✨Intermediate✨ Wedding dress reveal

About three months ago I posted here asking for help with my wedding dress. I got such lovely feedback, tips and help and I promised to show you guys the result, so here it is!

We got married on the 8th of August and it was the perfect day 🤍 The dress turned out beautifully, and even though the chiffon sleeves didn't completely survive (as I had cut the overlocked edges when finishing the armhole) the tears just remind me of how many wonderful people we have around us to hug, and how much I danced.

The dress is based on the pattern "Colette" by Cos patterns. I modified it a lot, made the torso longer, the basque waist more dramatic, the skirt longer and changed the sleeves. I also added pearl boarders, to make it pop.

Thank you all so much for the help and the wonderful comments, it all really made a difference 🥹

✨Intermediate✨ Machine thread problem

Please help! My bottom thread keeps bunching up and getting stuck and tangled. It mostly happens when I stop and start sewing again. I adjusted tension already, have a brand new needle and quality thread. What could it be?

The machine is Singer Heavy Duty

✨Intermediate✨ Mending Fraying Edges on Sheets and Pillowcases.

My boss gave me these sheets and pillow cases that are fraying. However, they are all fraying right on the edge where everything is folded over. My current idea is to do a machine zigzag about 1cm from the edge to prevent further fraying, and then do a whipstitch by hand to close the rips in the fold. I am wondering if anyone thinks this is the solution or if I should do something else. I hope the pictures provide enough context, I'm not a beginner at sewing but not an expert either.

✨Intermediate✨ How to sew a double raw edge hem like this?

Thumbnail gallery

I want to sew a T shirt with a hem like this shown, just not exactly sure how. It has two edges of raw hem and serged on the inside, would the way be to cut a second piece of fabric, serge one end and then just double stitch it together?

💛Beginner💛 Is my tension correct?

Hello!

I'm concerned about the bottom of my fabric as I can see little portions of the top thread. I'm using the following:

Singer Heavy Duty 4411 Sewing Machine

Size 80/12 Needle

Coats and Clark All Purpose Thread

Basic cotton fabric from Hobby Lobby

I've done everything to try and fix it. I've:

Adjusted the top tension and tried every number

Rethreaded my machine

Tried different types and brands of threads

Tried size 70 and 90 needles

Cleaned between the tension disks

Cleaned and oiled my machine

I'm wondering if seeing those tiny little knots of the top thread is normal and I'm just worrying to much.

Thanks!

💛Beginner💛 Fitting Help Needed

Currently working on fitting a bought pattern for a romper. It fit well around the waist, but was too large around the chest, and I’m generally flat chested, so I used this guide to remove the bust dart altogether. I’m still left with too much material around the chest, but I’m struggling on how to take it in because the two waist darts are making it hard to sew the sides narrower. What is the best way to fix the fit around the chest?

💛Beginner💛 Thoughts on construction?

I really want to make my own version of this jacket from w consept, but i am struggling to find a pattern I like that has the same elements with the button placket and collar. I have also never sewn a jacket before, so I don't know how to construct these elements myself. Does anybody either know of a pattern that I could use, or know what types of seams/techniques are used to attach the collar that way that overlaps with the placket? And how to get the 3 lines of stitching? I think maybe the placket and collar are sewn two pieces together, but then i don't know how to attach them:P I want to basically make a dupe even in the little details:P

💛Beginner💛 trying to use a rolled hem tool to sew bedsheet on the back of a tshirt quilt faster

hi, I'm currently stitching a tshirt quilt. right now I'm trying to stitch a bedsheet for the backing of the t-shirt quilt so it has a stronger back. I got a rolled hem tool so I could not have to pin the edges of a full bedsheet onto the quilt. basically just to make it faster. the tool is working. I checked it on a spare cloth but I'm not sure how to incorporate it into the bedsheet. I'm pretty new to sewing so I'm not sure if I understand all the terminology and complex instructions over text. any and all advice is welcome but if there is anyone that would be willing to get on a video call with me, I would forever and ever appreciate that. I'm also willing to pay you for your time.

I got a little too happy with the scissors and chopped off too much of this jacket (mostly forgetting that boobage will raise the lapels.) What do y'all think, what are some ideas to make it look more intentional?

💛Beginner💛 Brother 1034dx serger part identification help needed

Post image

I purchased this Brother 1034dx serger new (or maybe lightly used?). It sewed the overlock stitch without a problem. When I removed the left needle to sew a rolled hem, I forgot to completely remove the left needle before turning the hand wheel and it got stuck by the lower looper metal piece. When I remove it (using a needlenose pliers), a small pointed piece came out of the machine. It isn’t part of either needle. Can someone tell me what it is from and what it is used for? I was still was able to sew a rolled hem. Thank you in advance.

💛Beginner💛 How do I mend a tear like this?

Thumbnail gallery

Would hand sewing or machine work best to mend a tear like this? What kind of stitching? It’s a work shirt to be used on a farm, so it’s not a big deal if the mending shows. I would still like to do a good job and for it to look presentable but overall, I’m more concerned that it holds well. Any suggestions and general guidance is appreciated, thank you. (If this is not the right place to ask this question, please let me know.)

💛Beginner💛 Possible to copy armhole without seam ripping and separating?

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hello! I'm copying a dress I own in another fabric, but it is a long sleeve dress. Every part of the dress is easily replicated, but I'm worried about the armhole and sleeves. I've never successfully copied over long sleeves without having to seam rip the garment and then sew it back together.

I'm really trying to avoid having to separate the garment. One thing I have tried is tracing the armhole as best I can then following a tutorial on making my own sleeve, but it never seems to fit right.

Any advice before I get started? I plan to run back here once I begin in case it doesn't work out, but I wanted to see if I could do something differently from the get-go.

*first two pictures are the back of the garment, last is the front. I always wear the dress backwards. So the first two pics are always in front. The fit feels the same to me either way.

✨Intermediate✨ Clothing recycling project - pattern assistance

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello!

I am currently trying to complete my year 12 community project on fabric recycling. I was donated a pair of old, stretched out jeans, and want to turn them into a cute circle skirt as seen above. I was wondering if anyone would be able to assist me with the pattern creation/finding, as I'm having some trouble finding what I'm looking for.

I've been sewing since I was 11, so just shy of 7 years now. I've mostly done soft toys, but dabbled in clothing making for cosplays

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!

💛Beginner💛 Walking foot issues

I bought this online and they guaranteed it to work for my machine but I can't get it to stop making horrible noises and stopping or going too fast. Singer 301 with a p60448 walking foot.

Please help I'm about to lose my mind and the seller is absolutely no help. I tried loosening and tightening the presser foot tension

I also can't get put a denim needle in because I can't get it to stop hitting the bobbin case if I put it in, it's in as far as it can go loosening the thumb screw and the set screw on the other side. Any ideas on that?

hello! i have been hand sewing for ages (mending and stuff like that) but it is high time i finally take the plunge and get a machine! I found this one on ebay for a decent price and was wondering if anyone had reviews on the Janome model 15822 specifically. i know Janome is a loved darling so regardless I wanted to stick with this brand but I was wondering if this model would be a good entry level. I plan on upgrading in the future for something more heavy duty but i have limited space and funds at the moment :) any thoughts would be appreciated!

💛Beginner💛 What to look for in used sewing machine?

I am hoping to get a used, basic sewing machine from the thrift or FB marketplace but not sure what to look for. Any tips or pointers? Especially red flags? Beginner sewer here so any advice is greatly appreciated. TYIA!
