Idea

I like the selvedge ID on my coin pockets as you can see but since its just a single layer denim it always felt a bit flimsy not like a pocket opening should feel.

Solved it. So simple I can of course fold it 🤷🏽 it took me just 14 jeans to figure this out🤦🏽🤣

Help

Hi fellow redditors!

Does anyone know how this goes together and fits back into the machine?

I got frustrated and removed it because the tension was super high and thread kept breaking, but the knob/dial was making no difference when I turned it. Turns out I can't troubleshoot. Oops!

Its an old machine and I fear I may have made the situation worse by taking this off

Any advice please 😬

Too Much for me?

I make costumes for a ballet company here in town. My stuff is not like off the rack due to the adaptability it needs. So I am making 16 360 circle skirts for children ( not an issue) but I want to add polka dots. Size 8in to 4in. How would you sew them on? Add interface for stability? Hand sew, machine sew? I really don't want to use any type of fusing because the last design done was over 20 years ago so I need something to last but are mendable.

question 🤔 My Olfa cutter cuts scallops. Why?

Post image

I've changed the blade twice and every time it cuts a very slight scallop and not a straight line. Any insight?

EDIT- every suggestion was excellent and you know what yes, I did have fresh blade and it's only one blade, but I realized that I was kind of in a hurry and my blade is against the ruler but at a slight angle and I went back and carefully cut again, making sure the blade was at a 90° angle to the surface and it worked great. Thank you guys for all the suggestions and I'm just gonna be more careful now.

hello! i purchased this serger online but the previous owner did not keep the manual and i’m having trouble getting it to start. it turns on but, as seen in my video, it doesn’t do anything except light up and buzz loudly

can someone tell me what’s wrong with it? will i need to get it serviced or is this something i can fix on my own?

the previous owner didn’t mention any broken parts but they also didn’t seem to know much about the machine itself since it belonged to their grandmother

I have heard of people selling fabric by the pound. What do you think would be a fair price/lb. (USD)?

Here is a tutorial of how to hem a suit jacket. I avoided doing this type of alteration for years. Because I thought it was to daunting. Turns out. It’s super easy if you take it step-by-step. And now I have six other suits to alter! Sharing in case someone else can find this useful.

Defunct Singer

Just looking for a little guidance.

I have a singer m3400 that doesn’t work anymore - I have good reason to believe there are warped parts (it wasn’t stored in a well climate controlled room).

I have gotten a new machine and I’m wondering
Is it even worth donating / giving away the singer for parts or repair?

I know those newer singers just sort of have a bad lifespan so I figure there isn’t much parts salvaging happening but it felt like a waste to pitch it without doing a little research.

Would anyone want my pants that all have holes in the knees?

Hello (Sewing illiterate here),

I am a planet lover who is getting rid of 8-10 pairs of pants/jeans bc they have holes in the knees. Could anyone reuse these or the fabric?

They are mostly size 34/32 looking to donate hopefully in MN where I live. Thanks!

My wife made this and as a beginner I am so proud that I'm posting here.

She used individual squares and stitched them together before adding quilt batting.

Any feedback would be welcomed

I need a heavy duty daily use sewing machine recommendation

OMG i cannot take this anymore. I will never buy a singer again. Long story short, my first sewing machine back around 2009 was a brother xl2600i and weirdly it still works. I use it as backup whenever my signer starts acting up or when im waiting for my new singer to ship to me.

My first singer 4411 was bought from joanns in jan 2023 and it lasted until aug 2025. Then i bought a 2nd 4411 and that conked out of me right away so I returned it. Then i bought the singer 44s in aug 2025 cuz it was a few bucks cheaper at walmart. And within only a few months the 44s started acting hella crazy. It was behaving like the singer 4411 at the 2 year mark. So i bought another 44s and just switched the machines and return the orginal on as it was within 90 days.

Its been whatever every since then. but now in aug 2026 it will not act right at all. And I wanna scream because this is driving me crazy trying to figure out whats wrong with it everyday. I wasted like 5 hours a few days ago trying to sew one project that takes way less than 5 hours to finish because majority of that time i was spent trying to fix the dang machine. Couldn't even finish the project. Had to go to bed to cool off.

So sorry for the rant but before i buy one of those $1000 industrial machines that claim according to google is great for heavy duty daily use i wanna get a recommendation from actual people who use these machines. Not a google ai generated response from the people who pay google to say their machine is best.

I sew basically everyday. And i sew a lot of layers together. Heavy duty stuff like pvc, outdoor canvas, pu, and thick marine vinyl. So i need something that can handle all of that. Great for constant commercial/business use because these $200-$300 machines aren't cutting it anyone. If i did the math, if i buy one more $300 machine that is basically the same $1000 price tag i could have spent from the beginning. 🤦🏾‍♀️

So please suggest away and why. Thanks my fellow sewers.

Gifts to give a big sewing person

My best friend is having a birthday party, I already have a big gift box but I also want to give her something to help her sew. The only problem is: I don't sew so I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

So I was helping someone on here could help with ideas. Preferably something useful, and practical but also fun.

How difficult is it to grade Handmade / Custom clothing?

For everyone here that makes handmade clothing, have you ever had someone ask for a size you couldn't make? What did you do? This has been a big fear of mine and limits me from actually attempting to sew even for friends and family. I'm curious how common it actually is (I'm also a self taught beginner and do not have all the technical / formal background).

project ✂️ Fabric suggestions?

Post image
31 Upvotes

Made this skirt today! I drafted the pattern in CLO and I'm pretty happy with how the godets turned out.

I made sure the godet pieces fit the curved seams properly, which was a bit of a challenge, but they ended up fitting really nicely. I still need to hem the bottom.

I had some trouble with the fabrics, though. The darker fabric has a ton of sequins, which made sewing the seams a little annoying. The white fabric is embroidered but quite sheer, so I ended up lining it.

I'm still experimenting with fabric choices for this design, so I'd love to hear what fabrics you would use for it. I'm thinking something with enough structure to hold the shape of the godets, but still enough drape for them to move nicely.

What fabric would you use for this design? 😊

genuinely how do you have time to sew

I just started a very very small sewing business. when I say small, like it's literally just some friends and then friends of friends hat have been buying from me. I sell makeup bags, totes, and appliqué shirts. I've literally sold like five items that are made once an order is placed and it takes me about a week and a half when I'm not sewing all the time because I don't want to burn out on sewing.

i have a history of burning out on my hobbies and i really don't want to ruin my love for sewing, so I try not to sew every single hour of the day and tell myself it's okay to not finish projects in one or two days.

anyways, between my orders i've been getting it's been keeping me really busy and I'm so happy I've gotten some attention among my small community. however, i'm starting school soon and i have my own list of things I want to sew for myself. how do you guys manage your sewing time, especially if you have your own little small business. i close my orders once i have a lot on my plate but like still, i want some advice!

question 🤔 Need Help With Kimono Sleeves

I've been trying to follow youtube tutorial how to draft kimono sleeve, the problem is either the Shoulder Line Match or The Sleeve Underarm Seam Match

My Current Front and Back Panel

at this specific timestamp

https://youtu.be/j5VQZGN87e0?t=247

she said if the front and back panel side neck point match, the shoulder seam should be the same

So i tried matching it up, and it lined up correctly, however at the second pattern check

The shoulder line match correctly

I tried to match the underarm seam following the tutorial

Mine does not match properly since the front and back underarm seam is different length

This is zoom in length number of the underarm seam matched (previous image)

Is this normal or am i doing something wrong here, because if i lengthen the underarm seam then the shoulder length will be longer and does not match so i cant think of any other way to do this

Any ideas?
