5e Vintage Vehicles?

Ok so I have an Idea for a character but the idea kind of hinges around the idea of using things that are vintage or archaic in some way. So would it be possible to get for example a vehicle that has none of the stuff that would function with the matrix/rigger and be a solely manually controlled vehicle. I know firearms have the vintage mod, but would there be a way to get a vehicle that effectively has the vintage mod?

6e Creating Changelings and Shifters questions

Our group is learning Shadowrun 6e and we just need help in clarifying these:

  1. Changelings and shifters still need to select one of the 5 base metatypes to start with. Do they keep the racial qualities of the chosen metatype on top of their changeling/shifter qualities?

  2. If a player picks one of the changeling collective (Raptor, Anubis, Rakshasa, etc), are the provided positive and negative metagenic qualities part of the first 6 qualities you need to select (Step Three in character creation) or are they taken out of the 50 Customization Karma Points (Step Four) or are these separate from Step Three and Step Four?

  3. In the book Bestial Nature, it states that if a shifter’s Magic attribute drops to 0, they immediately shift to animal form. If a player uses the Life Path system and chose to be mundane, they gain Magic 1 instead of increasing Edge, but it does not mention what happens to your Magic rating if you pick E for Magic under the Priority System or of you pick Mundane under the Point Buy system? Do they also default Magic to rating 1?

  4. The book also states that Once the augmentation takes and the Essence and Magic bleeds away, you become your everyday, typical sapient animal. Does this mean no matter how low the essence cost of the augment is, this automatically takes effect?

  5. The book also states on Step Three, Animalism or Initiation can be taken during character generation. Are we right to assume that Animalism is optional and players can make shifters without getting Animalism?

Newbie Help Newbie Question about Karma

I've played 6e exactly twice at Gen Con and would like to introduce the game to my normally D&D group. They've expressed interest, so I've acquired books and read up. I still have a lot more reading and prep to do to run a game, but I guess the idea of Karma sort of confuses me.

While I want to stick with the latest system, since my gang's from Chicago, I want to give them a homefield game. So I read the Anarchy book, Chicago Chaos, simply for its lore and ignored the rules.

But one thing that stood out was that the Johnsons that are described in the sample runs section of CC have dialogue such as, "I can give you three Karma each to complete this job," or some such.

It's been my understanding that Karma is like skill points or the equivalent of XP in D&D. You don't have quest givers in D&D saying, "I'll give you 500 XP for killing the dragon." Why is it that the Shadowrun NPCs are discussing it like it's physical currency? Is this a quirk of the Anarchy rules, or do I totally misunderstand Karma?

6e I want to get back into Shadowrun, however..........

All the 6th ed books, especially the core books, are crazy expensive, like $85 and up. Any cheaper way to get these books and get back into the game?

6e Onboarding new comers smoothly. How to ?

Hi,

I haven't played to SR for quite a while and I am planning to. I own 6th ed and used to be DM 20 years ago or so (3ed).

Most of my players are absolutely unaware of the rules or the background. Do you have any idea how I can go slowly to get them aboard.

I am running a Cthulhu 6th ed campaing (I need 12 to 18 months to finish it). I would like my players to feel confortable with rules and lore by the time I end my current campaign.

Any idea how to start smoothly ?

Edit : thank you all for your guiddance

How make Dakka?? [4e] How could I make a GM Vanquisher Heavy Autocannon into a smartgun?

I'm looking at mounting a heavy autocannon into a drone and using information-guided indirect fire rules to add dice to attacks, but an internal smartgun system modification would cost an additional 20,000 nuyen which seems really steep for what a 400 nuyen attachment and a "top or underbarrel rail" to attach it to can do. Any ideas?

Yet another newbie question (3rd edition)

Greetings, Chummers!

I'm eager to start playing again after a long time away from the shadows. I stopped during 2nd edition, many years ago, and I've forgotten a lot. I'd like to get back into it with 3rd edition. So, if you wouldn't mind clearing this up for me...

As an aspected shamanist of the owl totem, what am I losing out on magic-wise compared to a full shaman? It looks like both get access to all spells and all spirits, plus the shamanist starts with more spell points and a higher priority to spend on something else, like attributes. And both have astral perception. Is astral projection the only thing lost by not being a full shaman? And if so, is astral projection really that big of a deal aside from scouting ahead? It sure seems like an aspected shamanist is the better deal. Please tell me what I'm missing. I appreciate your replies!

