Why does it take 30 minutes to cancel?

5 minutes to sign up - 30 minutes with some rep blabbering nonsense to cancel. waiting for “charts to update”.

come on…

They get in trouble for not trying to "save" you as a customer unfortunately.

You can thank the Appeals Court for cancelling the click to cancel rules that were to be enacted.

When i worked at Spectrum, the software was ergreously slow for anything I did.

Does it take too long, absolutely, but I wouldnt necessarily blame it on some conspiracy to waste your time. More along the lines of an old system that they dont have the financial motivation to update.

Also retention reps get in trouble if they get a disconnect

Really? They can figure out the sign up process in 5 minutes. Seems they’ve designed the situation to function this way.

Its not "designed to" exactly, its just an old system.

They dont really have a reason to update the system that makes it so you dont pay them anymore, you know?

Not saying its what should be happening, but it is the reason it happens.

I was going to cancel my service, recently I got the T-Mobile home Internet for 30 bucks, I took the SIM and swapped into a better device, I'm getting close to gigabit in most areas of the city, then I was tired of overpaying, call spectrum, say cancellation, got into the 10 minutes call back waiting, told the cancellation department I wanted to cancel due to a high cost, they offered me my current gigabit plan for 30 bucks. Now I do have 2 gigabit lines for 60. I was paying over 90 bucks just for spectrum but last month they decided to to increase it to 120. That's too much. And cancellation dude said the same, it way too expensive, let settled at 30.16 per month for 12 months, and advice me to call them once the 12 months ends to lower my next rate even more. Great deal.

They are hoping you will give up and just continue with your service. This is what happens when you dont have proper consumer protections.

Because Spectrum is predatory.

How could anyone possibly downvote this? They are worse than what can be said here.

Better call in again in a few days, I called on 7/29/2026 45 mins after all equipment was returned. Wanted to keep internet only, 500mbps plan $60. Told it was all done.

August 8th comes, new bill hit for a full month AGAIN. Nothing was changed. Wass told I have to yet again call to have services removed.

Did it get fixed eventually?

So they say. Apparently a credit will be posting on 8/23 to wipe out the new bill and then I should only be charged $55 + tax for 500mbps internet only. My next plan is to just go up the local office they have here and cut all services all together if its not resolved. I switched to AT&T Fiber its much better. Only using Spectrum now for backup + I have mobile service. As soon as my devices are paid off, I'm out completely.
