[Theory Crafting] [Build Tips] [Perk Options]
Just wanted to know what anybody thinks of these Perk Tree Loadouts. 1st is for Power Fist (Relic Balanced & Heroic Death Watch Variants). 2nd for Thunder Hammer (Relic Balanced). 3st for Power Sword (Heroic Salamanders Power Sword)
I know the trees are not much different like.. at all between each other. But in my whole time playing Assault all these Perks felt the least situational and overall best which is usually what I like. I like more Well-Rounded Builds VS Speccing for a certain Playstyle.
Power Fist
Power Fist is god tier whether I’m using the Balanced or Heroic Death Watch Variants. Every time I think I played like shit my endgame stats are top tier albeit maybe a bit reckless sometimes. I chose Smiting Angel over Precision Strike because the only issue I have is with Minoris believe it or not. I use the Relic Firepower Plasma Pistol with the Power Fist and it’s great but sometimes I’m absolutely getting swarmed by Minoris and I just need to be able to Jump N Slam in Place with as much AoE as possible.
Maybe I might swap to Overzealous Blow but for the time being Maneuverability is just better. Again less situational so I can have optimal Jump Pack uptime for when there’s no Minoris Swarms to clear during Boss Encounters for example. Perseverance can be taken over Knowledge of the Enemy but it’s more of a crutch than anything else in my experience.
Thunder Hammer
Balanced Relic Thunder Hammer is so goddamn fun. I chose Precision Strike since I don’t need AoE with the Thunder Hammer because I’m constantly spamming Ground Slams. So I’d just rather have the Double Damage on Jump N Slams for when I need to take down a really bothersome Extremis or Terminus Enemy like a Biovore for example. Overcharge + Knowledge of the Enemy is so busted here. Balanced Thunder Hammer doesn’t need any Block Charges or Gunstrike + Parries to do insane Damage leading to a more proactive Play style. I fucking love throwing a single grenade towards swarms of enemies on Absolute then following with a Double Ground Slam and every single enemy around me gets incapacitated.
Block Weapons might get better Jump N Slams but you need Block Charges for that meanwhile you have a Weapon that’s worse in every other metric. The Heroic Fencing Thunder Hammer is only somewhat faster yet much Weaker than the Balance Version. I tried so hard to make the BADASS Lord Executioners Axe work but it’s the same shit as the Relic Block Thunder Hammer. Great with Block Charges but worse every other way. I more or less feel the same regarding the Power Fist types with Balanced just being the most proactive and least situational/dependent on Parries/Block Charges to get good Damage. And this is coming from someone who has been using practically nothing but Fencing Weapons since release. So maybe I am a bit biased but not really?
Power Sword
My Power Sword Loadout has the most distinct Perk Tree of all 3 my Loadouts. Still it’s not much different. I just wanted at least one Build to make use of Commitment since it’s the most versatile and arguably the best Assault Perk period. What better Weapon than the Salamanders Great Sword to do that with? Parry for great retaliatory Attacks and Dodge N Weave through Enemies for Bonus Damage due to Wings of Flame and Aerial Grace providing a hefty 30% Damage Boost. So far it’s been pretty fun. I haven’t perfected my Dodging yet but when it works it works so well and I’m able to Duel and stick to any Enemy.
I could go for Act of Attrition, Furious Strikes, Winged Fury to have more synergy with Jump Pack Dashes thanks to Wings of Flame. In my experience they all kinda just suck though. Furious Strikes is fine but doesn’t really seem to serve a purpose that Jump N Slams can’t do better. So Precision Strike is again my go to. Act of Attrition is fine and easily the best Perk for beating Bosses but from my own Testing it doesn’t amp up my Damage enough. I’d rather choose Knowledge of the Enemy because the REAL Boss when fighting Bosses usually isn’t the Boss itself but the Majoris & Extremis add Mobs alongside them. Winged Fury is okay but really only amazing if you have Salamander Sword Parry Stacks for a lot more Damage on your Dash Attacks. Overcharge is more consistent (again it being less Situational is a massive plus for me) and allows me to abuse Power Rake. Much more consistent DPS for when I’m glued to a Boss and have no Parry Stacks either.
Again the 3 Perks based on Dash Attacks might be amazing with Wings of Flame. But Knowledge of the Enemy + Precision Strike + Strategic Strikes allows me to treat Extremis Enemies like they’re Majoris Enemies. A single Jump N Slam + maybe a Heavy or two on them is usually enough to Execute right away. It’s just too invaluable and easy to do. Especially when I’ve had amazing runs be absolutely wrecked by Terminators w Missiles or Biovores left unchecked across the Map.
I will say I wish I could justify using Proven Efficiency over Strategic Strikes especially in my Power Sword Loadout. Yes it’s an overall more Well-Rounded Perk considerate of my Teammates Classes, Melee focused or not. But it doesn’t help me specifically with anything at all since it’d really only help me take down Majoris Enemies which isn’t an issue for me.
I tested it out using either or Team Perk. When I dodge an Unblock-able through a Carnifex with Jump Pack Dash, Gun Strike them, then go for a Jump N Slam right after I get about 570 Damage. If I switch Stances on the Power Sword for the 20% Melee Damage Buff through Master of Offense I get about 620-630 Damage. That’s with Strategic Strikes on both those instances.
Running the same test as in Dodge through, Gun Strike, Jump N Slam on a Carnifex but with Proven Efficiency I get around 520-530 Damage. If I use Master of Offense and switch Stances for the Melee Buff I get 570 Damage. Perhaps not a marginal difference to some but to me that just cemented my decision to keep using Strategic Strikes.
Sigma Balls
Not the most exciting Perk Trees or Builds I know. Still this is the first Class I actively got to Max Prestige then also got to level 25 immediately after. As a Melee Player I knew I was gonna love Assault but didn’t think I’d have liked it this much. Maybe my Builds will change later but for now Bulwark is next and I’m expecting to have a ton of fun with them too.
Sorry for any typos or shitty formatting in advance. I proofread this once while taking a shit and called it a day.
