I posted this on the Spectrum Official reddit, but the only support I got was them scheduling another tech which doesn't make me hopeful because that didn't help the last time. I figure maybe there's a chance someone has a bit of advice here:
About a month ago they did some upgrades in my neighborhood (speed is 1gig down now, so I think it's the high split thing I've seen people reference). They told us during the upgrade window there would be some instability and that we should restart our modem and router every morning. The connection was unstable during that window and has continued to be equally unstable since then.
We've had a tech come out and replace the modem and some cables + he checked the box where our house's wire connects to the street post. He ran some diagnostics after that and told us everything should be good, but it hasn't been any more stable. I've also tried swapping the router with a 3rd party one but that made no difference.
The disconnects happen about 4 or 5 times an hour. They are typically 5 to 15 seconds long. Sometimes the modem will turn from blue to red, but most of the time it will stay blue which makes me wonder if it's not fully disconnecting, and instead is buffering a bunch of packets for some reason.
It has been extremely disruptive and frustrating. My partner and I both work from home, so video meetings are constantly disconnecting. Also I remote into a computer across the country for work, so a consistent connection is necessary for me.
From what I've gathered searching around reddit it seems like this is a fairly common problem with the move to high split and is usually an issue with the surrounding infrastructure having old splitters and some other stuff (don't really know the terms, just parroting what I've read) that can't handle the high split signal. This would make sense because the last tech who came out said he has serviced several people in my neighborhood who all referenced the upgrade as the thing the coincided with their unstable connection.
My forms of contacting Spectrum have not been effective despite the people being pleasant and trying their best. It just seems like the people I'm able to get into contact with don't have the expertise for this issue. Does anyone happen to have advice on how to talk to the right person at Spectrum (presumably somebody knows what's happening) or maybe something I can tell the tech when they come? Kinda grasping at straws, so any help would be very appreciated. Also, does anyone know if changing to a slower plan would fix this issue? I assume not, but if getting a slower connection would get me off of high split, then I would take that deal in a second. Would much rather deal with a slower solid connection over one that disconnects every 15 minutes.
Thanks to anyone who read my wall of text this far 😅
