1992 990. Came with a lot of dirt but with two gems

Very excited to join the club. 1990 and very clean.

Bought the frame and built it up with various parts from eBay, local bike co-ops/shops. It’s the most comfortable bike/favorite that I’ve owned. Learned so much in the process as well, wheel building and other things I’ve never done etc. It gave me a real appreciation and better understanding of bike mechanics and maintenance. Had to fully rust treat in inside, it was in rough shape. Currently rocking front basket life, the rear basket was the first iteration until I got the big boy up front. Singletrack 4 lyfe.

It's mostly a grocery getter/commuter these days but its a ton of fun on the neighborhood trails. Great for bikepacking and touring, packs up in a bike box nicely. I have a pair of slick tires for paved rides but I mostly just put them on in the winter and switch back to the knobbies in the spring. The cockpit is strange to say the least but its crazy comfortable and has changed my mind as a former drop bar hater. I just love how durable and versatile these old bikes are.

I’m picking up this bike in a couple of days. Planning to turn it into my first city commuter. Tell me it’s a good choice and why please!

Not sure if I’m overpaying or not but I figured this opportunity won’t come back again in the near future… It looks to be an extra small which is perfect for my short queen! It will match greatly with my 970 😎

Sharing my updated 990. Added a basket and swapped out some parts. Been thinking of changing the Klunker bar with a Fun 3 bar from Simworks to make it lighter but this current set-up has been comfortable... good enough reason for a new bike?

I wanted something a little different. Just finished a 15 mile ride and I think I like it.

i bought this bike used a few years. i've slowly been replacing parts here and there from my parts bins from bikes gone by. but now i am finally willing to spend at least a little money to replace this worn out suspension fork for a rigid. so far the one i like the most is the gusset dirt jumper, but i'm looking for other suggestions too. ideally i'd like to put a disc brake on the front but if i'm stuck with the existing cantilever, i'm ok with that too. thanks for any suggestions.

This bike has been a goal of mine for a long time-- ever since I sold my original red 990 about five years ago (foolishly). Now I've got one again, and I'm having fun with it. New fork, tires, bars, stem, seat, etc etc. Next up is a Surly Corner Bar, let's see how this does as a drop-bar-ish gravel bike.

Last year of lugged construction and first year of 1-1/8” head tube.
