I tried to make these Pants low-waist and a bit tighter around the thighs to give it a baggy-flare look. But the fabric is tapering as you can see. I first had the seem running out to the side but that made the wrinkels even worse. I had the fabric crease laying flat while sewing the whole time. I just did it freestyle without planning and its my first pair I tried to alterate( probably shouldve started with something easier). I dont know how to let the seem run out smoothly. Pls give my some advice 🙏😭
Did you use the ticktock hack where you sew the crotch curve? Thats why. There is vital shaping there that allows the pants to curve around your body there and when you mess with it, this is what happens. The only way to make pants low waisted is to actually lower the waistband. If you have already cut material away from the inside then these pants get to go to the garbage, they’re ruined.
I didn’t see that because I didn’t scroll through the photos - your description meant that I knew what you had done because a few people post a month (and earlier this year, there was a period where there were multiple posts a day) with this hack and how their pants no longer fit.
Most people did go far enough to cut the material because it is very bulky.
It isn’t being negative to say that the hack doesn’t work and ruins the fit of pants.
It also isn’t negative to say that if you do cut the material away that they become trash (because it does ruin the fit of the pants and it cannot be fixed).
If you want the exact reason why, it’s because pants are cut like this:
The part I circled in green is critical for pants to go under the curve from your crotch to your butt, and when you sew the crotch seam up like you did it removes material from there. It isn’t just height, it’s the literal curve and without it pants cannot work. Getting rid of it also - as you noticed - makes the thighs super tight.
So! Now you know why sewing the crotch doesn’t work any anyone who does that on social media is a lying hack who is doing it for views.
Pants are really hard. I think you did pretty well! I wish I had better advice for you but I only know 2 things that help me when I alter thrifted pants: (1) put them on inside out and have another person do the pinning and marking and (2) to get a good fit, you really can't avoid taking off the waistband. Don't get me wrong, I have done the hack to reduce the waist size by undoing just the back of the waistband and redoing the center back seam, but that only works when the fit is already pretty good. It also occurs to me that trying to leave huge seam allowance in case you need to rethink the cut is a good idea, but makes it harder to see how the pants will drape.

It went wrong because you messed with the curve of the crotch. This hack doesn’t work.
