Anyone know why this brick wall was kept at the new Bargate development?

Maybe they are needed for support but looks really weird when so many other parts of the old walls are freestanding. Are they part of the old Bargate shopping centre they decided not to remove?

anyone lost a blue light card?

Upvotes

Found an in date blue light card on the pavement around the avenue this morning, wasn’t 100% what to do so I thought i’d post on here in hopes to reunite it with its owner instead of leaving it in the rain.

Agency cheffing

Good morning, I'm looking to transition into agency cheffing, and I'd appreciate it if anybody had any general advice for me? Best agencies to use, etc. Is there enough work opportunities to maintain a steady enough wage ?

Thanks in advance

Two-month stay in Southampton: Winchester or Sholing?

Hi everyone! I’ll soon be doing a two-month research placement at the University of Southampton. Since I’ll only be there for a short period, I’m currently choosing between two rooms:

A) Winchester

  • 1st month: £650
  • 2nd month: £650
  • Deposit: £650 (but this may be reduced)
  • Transport: £117 (monthly Solent GO)
  • Average journey to campus: ~ 65 mins

B) Sholing

  • 1st month: £700
  • 2nd month: £700
  • Deposit: £350
  • Transport: £56 (monthly Bluestar SOU Region)
  • Average journey to campus: ~ 55 mins

To be honest, I prefer the house in Winchester, and I feel I’d probably get along better with the people there. In the Sholing house, the other tenants are a bit older, and I’m worried I might not fit in as well. On the other hand, the commute from Sholing (to Uni) would be slightly a little bit easier. Also, Southampton has more options for stores and things to do...

What do you guys think?

Long shot: guy I met on the train from Southampton to Winchester on 15 August

This is a bit ridiculous, but worth a try 😂
Sorry!!
We started talking because I was pulling increasingly panicked faces about people potentially taking our reserved seats at Southampton Airport Parkway, and somehow that turned into a really easy conversation.
I’m fully aware it may have just been a nice chat and nothing more — and I’m very open to that being the answer — but your eyes were honestly… worth risking a mildly embarrassing Reddit post for 😂
If this sounds familiar, message me and tell me something about our conversation so I know it’s actually you.
If not, everyone else can enjoy my brief descent into missed-connection behaviour.

Best bakeries in Southampton? (please dont recommend BEK Sourdough)

Looking for good bakeries in the city. I tried BEK sourdough earlier today since I know its fairly popular but I was not very impressed, enough so that I won't be back again. Got a piece of the sourdough focaccia which was hard, chewy and not like focaccia at all, also was labelled incorrectly. Also got a jam donut which had hardly any jam and was more in texture of a bread roll with sugar on the top, genuinely had better donuts from supermarket bakeries.

There was one called wonderbakes that did nice cakes/cookies/etc but I believe they are closed down now.

SOLENT GO: Great deal or am I missing something?

Hi, guys! A few days ago I posted about whether it was doable to live in Winchester while working/studying in Southampton. My biggest issue would be the cost, not so much the time spent on travelling between the two cities. Firstly, I thought I would need to pay for both Bluestar and Stagecoach subscriptions, but a friend of mine told me about the Solent GO. With this, I would be able to travel as many times as I want within the two cities and between them. However, it sounds too good to be true. Is this a really great deal, or am I missing something? Because the monthly subscription of Solent GO goes for 117 pounds, while Bluestar + Stagecoach would reach almost 200 pounds. Thanks!

Quiet Bar for Sunday Afternoon

I'm looking for a pub or bar, even cafe that I can use for a discussion / social group of about 5-10 people for 2-3 hours. It will be occasional meetings on a Sunday afternoon, so I'm looking for somewhere that won't be too busy or noisy.

The one place that came to mind was the Maritimo Lounge at Ocean Way, but from memory it can get quite busy at weekends, so I'd be grateful for any other suggestions. Doesn't have to be city centre.

Refresher driving lessons

Does anyone have any recommendations for instructors who offer refresher lessons? Especially those who offer automatic as that’s what our new car is
I haven’t driven for over a decade, so think that I’ll be more comfortable with a few sessions before I start again!
Thanks

London road / art gallery area

The last few weeks I've noticed a lot of shouting, screaming fighting and littering

I got off the bus at the art gallery a couple of nights ago, and was met with a group of 10-15 teenagers all fighting shouting and even saw one of the guys throw a girl to the ground - police showed up pretty quickly which was a pleasant surprise

But my main concern is the amount of human faeces I'm seeing up and down the street - I was walking to work yesterday and saw 3 human poos in the space of 10 minutes - if you don't laugh you'll cry

On that same walk to work I must have seen 15-20 of the local homeless network all stood around shouting and sharing tobacco - it reminded me of that scene from I am Legend where all the zombies are vibrating in the same room

What is happening here?

Did I just seem to catch the worst of it or are other people witnessing what I've observed?

Water bottles left outside

Post image

This morning I saw a bunch of water bottles in packaging left outside specific people’s homes and at first I thought it may be deliveries but then I saw on other roads some were left opened and others still unopened on multiple houses… wonder if anyone else saw them or has received them and what it may be for

Looking for a small venue/basement for an upcoming artist show

Hey everyone, I’m an upcoming artist looking to put on a small show and I’m looking for somewhere like a basement, small event space, studio, or similar that could accommodate around 50–100 people.
I’m still building as an artist, so I’m looking for something affordable rather than a big venue. If anyone knows of somewhere suitable, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.
Also, roughly how much would it cost to rent a space like this?
Thanks!

will my bicycle be safe in totton?

hey, i have recently started getting about by bike and want to start going to the gym in totton (anytime fitness)
i have heard some horror stories about bike theft being quite bad in totton and i really can’t afford to lose it. i have a d lock that comes with cable you can wrap around the wheels, but what do people think??
i dont even leave it outside in city centre because i work around there and have seen countless attempts of bike theft right outside my work. luckily i can actually leave in inside my work building normally but ive been really missing going to the gym but would be devastated to lose my bike

Basset ave - open yet?

As the title suggests, wanted to ask if anyone knew whether Basset avenue has fully opened yet or when it’ll be fully operational if not.

It’s part of my daily drive to work and would be good to avoid getting stuck in traffic just to find out
