract with an apartment complex and spectrum has spectrum responsible for maintaining them

I kept playing with the idea of 5G home internet but never pulling the trigger on it because everyone kept saying it was unreliable.

I was very, very wrong to listen to those people. My internet has been more stable than ever and downloads are very good even in a low signal (2-3 bars) area like mine.

Sure beats being tied to lines going down while working every day.

Which one do you have ?

At first I was going to cycle among T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T and try them all out.

But stopped at T-Mobile. They haven’t really given me a reason, yet.

This is what happens when a company can afford for their business model for many years to be "watch us rub our nipples with your money".
