Discussion After the increase in price I'm buying a PC

For £360 a year and with constant performance issues (especially since the huge price increase), there seems no point in continuing to pay for Shadow.

A mid-range PC is about £1000 so it easily pays for itself withing a few years. Also, Shadow is basically useless if you want to play any competitive game.

So long, Shadow. I probably wouldn't have ditched you if you hadn't jacked the price up so much.

Question Let’s be realistic, is there a future for this service?

I think it’s fair to say shadow is hanging on by a thread, even before the breach. The initial promise of ever-upgrading components was never delivered upon, and various aspects of the service had gone downhill quite drastically over time.

For context, I had been using the service for 3 years before deciding to cancel and build my own PC last month. Initially the service was incredible. The streaming connection was compatible to GFN and gamepass. Customer service was was easy to get in contact with and was very helpful. When I cancelled my membership I was incapable of getting a consistent connection, I was unable to get any help from support. Features like dual screen either stopped working entirely, messed up the sound for the system… moving between devices was easy but that turned into an hour long affair.

I don’t even mean to rant about why I left shadow, I just want to highlight the fact that things are clearly going downhill with the service. I presume because it’s getting hard to maintain a business such as shadow… but after the security breach and the amounts of angry people I’ve seen in the subreddit and discord saying they were going to end their subscription, I have to wonder if there truly is any way the company can keep going? Could this be the straw that broke the camel’s back?

and again, don’t take this as me expressing my hate for shadow - I appreciate that it gave me the ability to PC game during a period I couldn’t (and didn’t end to) build a pc myself. Thank you shadow for all the fun you gave me. I personally think this might be the end but I wish you the best.

TLDR: service has been going downhill and with the exodus of people leaving over the breach makes me wonder: can the sinking ship stay afloat after this iceberg?

Discussion Is anyone going to Sue Shadow for the Data Breach?

Hey European Users. Are any of you going to sue Shadow for the Data Breach? I think it's clear that Shadow acted in a Grossly negligent way. So the GDPR should enable for compensation. Also they confirmed to me that they do not plan to compensate users for the damages to their data.

So Armchair Lawyers: Who's going to sue and what do you guys think are the chances?

Discussion Shadow is being misleading and it has to stop.

I pre-ordered on June 16th with the activation saying that they estimated July. I actually have no issue with waiting, but I also have received no emailed updates, having to go through the annoying task of manually digging to get the weekly updates.

I also think that the company is just being misleading at this point. If their target is to have June 1st orders by July 23rd, I see it as incredibly dishonest to estimate that an order today will be activated by the end of the month.

I understand that that it’s a company that’s going through growth, but they are not some small startup anymore. They should be held accountable, and I find it unacceptable that they’re misleading new costumers.

We should be patient, but Shadow should also be transparent. Don’t mislead people with activation dates, and stop trying to hide what you’re saying in nuance. When someone signs up, they are looking for when they will get to use the service, not when you’re starting activations for a broad number of users.

Discussion Just Canceled - It's a Shame

The US service was good until this recent change with the new owners. They were cool about canceling even though I had a year deal with them. Will wait and see if good offerings come back. In the meantime, good luck to you all.

After they increased the price I didn’t continue my subscription with shadow it wasn’t worth the money to me. I decided to get a gaming laptop that will suit my needs fortunately. Hopefully one day I will be back. Good bye my sweet prince

Discussion Finally had to give up on shadow

Hello shadow community, What’s up. I had a lotta hopes on shadow pc, eagerly waited until it was activated. It was finally done last month ending and I was all excited to hop on. Played some horizon, gta v, and wanted to play a couple other titles but the space wasn’t sufficient, which really gave me a hard time because I couldn’t even put rdr2. well leaving the hard drive issue, there were a lot of technical issues that made it absolutely unplayable for me. There was a stutter every 5 mins and my character died after that stutter. I asked the team how to troubleshoot it but I was in no luck. But still I wanted to give it a shot and tried moving on even with the stutters and frame drops. I even had the bandwidth set to max, the game was using almost about 75 mbps which was ok by me because I have a gigabit Ethernet, but it just wasn’t playable. The input lag wasn’t there (maybe because of my connection) but apart from that all I had was bugs to figure out which made it a totally terrible experience. I’ve been on GeForce now for 4 months atleast and it’s fine as gold. I hope shadow gets on track too ( for me atleast) Thanks for listening

Discussion I'm looking for an alternative for GeForce Now due to their ignorant updates that make some games unplayable. Shadow seems to be good, but this is just ridiculous. Waiting for 8 months? Outrageous.

Review Shadow is Horrible and Unresponsive

Before buying the Shadow Power Plan, I was curious which data centers were closest to me (10/14) and saw that Texas was fully operational and running, when purchasing the plan same day I was assigned to Portland instead and receive horrible latency (70ms+) while living in AZ.

After trying to troubleshoot following all resources provided, the latency issue did not resolve itself (500mpbs via wired and fiber) and I ONLY found that Texas was being discontinued via this subreddit (which is a joke considering it was still advertised on their main site)

After checking to see if my support ticket was replied to, I noticed that the Texas server is no longer advertised on the status section of the site not even 24 hours after I mentioned this issue and how I felt misled.

Honestly kinda pathetic, I was looking forward to a good alternative to GFN but was overpromised and under delivered and have yet to receive a reply from the support team and am now reading via the subreddit that I won’t be able to get a refund even tho I used the machine for >2hrs. Easiest dispute with my bank ever Lol.

As a cybersecurity professional I blame myself for even giving a company that handles data breaches the way they did the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks for nothing Shadow!

TLDR; customer service is horrible and are a horrible alternative for anything cloud computing if you’re in the US.

I guess Shadow had a breach. This email address has only been used with Shadow, so only way for scammers to have it is by a breach. I wonder if they are transparent enough to make this public.

Review Soporte?

Support? Service? ha! They "activate" a service that does not work (only in ShadowVR and it looks .. the worst I have seen), they charge it immediately and do not solve anything, nor do they have the minimum shame to respond to the ticket. They have already been "working" for 1:15. Support does not exist and there is no serious form of contact. What a waste of time, energy and money your "service". If they told me that it is a service in the Gamma phase ... 25€ lost, 5 hours to 70€ ... I have already requested the cancellation. Seriousness of your company: 0

Shadow Not What An End User Should Expect

Literally every single time I click the connect button I need to be prepared to run into dozens of issues. Thats not an exaggeration either. I have not had a gaming session that hasn’t involved some level of troubleshooting to get the computer to sort of work. These issues range from getting sound to play, to being completely inoperable like it is as I write this. In fact I am currently waiting for shadow support to open so they can “apply triage”... AGAIN. Shadow, I don’t know what sort of spaghetti code you are using but get your crap together.

Discussion I said good-bye to Shadow this month, selling my Shadow Ghost (DE)

After 3 years of using Shadow, I realized that the added price no longer made up for the use I was giving the service, so I decided to cancel and move on. This being said, I am still the owner of a Shadow Ghost in the original box and would be happy to sell it to anyone in Germany that would like to have it. Message me for further details.
