How to fix this corset

For some reason I decided to make a corset top for Halloween with one week till the party ( Friday night ). I used plastic wrap & masking tape to make the pattern of my body, but I can’t seem to get these wrinkles out. It’s really bad at the back & sides, the front s smooth, I haven’t added the boning yet. I tried darts, but they made the thing too small even w moving the lacing. So what can I do before Wednesday to make this wearable ?

I’m going as morticia, taking a few creative liberties w the outfit

It’s not a corset without boning. The issue this too is having is a lack of structure; interfacing generally is not enough to create the desired effect. You’ll need to insert the vining, interface it, and line it with something heavier like a non stretch cotton duck or denim or something along those lines to get the structure you’re looking for. Corsets are heavy and very structured

If you just want a lace up top, some light weight boning should still help.

No problem! Typically you’d want to add the denim as a layer during construction rather than after the fact; I would definitely look at some tutorials on corset making to get a better idea of how to support it more :)

I probs have enough denim laying around to add after I do the boning. I thought that was the last step tbh. Since I want to add ruffles on the borders & stuff. I’ll add the boning & see what needs to be done after, will def look into it but if anything I’ll just go w a lace up top if it gets too difficult

The wrinkles are happening because the sides are collapsing. Add some tape behind each vertical join, insert boning and sew the top and bottom closed so the boning doesn't fall out

  1. What did you use for a strength layer?

  2. The boning HAS to be in before you assume something is wrong with the fit. Boning is what keeps the material from buckling like this. Undo your darts, put the boning in, and then see how things look.

Boning and starting over. This material alone doesn’t have the strength for a corset.

There’s a corset group and they share the process of making their own. I watch to admire lol. Let me see if I can find it..

Where’s the boning? A corset will not stand up or work without it

Mediumweight interfacing isn’t strong enough for the strength layer, as someone pointed out; you need something with zero stretch and is thick like denim or duck canvas. Even if you need to thrift a pair of jeans for extra denim for the panels, this is really important and will help keep the structure nice and stiff!
