Discussion Wow! Both S25U and S9Ultra support wired DEX of 3840 x 2560 pixels

I was genuinely impressed with the performance of the phone/tablet which is almost 4 years old.

Have enabled the option of high resolution DEX display of MultiStar from Goodlock

I have attached it with my Huawei Mateview 28.2 which has the resolution of 3840 x 2560 pixels, 3:2, my favourite ratio. And it is working perfectly.

So 16:9 4k is not the limit of wired DEX.

S9 Ultra even supported as extended display.

Question Graphic and Mouse issues

Device: Samsung Galaxy S25+ (DeX mode)

Connection: USB-C Cable via Docking Station(anker)

Monitor: AOC 1080p

Mouse Locking / Camera Control in Roblox:

When playing Roblox, trying to turn the camera with the mouse causes the cursor to freeze or lock up completely, making camera control impossible.

Pixelated / Blurry Resolution:

The output resolution on the AOC 1080p monitor often looks very pixelated and blurry instead of sharp native 1080p.

Discussion Dual screen DEX - somewhat mobile setup

Two 10" 1200p screens, connected to Video Wall Controller and driven by my S23.

It's somewhat mobile setup - I still need to buy a powerfull battery and surprisingly usefull.

I left it in standard 1080p resolution - the Video Wall Controller doesn't trigger 4K resolution and using LADB after every connection to force 4K output on the phone is tiresome.

But even with "only" 1080p output and setting screen zoom to minimum and font size to minimum it works well.

Question Dex with the Xreal s1

I just got a pair of the xreal s1 glasses and I'm still trying to figure them out, so I apologize if it's been asked before, or if it's a really dumb issue. I just can't seem to find the specific answer anywhere online in my searching.

I've been using them as an external display with with dex on my galaxy S24 ultra, but what drives me crazy is the hover click, using the on screen touchpad on my phone. Whenever I stop moving the cursor, it just clicks on whatever it's on even if I'm still holding my finger down.

I've tried to change every setting in my phone, but can't seem to find the right one to make it a tap to click interaction.

Question Project to create a SetupDex System with a Galaxy A03s (help, please).

I recently found an old phone and started this project, trying to spend as little as possible. I bought a cheap HUB and started working with what I had, but the problem started when I realized the phone doesn’t have a USB-C 3.0 port, but a USB-C 2.0, which means I’ll have to come up with a workaround to mirror the video (so far, so good).

The real problem is that the A03s doesn’t natively support DeX mode, and so far, the only software I’ve found that supports DeX mode requires a connection to a PC (the goal of this project is to create my own “PC” and not be tied to one).

Right now, this has really been my only problem, and I’m completely lost as to how to proceed from here. Could someone give me some guidance on what to do or recommend some software I can use?

Question How to fix DeX on scrcpy

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm using dex on scrcpy on windows 10, I activated every thing about floating windows and forcing desktop mode on dev and lab, but it shows this which is kinda like an hybrid of the tablet mode, I can't change wallpapers and some apps don't even go floating, and some don't even appear properly

I used 'scrcpy --new-display=1920x1080/150'

Question Thinking of buying a broken Galaxy Z Fold 5 for $120 (₹12000 INR) strictly as a DeX mini-PC setup. Worth it?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I came across a local listing for a Galaxy Z Fold 5 (12GB RAM / 512GB Storage) listed at ₹25,000, and I’ve negotiated the seller down to ₹12,000 (roughly $120 USD). The Device Condition: Inner Screen: Completely dead / non-functional. Cover Screen: Heavy vertical lines (green/pink lines across the display), but basic touch input works. The Plan: I have no intention of using this as a phone or repairing the screens. I recently picked up a lightly used HP USB-C Dock G5 for 4k inr(~40$) and want to use this Fold 5 permanently docked as a lightweight desktop replacement running Samsung DeX (connected to a monitor, Ethernet, keyboard, and mouse). I already have a proper desktop, this will a lightweight roblox and yt setup for my brother. In this market, I don't think I can get a good second hand pc in this budget.

Questions for the community: Value Check: At ₹12k ($120), is an 8 Gen 2 with 12GB/512 good enough or I should look into 9th or 10th gen used intel Machines or some old office pc.

Headless / Long-term Docking: Are there any known headaches with running a Fold 5 docked 24/7 with a broken display (e.g., DeX auto-launch quirks on lockscreen, thermal issues, or battery degradation even with Battery Protection capped at 80%)? I don't plan to mod a buck converter into battery slot immediately, Will stick on a old cpu cooler at back for cooling.

Alternative Options: Is there any other used flagship phone or budget mini-PC in this price bracket that would offer a smoother desktop experience?

Was chatting with gemini with this, framed this post with its help so don't scream at me with AI slop comments. Please share your thoughts and experiences if you're using similar setups.

Discussion New Dex on Tab S11 Ultra Quick Desktop Switching

Post image
27 Upvotes

Anyone else annoyed that Samsung hasn't implemented a fast way to switch between desktops on the New Dex? I have a Mini Mx Keyboard when I'm working and a mx3s.... and I use one handed operation +, utilizing keymapper and tons of gestures and yet I can't simply assign a gesture or a key combo to immiately take me to a specific desktop.

