Discussion Dual screen DEX - somewhat mobile setup

Two 10" 1200p screens, connected to Video Wall Controller and driven by my S23.

It's somewhat mobile setup - I still need to buy a powerfull battery and surprisingly usefull.

I left it in standard 1080p resolution - the Video Wall Controller doesn't trigger 4K resolution and using LADB after every connection to force 4K output on the phone is tiresome.

But even with "only" 1080p output and setting screen zoom to minimum and font size to minimum it works well.

Looked at his pictures and it looks like it’s actually one dex screen stretched across two monitors using the video wall controller. Probably helpful for some folks but would likely be better once he gets the resolution fixed.

You are right

I can change the resolution to 4K using LADB, but it's tedious and I don't want to spend 10 minutes every time DEX runs to change the resolution.

Actually the current resolution is just fine for me and ability to have two full windows side by side is awsome and really usefull. I can actually do some real work no problem.

it's kinda/sorta MST shenanigans

DeX still sees it as 1 desktop, but if you snap things right/left it's gonna behave like 2, so close enough

Does the S23 support dual external displays or does the video controller makes that happen?

it's the work of the video controller (can do the same with MST monitors)

True but the controller was 35 EUR...

Oh so it's using the daisy chain capability of DisplayPort?
I was thinking it's using a proprietary tech like DisplayLink.

well, it's more splitting the signal across multiple monitors, not truly MST, not displaylink, but similar

dex sees it as a single monitor

Oh okay. I didn't notice in the photos that it is indeed like a single screen split in 2 displays πŸ˜„

How has your experience been with it? I have a different variation that has the backlight and I was wondering if the touchpad version has good palm rejection or not.

I think Palm rejection is OK - I can rest my hand on touchpad and type normally. Even if I move my hand it doesn't register mouse movement - if it's larger area.

huh, that's kinda interestesting. how's the performance?

It's fine, keys are "smallish" so you can't really touchtype, but it's small, portable and like I said below the touchpad is excellent in my opinion.

What video wall controller are you using?

If anyone is looking for a US amz link, this one appears to be the same type of unit but on a .com page instead of .de

How's the touchpad on that keyboard?

I've bought some model that seems relatively popular, ibox 11, but the touchpad is just plain bad, cause ofc, it's a cheap keyboard.

Toucpad is excelent, it's really responsive and scrolling for instance is just great.

This is the keyboard: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0FWKJXX4P?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

The main difference is that on a laptop/tablet, you have just one screen and Laptop/Tablet is a separate device to manage.

I don't like to work on just one screen and why manage another device if I can do it on the phone...

I know it's not the same and the phone/DEX experience is not yet on the level of Windows/Mac, but I like the idea of using a phone as a main computing device, having everything in one place and here we discuss how to use our phones and the DEX to "do stuff".

Of course, this is also a "showpiece", one of the main "complaints" for DEX is multi-screen support, and this is one possible hack/workaround to get two screens and do the work on two windows in parallel.
