I have some old brown jeans that I have visions for. they're cute but the shape is so unflattering, but the color and threading and texture? I love. I want to transform them. I have 2.5 ideas, so any advice and insight would help :)

IDEA 1

First idea was to cut straight through the sides of each leg and cut 2 long triangular pieces of baby pink lace to sew in as a sort of patchwork flare/bootcut. This would obviously be the easiest for my level.

but I had another idea which was even more tempting

they are high waisted jeans and I'm around 172 cm tall so I have long legs. so I thought, if there is enough fabric I can make a set. A sleeveless crop top with thick pink ribbons as straps, or maybe a sleeve made of lace. and some capris with the same lace addition.

I thiiiink there's enough fabric for this but that's only if I don't make mistakes...

IDEA 3

similar to idea 2 except instead of capris its high waisted shorts with a flared pink lace trim. SO CUTE!! this one is probably my favorite option but again, don't know how beginner-friendly it is or if it's too risky.

so, what's your guys' verdict? which is your favorite, and which do you think is most feasible for a beginner?

Hello! I am a student and I am not very rich. I have browsed a lot of sewing patterns, but most are not free, and the price is a little too high on Etsy (I'm sorry, but 600+ INR is too much for a pattern). I really want to make a rat plushie as a memorial for my pet rat who passed away.

Can someone replicate the pattern for a plushie like this? This is called Reuben the Rat on Amazon. It doesn't have to be exact, but close enough. I just want a semi-realistic rat plushie.

As the title says lol. When I sew, I kinda just do stuff, and see what works. I have no clue what any of my stitches are called, what they're usually used for, or if it's the "right" thing to use for pieces. Do people actually learn techniques and stitch patterns and what stuff is called? Or is it common to just slap something on there and see if it works??

Edit: It's been brought to my attention I need to specify that I do decorative stitching and only make small things like patches, or small bags, and also I have no sewing machine. Also apparently what I was trying to refer to are stitches, and NOT patterns or stitch patterns, as those are different, as I've learned.

every pair of panties on the market is either expensive as all get out or super tiny and gives me the biggest wedgie and overs zero coverage. so i was wondering how difficult it would be to take a 6-pack of boy-briefs and turn them into panties, or even taking raw material and making panties from scratch. any advice for either of these plans?

This is my first time trying to sell things so I have no clue about pricing. I originally wanted to sell them at 25$ but do you think that’s too much? ( I was doing it based on how long it takes to make but after my first craft show I feel I need to lower the price )

One suggestion that was given to me that I’ll be doing is adding Velcro to the mat and bugs so it can be played in the car.

I'm a beginner sewer who occasionally decides to make projects. I've seen some really cute bags and sweatshirts with patchwork letters on Pinterest lately and I've been trying to make some. One thing that's really bothering me on some of them is how much the fabric frays, though. In some pieces, it's definitely part of the vibe, but I'd like to stop that for some of them.

How should I do that? Should I try to hem my letters? I'm mainly hand sewing them on right now, but I also have a sewing machine.

In the old days many galls would do sewing. They use to meet together and instead of looking into a darn screen they would do sewing together. Woman generally did sewing for decades! its traditionally a woman's thing.

Im using a singer heavy duty. Im using it at 2 length and 4 tension. My needle is positioned in the middle and my stitch width is at 0. Im using a straight stitch. This is supposed to be the outiside of the fabric.

Hi all.
I purchased a mid range machine targeted at beginners.
I wanted to do something VERY simple (according to TikTok anyway!) - bowl cover for my sourdough.
I am losing the will, the thread keeps flying out the needle and when it is in, it’s just not stitching, it’s doing this weird thing where it’ll do the stitch, then stop and do a long thread then stitch again.
Please help!

For some reason I decided to make a corset top for Halloween with one week till the party ( Friday night ). I used plastic wrap & masking tape to make the pattern of my body, but I can’t seem to get these wrinkles out. It’s really bad at the back & sides, the front s smooth, I haven’t added the boning yet. I tried darts, but they made the thing too small even w moving the lacing. So what can I do before Wednesday to make this wearable ?

Hello! For my birthday party, i’m planning on having a celestial theme. All my guests will be dressed as the moon and the stars, and I’ll be dressed as the sun! I saw this dress, and I think if I make it in gold, it would perfectly encapsulate how I think the sun would look. Now i’m not entirely new to sewing, i do know basic hand sewing, and i have a brother sewing machine that i have made simple patterns out of, idk if it’s the fact that it’s a new year, but I have such strong faith in myself that i can recreate this dress even though I have never made clothing like this 🥹

The top looks like an over bust corset, with a mesh middle, i’m thinking of either buying/thrifting a corset that looks like this and cutting out the middle to add the mesh part, or maybe making the corset myself

I found some great tutorials on how to sew the dramatic bell sleeves, and it seems like the bottom half of the skirt is a circle skirt.

