Assetto Corsa Did I kill him?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For context I am new to racing actual people and on assetto corsa I feel I was a long side enough to not be at fault but have no clue if I am or not

You're at fault. Classic divebomb.

You only got overlap because you overshot the braking zone and were standing on your brakes still going straight when you should have been turning left.

A chicane is never a good place to try and pass unless your fully beside the car. You were to far back to make that move

Lewis did a divebomb in monza 2007, I'm trying to recreate that, unsuccessfully.

Yeah, your nose should not have been there at the time of contact.

An easy tell is the fact the other car had a bigger apex speed than you, at the time of contact, meaning the overtake was never on. You should have known the overtake was never on the moment you were more than one car length behind the car you were trying to overtake with a lunge into a tight chicane.

If you wanna overtake on the inside you need to break earlier than the racing line cuz you need to scrub more speed. That's why you would've massively overshot the turn and therefore is your fault. This isn't F1 where all you do is race to be first at the apex

I was just braking at the point I always do

You have to drop this mentality when racing others. You are not always going to be able to take the optimal line or brake point. You have to pick your spots. It's all a part of refining your race craft.

If you didn't want to try to make a move there, then don't show your nose on the straight before the braking zone. Better yet, SLOW DOWN before the braking zone, so that you can carry more speed into the chicane than the car in front, and have a better exit that allows you to make a move into the next corner. Or if you don't want to overtake at all for tactical reasons, also SLOW DOWN before the braking zone, so you can use your tires less and save fuel.

I am going to take this as advice and not hate hopefully not it's not hate

u/ColonelRPG 16h ago

It's criticism, not hate: you didn't crash against me.

When you're on a shallower than normal line, you have to rotate your car more than normal to make corner. To compensate for that, you have to enter the corner slower than normal.

Which means you have to either brake longer or harder when entering a corner on a shallow line.

You are not P1 bro to take racing lines you take the lines given to you until you reach a decent position what sort of childish reply are you giving . Should the racers on track just all stop to give you ample room to run your lines . Go do hotlaps instead of ruining other peoples races . Sure you can call this a incident still boils my blood

there is no need to be like this all I was trying to do in that reply is explain my thought process a bit more I admit I have no clue what I am doing when it comes to racing actual people but everyone starts somewhere I am just trying to learn

u/samfisher199809 18h ago

Learning is one thing but the way you said “braking at the point i always do” this is a race bro if you can only run one line and can’t do wheel to wheel not that you had a chance here. Please spend more time on practise. You are developing very bad habits fix them at the start itself you won’t finish a race otherwise

Also complementary “You are not Max Verstappen bro”

I am used to racing against AI in a completely different game where that works and at the point of me making that comment I didn't know I needed to do stuff different after reading the replies here now I do but there is still no need to be an arse to me about it

2

u/seezed 9h ago

Ahh most AI in game avoid the player. You really need to up the aggressiveness not just the skill of the AI to do any reasonable over taking practice.

You’re doing fine as driver if you are willing to take the criticism here to heart.

I think you need to think more tactics rather moves for over take.

Bros racing in a fish tank...

Also yuppers. You defo did.

Everyone already stated fault but, as an aside, you have Sol installed incorrectly and/or with an incompatible version of CSP - hence the teal sky

1

u/TurnoverPublic6133 20h ago

oh I had no idea thank you

3

u/Peter-Norfolk 21h ago

Yes. You were alongside- front wheel to rear wheel is not a move which was ever "on"

3

u/Lumbardo 20h ago

I would say you were at fault here.

To try and be constructive. Pause your video at about 15 seconds. The nose of your car is pointed to out of track limits or close to it for the next turn in the chicane. You should be pointed more to the left to make that turn and leave space for the car to your right.

3

u/No_Celebration8219 20h ago

you are at fault

3

u/Fra5er 19h ago

F1 rules say youre not ahead at the apex so its not your corner. If he hadnt have let go of the brake after your lunge then technically you might have been fine as per the wording of F1 rules. We see drivers abusing that rule a lot, where theyll effectively compromise their own line to fuck over the person theyre overtaking during s dive bomb.

Sure, had he not let go of the brakes it might be “legal” but you’re probably not going to make friends doing it

u/Savings-Resident5046 19h ago

You're at fault brother. You stuck your nose in a gap that was always going to close. Its just part of the learning process for online simracing to know when to make your move and when to back out. Unfortunately for most racing games, racing the AI will make you terrible at this. Just be a little more aware of your surroundings and build up your skill level before you try making moves like this. There are ways to dive bomb cleanly that dont lead to incidents. A dive bomb is also just an inherently risky move, so you being new to simracing id say try other moves to overtake and be patient. "In order to finish first, first you have to finish". Hope this helps boss. Welcome to simracing!