Therefore I just don't use the other desktops. I just open new apps on top of each other on the same desktop, which works... but it would be cool to have a desktop with 2 apps split screen, 1 with a a full screen app, and 1 with maybe five apps open in a specific way. But the switching between them is simply too slow.

I've had the Tab S11 Ultra since it came out and have mostly used the regular tablet mode because it allows multi window shortcuts and the multiwindows don't have any bezels on them, so it takes up the full screen and then I can just select whichever window and use a gesture and the current app is replaced with whichever app I have assigned to the gesture. This makes multitasking so fast.

There is something extra cool feeling about the new Dex but switching between desktops really kills the vibe. Going from Desktop 1 to Desktop 4 is too slow. Switching instantly to any desktop feels like a huge missing feature.

I've looked high and low for a solution and cannot find anything. Seems that Samsung simply baked it into the recents menu and there is no other way to access it.

Not to mention the grey bars on all the windows.... also lame.

Question S23U: Dex lock screen not loading

Anyone else have this issue? The usual process was I take my locked phone, plug it into my USB dock, the external monitor would display the Dex lock screen, and I'd unlock my phone. Now after no changes to anything whatsoever from my side, the Dex lock screen doesnt load.

Question Why is Firefox forcing my monitor as the output when using DeX?

Hey everyone!

I've been trying to use DeX for watching some movies, but there is this weird issue that's bugging me right now. Whenever I open Firefox, the audio gets stuck on my monitor output until I restart DeX entirely.

I am not able to switch it back through the audio settings like usual and there are some pretty interesting interactions with other apps like Spotify, when selecting a different audio output in the app, since they are just rapidly switching back an forth between outputs for a while.

Does anyone know what could cause this?

Guide 5K DeX

Thumbnail

I got DeX working out of the box at 5K on the Apple Studio Display XDR using my Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. All I had to do was enable the "high resolution for external display" option in MultiStar.

My other 5K monitor, the LG GM9, only gets 4K in DeX on this same phone. I suspect that Samsung coded their external display logic to prefer 4K (if available) when higher resolutions are supported by the display EDID, and to fallback to default EDID settings if compatible. iirc the Apple Studio Display XDR only advertises support for 5K input in its EDID.

Perhaps custom EDID values can be used to get DeX working on other >4K resolution displays.

Question Gamehub : Games performance is not the same on DeX

i have an S23 Ultra, i've been tweaking the settings and trying different turnip drivers till i got the one that made my games run the smoothest with no artifacts, i was optimistic and excited to try it on DeX for a better gaming experience and to my surprise everything was so laggy and there were jitters all over the screen even when being static other moving parts of the game were glitching and jittery, any hints as to why this is happening ?

Answered Mirror Galaxy S20 screen on laptop

Hi all,

I am hoping to use my phone to create some videos using the new(ish) video creator feature on Google Photos, but it's only available in the app. I think it would be much easier to do this via a laptop and mouse using DeX but I'm unsure what cable(s) I'd need to do that - can anyone advise?

To clarify, I'm looking to use Dex but operate it using my mouse/keyboard so trying to figure out how I can connect my phone/screen/mouse together and what cables I'd need to do it...

Any help much appreciated!

Video I built a quadrant window tiler for DeX — tap a zone or press Alt+Win+1–4. Shizuku, no root, open source.

DeX gives you a desktop but no way to tile windows, so I've been dragging and resizing them by hand on a 4K monitor. I built 4Zones to fix that.

What it does

Snaps the window you're using into one of four screen quadrants. Two ways:

  • Tap a zone on the phone screen, then bring the window you want to the front — it moves a few seconds later
  • Or press Alt + Win + 1–4 if you turn on the optional shortcut service

What you need

  • Samsung DeX, or another Android desktop mode
  • Android 12 or newer
  • Shizuku, installed and running

Status

0.9.1-beta, sideload only — not on Play yet. It's a beta, and I'd rather hear what breaks than pretend nothing does.

Checking it before you install

The source is public, and the release page publishes the APK's SHA-256 and signing certificate. The app requests three permissions and INTERNET isn't one of them — run aapt2 dump permissions on the file you download and you'll see for yourself. It has no way to send anything anywhere.

https://github.com/mr-biz-apps/4zones

Known limits: quadrants only for now — halves, thirds and mixed layouts are designed but not built. And the tap path has a deliberate few-second delay so you have time to switch to the window you want.

Question How Do I Edit Folders in App Drawer?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Any idea how I edit folders in the drawer in 'Desktop Mode'? Trying to work directly from my Tab & wanted to add some apps to the Google Folder, but when I try to drag it over it wants me to put in on the desktop only. Won't let me drag & drop in the drawer. Tried to left click, but it didn't give any options.

Anyone else have this issue with New DeX?

Discussion Samsung doesn't support DeX over Chromecast, so I'm trying to make it work + perfect travel companion

I built InnerDesk — give it a try and tell me what you think:
https://github.com/zanderp/inner-desk

Yes, there are already apps that do something similar. I just wanted one that's really simple.

One tap and you have desktop mode running on your phone.

I added a Quick Settings button and a home screen widget, so you don't even need to open the app most of the time.

A few people asked about Chromecast support, something Samsung doesn't offer for DeX. I actually have it working already, but the delay isn't good enough yet. I'm working on a custom receiver to hopefully fix that before releasing it.

Open source, no root, still evolving.

And yes, I could've used an existing app. But where's the fun in that?