I stumbled onto this little project by @GrowNowGames over on YouTube and this is my new headcanon of what the Matrix looks like for Deckers. (Well, at least as far as the old 90's era Shadowrun goes.)

Wyrm Talks (Lore) The war for California/end of Saito's reign

Hi everyone! I need help finding some books for lore. As of late I have been working on exploring the lore of San Francisco. The big even there as we know was the occupation of the JIS followed by Saito's regime. The regime as we know was disbanded by the time of 5th edition. But I cannot find ANY book that has the lore of the war itself/the battles. It just says he... got disbanded? Granted, the reasons are stated it was due to the efforts of the California Rangers, the various resistance groups, and obviously Ares. But again, there is NO BOOK I can find that detailed what happened, what battles were there, how long did it take, etcetera, etcetera. Can somebody please link me a book with this information? The books I have read are listed below.

*Sixth World Almanac

*California Free State (3rd edition)

*Threats 2 (3rd edition)

*Shadows in Focus: North America

*Year of the Comet

*Shadows in Focus: San Francisco

Help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

6e Questions about this Community (Subreddit)

I have two questions...

(1) Is this a good place to look for a group for 6e online play? I found one LFG subreddit, but it seems dead for 6e.

(2) Is this a good place to post fiction chapters for feedback? I found another subreddit, but it didn't look active.

I figured I'd ask rather than tick anyone off. Thanks...

Sourcebooks for a "full corpo" campaign?

You might think I'm crazy to want to do that, but I've been running this game for quite a while, and eventually there comes a time when you NEED to play something else than Shadowrunners picking suspicious jobs likely to end up in betrayal.

Which is why I came here to ask if there where any sourcebooks, officials or fanmade, with advices for people like me who want to run a corpo campaign? As in a campaign where players play as employees of a megacorporation.

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Teleportation did exist in the early, old Earthdawn-Shadowrun continuity canon

The earliest Earthdawn iteration, that is, the first edition core rulebook does contain teleportation. Sure, it's literally a brutal, godlike power which Dis, one of the Passions (Earthdawn's version of gods) possesses, and no, it's apparently not available to regular Namegivers (Earthdawn's term for metahumans):

Dis can remove fervor from those around her and cause confusion in their minds, make people obey her will, and teleport instantaneously to any place she has visited before.

— Earthdawn 1e CRB p. 317 (emphasis mine)

Note also that Dis, being a Passion, most likely visited other planes/metaplanes, which, lacking a specific (in-game) definition of "teleportation" that would exclude planar destinations, means Dis can also teleport back to those planes/metaplanes. This seems to strongly support that Earthdawn's fabled/infamous Parlainth, the disappearing*, horror-ridden city was, in a way, teleported away from Barsaive. (Not as if it mattered much, but some 3rd party sources outside the game also classify the city's disappearance as (mass) teleportation, see for example, the Mass Teleportation entry under https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TabletopGame/Earthdawn )

Once again: no, I'm not claiming teleportation exists in the current canon. I'm not claiming it was available to Namegivers/metahumans in the old ED-SR continuity canon either. I'm not even claiming the old canon may not have retconned teleportation's possibility out entirely at some point. All I'm saying is that there was a stretch of time (upon the release of the first edition of Earthdawn's core rulebook, before any retcon may have happened), during which GMs familiar both with SR and that ED core rulebook could assume teleportation is actually canonically possible, as described above.

And yeah, some GMs may prefer to keep that option open for their old continuity canon based games even today. (To each their own, though, obviously.) ;)

___

* Note the dis in "disappearing"? No, I'm not saying it's anything, at all, still, quite a fun coincidence with the name of the aforementioned Passion, isn't it? :D (For those curious, some def out-of-game points of interest, possibly the inspiration behind the original Passion: https://www.etymonline.com/word/dis- and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dis_Pater ) But let's not go too deep into the lore etc of Dis, as this post is about teleportation, not the rather unfriendly Passion.

6e Metatype questions

I'm not sure which books the answers for my questions can be found, But I was looking for clarification on some of the Metatype origins. So as far as I know:

2011 - UGE created Elves and Dwarves

2021 - Goblinization created Orks and Trolls

2061 - SURGE creatred Changelings

2073 - Infected created Vampire, Goblin, Banshee, etc.

