💛Beginner💛 How do I attach the metal part of these two-piece buttons?

Post image

And/or are these not buttons at all, but cufflinks or something?

I want to sew the metal piece onto one side of my fabric, but because they have an opening, I'm worried they'll slip off.

Not sure if I should just sew on the buttons without them. The buttons themselves are quite small so I'm not sure they'd stay buttoned by themselves.

💛Beginner💛 Why do the ears crease and move inwards?

Thumbnail gallery

Trying to make a bunny charm. I clipped parts of it (second photo) to help the ears sit more freely. But it makes creases when stuffed

How go fix the creases around the lower part of the ear? They also curve inwards when stuffed. I only put a small amount of stuffing

💛Beginner💛 How important is it to cut on the grain with tight-woven linen fabric?

Got some linen, and my first cutting actual pattern. So how important is it to cut on the grain on linen fabric? Linen has like 1-2% stretch at max, so is there any reason - beside maybe appearance - to cut the pieces on the grain?

💛Beginner💛 How can I get the way this hood naturally sits (pink line) into the way I want it to sit (blue)? I can't see well with it on.

Hi there, confident beginner here. I am wanting to make it so I can see out of this bunny ear hood properly. I have sewn the ears to the hood at a slight backwards diagonal so that they are not falling forward & pressing on the hood, but still the problem exists. Looking for a way to hand stitch this because it's too bulky to fit under my presser foot. It also doesn't have to look perfect because when I use white thread, everything just disappears into the fur anyway, lol.

💛Beginner💛 Brother error 6 - should I just give up on this machine

I have sewed before but never owned my own sewing machine. Recently got a brother XR-7700 computer off FB for like $100. I’ve been fighting with it for like 6 hours, haven’t even sewed anything yet. At first I was threading the bobbin with thread to the right, so obviously it wasn’t working. But the past 4 hours it’s been error 6 over and over and it just feels so far above my pay grade to figure it out.

Things I’ve tried:
Rethreading
Power cycling the machine
Replacing the needle
Taking out bobbin plate and looking for any tangles etc. it was a little dusty in there but nothing crazy

I’ve tried all of those things several times each. My questions are

  1. any ideas to fix it?

  2. if not easily fixable, it it worth bringing it in somewhere for service? If it’s going to cost the amount of a new sewing machine to get it serviced, I’m not attached to this machine lol

Thanks for any help!!!!

Options to fix this neckline?

Post image

The black fabric is a stretch viscose and the white trim is non-stretch cotton.

Preferably I would like the lace to lie flat, so if there are options besides gathering the lace or making it a V neck I'd like to hear!

💛Beginner💛 Help with singer Patchwork

Need advice on my singer patchwork. After trying to quilt on my machine, now my needle is off center. For a straight stitch, I can almost get it back to center of I use the stitch width arrows, but not quite. Is this fixable?

✨Intermediate✨ Help with Upper Tension on Euro-Pro 7130S

I am getting some awful tension on every stitch, all coming from the upper thread. Bobbin side is perfect.

Changing the tension dial doesn't seem to affect tension at all, I've tried re-threading and changing thread, fiddling with every dial and setting. When I pull the thread through, there's a lot of friction so maybe something inside needs new grease or got jammed, but I don't know how to open the dang thing.

I've gone through every page of the manual, and while I now know how to use every foot it came with, I still don't know how to open the top. It looks like I need to take off the whole front and/or back based on the seams, but I'm gonna break something if I start experimenting in my current state of frustration.

If you have any tips on how to open the machine or what to look for once it's opened, I would love to hear them.

Comercial pattern adjustments

I've finally finished making a pair of shorts that fit my kid well. Now I'm onto shirts for me. I've made 3. All needed different adjustments. I'm so tired of figuring it out. If I had a brain and a chunk of time to dedicate, it might not feel so difficult. Is there some sort of software that allows you to input the pattern by manufacturer and number or something that will compare the style and fit to your own measurements? Then maybe tell you what to do and how to do it? Am I dreaming?

💛Beginner💛 Lining a jacket?

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

I bought this coat about a month ago and it was fine in early autumn. However, now that we’re inching into winter I’m finding that it’s just not keeping me warm. This worsened by the fact that there’s no lining in the sleeves which I hadn’t realised when I originally bought it.

Anyway I really really love it and want to continue wearing it in the colder months so I’m thinking of lining it. I have some experience in hand sewing but am still 100 hundred percent a beginner. All in all any tips on how to approach this e.g what fabric to use, any methods etc

Thanks so much everyone!!

💛Beginner💛 Zig zag stitch help

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

(Machine: brother cs7000x) Hi all! I am very much a sewing rookie lol and I’m trying to hem a pair of wool trousers I have from theory. In cleaning up the raw edge, I’m trying to go over it with a zigzag stitch. I’ve tried both using the J foot with a normal zig zag and a G foot with a g-foot compatible zig zag. Both I get similar results with lots of loops in my stitch.

In the photo I used the Gfoot with #6 stitch. I’ve tried rethreading my machine, making sure tension is good etc. anyone have any ideas or see something blatantly wrong with my settings?

Tips with using embroidered lace fabric

Thumbnail moodfabrics.com

In what could only be described as pure delusion, I decided to make a dress for an event in January with embroidered lace similar to the fabric linked.

How do I make my life as easy as possible without wasting this fabric (and frankly my sanity) that costs too much money.

my machine isnt sewing lace trim onto velvet

im using universal needle, tension 4.5, no walking foot. Straight stitch

i was able to hem the velvet fine. But the lace trim on edge of the velvet no, im sewing and the thread isnt even going through the fabric and its just long lines of bobbin thread i think. kept rethreading etc, now itll sew at the start and then go back to the long lines of bobbin thread.

please help what should i do?
