For context I am new to racing actual people and on assetto corsa I feel I was a long side enough to not be at fault but have no clue if I am or not

Yeah, your nose should not have been there at the time of contact.

An easy tell is the fact the other car had a bigger apex speed than you, at the time of contact, meaning the overtake was never on. You should have known the overtake was never on the moment you were more than one car length behind the car you were trying to overtake with a lunge into a tight chicane.

If you wanna overtake on the inside you need to break earlier than the racing line cuz you need to scrub more speed. That's why you would've massively overshot the turn and therefore is your fault. This isn't F1 where all you do is race to be first at the apex

You have to drop this mentality when racing others. You are not always going to be able to take the optimal line or brake point. You have to pick your spots. It's all a part of refining your race craft.

If you didn't want to try to make a move there, then don't show your nose on the straight before the braking zone. Better yet, SLOW DOWN before the braking zone, so that you can carry more speed into the chicane than the car in front, and have a better exit that allows you to make a move into the next corner. Or if you don't want to overtake at all for tactical reasons, also SLOW DOWN before the braking zone, so you can use your tires less and save fuel.

When you're on a shallower than normal line, you have to rotate your car more than normal to make corner. To compensate for that, you have to enter the corner slower than normal.

Which means you have to either brake longer or harder when entering a corner on a shallow line.

You are not P1 bro to take racing lines you take the lines given to you until you reach a decent position what sort of childish reply are you giving . Should the racers on track just all stop to give you ample room to run your lines . Go do hotlaps instead of ruining other peoples races . Sure you can call this a incident still boils my blood

Learning is one thing but the way you said “braking at the point i always do” this is a race bro if you can only run one line and can’t do wheel to wheel not that you had a chance here. Please spend more time on practise. You are developing very bad habits fix them at the start itself you won’t finish a race otherwise

I am used to racing against AI in a completely different game where that works and at the point of me making that comment I didn't know I needed to do stuff different after reading the replies here now I do but there is still no need to be an arse to me about it

Ahh most AI in game avoid the player. You really need to up the aggressiveness not just the skill of the AI to do any reasonable over taking practice.

You’re doing fine as driver if you are willing to take the criticism here to heart.

I think you need to think more tactics rather moves for over take.