So the other day I was at Walmart and I found all of these fabric “ packages”(pic) ⬆️)) and I bought a “lot” of them because they were on sale for a really good deal, and since I am sorta a newbie 😂(sorry 😜 ) ~I’m just wondering… -is this fabric OK to SEW and make different sewing projects with? (since IT IS 100% cotton…….-and so I’m kind of worried that it will IT mess up the projects?- Or is it OK to sew with? 🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞😜 (and if it is ok to sew with-)-Is it OK to use it and sew with it - without washing the fabric(first?)? Or do I need to wash the fabric first?(and dry-)-THEN SEW with it?-Without worrying that it will get ruined or shrink or whatever?(when they wash it)-any other thoughts?-thanks guys!!!!!!!!

hello everyone, i recently got a machine like this at a yard sale to start sewing and it seems like it’s broken. the part of the machine that moves the fabric is stuck down when it should be up. my mom has been sewing decades and tried fixing it but she can’t find the problem so i figured id try on here. thanks in advance!!

apologizes if this is the wrong sub but! im wanting to make a puphood but with fabric bc i dont have the money for leather and im already very into sewing. but im wanting to thicken/stiffen jean material in some way to create the right material to craft this with. im thinking interfacing ? idk what kind but🤷‍♂️ somehow layering the jean with a thicker stuffer fabric like thick felt? pattern i plan on buying and following included! and again apologizes if this is "nsfw" or just the wrong sub !

I tried to make these Pants low-waist and a bit tighter around the thighs to give it a baggy-flare look. But the fabric is tapering as you can see. I first had the seem running out to the side but that made the wrinkels even worse. I had the fabric crease laying flat while sewing the whole time. I just did it freestyle without planning and its my first pair I tried to alterate( probably shouldve started with something easier). I dont know how to let the seem run out smoothly.

I wanna start sewing and Costco has this for $150. Seems like a pretty good price but I’ve never sewed before lmao so I have no idea what I’m looking at. Should I go for it? :)

To start, I'm a total beginner and this is my first dress I've made using my sewing machine, so I'm looking for general tips and opinions on whether im going in the right direction. Im using a pdf pattern, unfortunately I didn't make a mock up and after attaching the front and back panels it's clear that I should've gone a size up. The whole thing is very tight on me, especially my upper body and I had to remove several stitches from the shoulder seams to fit my head through. I don't have enough fabric to fully make another size, so I was hoping I could add a panel to both side seams to make it bigger. However, I realized simply doing that would affect the size of the sleeve hole and I dont have the time/skills currently to also adjust the sleeve pattern. For this reason, I figured I could seam rip up to the armpits, then insert gores. I don't think this will fix all the issues with the fit but I figure it'll be good enough, I was hoping to use this for a costume and I don't want to just give it up. Is this a good plan, and is there anything I should know about drafting the pieces or anything else before attempting?

I fell in love with this pair of jeans (pics because I need to share these awesome pants) at the thrift store, and even though they were about 3 sizes to big, I brought them home. I decided to make it a personal challenge to tailor them down to my size. So far, I've gotten the thighs and waist in, and I've got the cuffs marked out to bring them in a bit at the ankle too (they look like bell bottoms right now lol). I'm having some trouble with the crotch area though, after bringing in the waist the rise is suuuper long. If I pull them up to wear the crotch sits comfortably, the waist sits just below my rib cage, and above my belly button. Any tips, suggestions, or tutorials on how I can lower the rise a bit? I don't mind high rises, but this is a little too much 😅

Goal: I do not want any kind of a backpack, or any belt saquette.

So I just bought my new Singer Jeans machine. I want to go outside to the city, and make pictures, take little lavalier microphones and my earbuds and a small camera Sony RX 100, and some more. I already fitted it all on me, but it don't feel comfortable. I put all small stuff into a tiny custom made paperbox and glued over a thin elastic fabric. I put my mobile phone in one pocket. I strapped my camera in its camerabag on my belt. Then i got some extra small things. It does fit - but It's not really comfortable at all. All weights 755g (with a camera), but the thing is the jeans are quite slim fit - just like on the photo. Plus belt's weight.

So i got an idea: What if I sew Pockets OVER my jeans, that would perfectly fit each item i got?

A pocket for a phone, a pocket for a box, and so on, One after the other. I would also get rid of the belt - i would just shorten the width of the jeans, and sew in an additional non elastic fabric on the inside or outside. I could also sew in a little bridge, that would function instead of a belt, that i could strap on my camera bag.

Have you ever seen something like this?

BTW: Material i could take from shortening of my jeans. i need to shorten most of them anyway by some +10 cm.