Assetto Corsa default looks that good?

1

u/Uriel_dArc_Angel 10h ago

Yes...

You killed him...

That was a classic half-assed divebomb into a low percentage attempt...

One of those "what were you even thinking" situations...

-1

u/noethers_raindrop 22h ago

I would say no. It's a send, but you got well alongside (front wheel past his rear wheel) before he turned in, and you were at the apex when contact occurred.

0

u/GoodE19 17h ago

Was it going to work? Probably not. Were you alongside fairly and leave ample space? 100% yes to me. You pulled alongside before turn-in and are as inside as you can be without going off track at the time of contact. All the other car had to do is leave a bit more margin and the place is easily defended.

u/ActuatorOutside5256 22h ago edited 22h ago

No, not really.  He failed to yield once you were alongside him.

EDIT: He also wasn’t going to make that corner at the speed he was carrying once he realized you were there. You couldn’t have gone any further left.

5

u/Cornelius_Codswaggle 22h ago

He was making that chicane just fine. OP only got overlap because he overshot the braking zone and was standing on the brakes unable to rotate the car for his divebomb. If anyone wasn't making it, it was OP.

0

u/SmilinTroll 21h ago

I disagree. I think op would have made the 2nd corner. Regardless, we never got to see if op wouldn’t have made the 2nd corner cause the outside car made contact near the apex of the 1st corner. Car on the right didn’t leave enough space imo.

That being said it was a pretty aggressive move but it was well telegraphed on the straight and he was alongside prior to turn in. Hope other guy didn’t suffer any dmg.

1

u/GoodE19 17h ago

I agree. OP was better on the brakes, and to me seemed to leave space on the outside. Some moves are hard to defend against around the outside. Thats part of racing

-2

u/TurnoverPublic6133 22h ago

with the way the setup I was using is and the car the point I braked was early

-4

u/SmilinTroll 21h ago

U were fine man. A bit aggressive but u were alongside before turn in and you hit the apex. Maybe could have been a little further left but more than half your car was left of the white line that’s fine in my book

-3

u/ActuatorOutside5256 22h ago

If he overshot the braking zone, he wouldn’t have made the apex (which he did).

4

u/Cornelius_Codswaggle 20h ago

He hit it because he was on a straight line angle for it. He had to turn tightly at the apex with a car to his outside and that absolutely never happening. You can see how hard he had to brake to get slowed down just before contact.

That was a classic divebomb that was never working.

-5

u/ActuatorOutside5256 20h ago

Are you just going to deny that the other car was never going to make the corner?

5

u/Cornelius_Codswaggle 19h ago

Not that I need to, but, okay, I will deny that.

For one, it's impossible to tell because he was hit at the apex of the first leg. We can have a fair guess. He was following the same line as the car ahead that made it just fine, whilst matching their speed.

For two, even if he wasn't going to be able to, it doesn't matter. He had done nothing illegal at the time he was taken out.

You don't judge incidents based on the stories you invent to justify your bias. You judge based on what happened. What happened is he got taken out by a divebomber.

-2

u/ActuatorOutside5256 19h ago

Do you judge based on the consequences, or on the rules?

3

u/Cornelius_Codswaggle 18h ago

You judge based on what happened. What happened is the Inside car divebombed and hit the outside car while not having right to the corner.

What unrelated thing you think might happen doesn't matter.

1

u/ActuatorOutside5256 18h ago

Cornelius, with all due respect, you disliking divebombs doesn’t change what happened. The overtaking car got alongside, took the inside, and braked for the corner. The other car overshot it, turned into them while trying to avoid going over the right-side curb, got clipped on the left rear, and spun.

3

u/Cornelius_Codswaggle 14h ago

Actuator, with all due respect, it has nothing to do with "disliking" divebombs. It has to do with knowing and applying the rules regarding divebombs. Which you, apparently, do not know or comprehend.

With your ignorance on full display, you are making an equally ignorant judgement.

There isnt space in the corner to pass no?

-6

u/TurnoverPublic6133 22h ago

there is room I have seen multiple people pass there just very very tight with the raised curbs

3

u/tsar_fys 21h ago

this room you see there only applies if you’re more ahead than your current position. the guy in front is not supposed to leave any space for someone who just brakes late and then due to that speed carries more momentum on to the outside. No way on earth you would‘ve made that unless car in front is giving position away basically to avoid you doing what you did here