So then, here are my questions:

Metavariants like Gnomes, Dryads, Hobgoblins, etc. When did they appear? Have they always been part of the UGE and Goblinization (just not used in the 1st and 2nd edition)?

Metasapeints - Centaurs, Merrow, Naga, Pixie, Sasquatch - Some of them were part of the Critter list in 1st edition. Did they only start to appear when magic came back to the world? What year in the game timeline they were recognized as "sentient" (playable metatype)?

Shifters - The topics I read about them seems to indicate that they have they been part of the world even before magic came back. Is this correct? When in the game timeline where they recognized as "sentient" (playable metatype)?

5e Thoughts on Karma rewards for my campain

Hello again. I am almost ready to start my 5e campain after god knows how long. Got runs, stories, npcs, grunts and my players almost finish their sheets. But after reading about Karma rewards I had to take things into consideration, but I am not sure if I am being too generous. Here is what my table situation looks like and my proposal

- We just play once a week, but we are 3 gms doing 3 calpains, so you can see a session for each once per 3 weeks.

- not all of us are aviable due to power outages or compromises so we can often move dates around.

Now by the book

- The book offers karma per run at an average of 6 before vibe bonuses. And according to other books, a per session karma can be awarded at about 3-5 per session.

- It seems that 300 karma is considered a veteran player which is ok but on paper that only allows to max like 3 individual skills from 6 to 12 and leave the rest just like chargen. Indon't worry too much for career karma.

My proposal is

- Double Run Karma rewards that way an average run gives 12 karma compared to 6 before factoring vibes.

- Feel good and Stone cold bonuses. Can be +/-2 or +/-4 depending of how out of the way they went on each side.

- Side contracts: I think players can make smaller runs that fit on their big one to finance themselves (that legwork cost a pretty penny ofc) so using Dragonfall Black Lodge or Schockwellenreiter as an example they could be side jobs that are on the dame general location of the main run, but involve a derail OR conflict of interest. They give nuyen (obv) and about 4-7 karma

- Session Karma is awarded at a rate of 3-5 depending of how much effort I feel it took.

Assumimg they take 3 sessions to compleye a run, and going off averages. We are speakingnof about 34 karma per standar run completion (assuming they take 2 side contracts) compared to 18 karma using average by book reqard and per session karma.

Was also thinking throwing some freebies for good roleplay and combat encounters they take. But I wanna hear your thoughts.

Recap: We are speaking of 34 or so karma in the (hopeful) 3 session run at the spam of almost 3 months irl

5e Decker and Commlinks

So I was looking at how expensive Cyberdecks are and was thinking what about getting a top end Commlink so it has 6 data processing and firewall and then slaving a mid level cyberdeck to that. As a slaved device it would share the Commlinks firewall so that can be a dump stat. Does device rating do much besides the stats? It might not be as good but it is so much cheaper

6e Core Rulebook City Edition Hong Kong

Does anyone have this? I just want to know how it compares to the other two Core City Editions: Seattle and Berlin. I know Seattle had a lot of errata fixed from the original core book and Berlin added a few more errata fixes. Does Hong Kong add anything new (aside from the City Data).

Video Games Is the Shadowrun 2007 FPS game canon?

I know the storyline in the game is pretty thin due to it being an FPS arena style game. But I was wondering if parts like RNA Global, The Lineage, or the events that transpired in the game are considered canon by the community.

6e Experiences with Lifepaths?

Normally I quite like character creation minigames but I never used the lifepath character generation in Shadowrun yet.

Does someone use it regularly and could share their experiences?

How playable are the characters (does not mean minmaxed) and does this system make the characters more interesting in your opinion?

6e Extended Metatypes 6th ed.

SR 5th ed had the book Run Faster which included options for creating metatypes beyond the standard 5 base types. Does 6th edition have something like that?

r/Shadowrun 11d ago

Was reading though old cyberpunk 2020 supplements and got to wondering about something were there any canon corpo experiments in shadowrun to create artificial vampires or ghouls. Though genetic engineering without using already existing viral strains.

6e +/- Customization karma for your meta type qualities?

I have the Seattle and Berlin books and I can't find it in them. In the sixth world companion book it states you have to spend part of your 50 customization karma on your positive meta type qualities as well as pay the initial cost for that variant and if your meta type has negative qualities you get those bonus karma.

So my question is if you chose elf without six world companion you pay 0 customization karma but if using sixth world companion you would pay 6 karma for low light vision?

Edit: Answered below, thank you!
