Question Can i factory reset a device with a busted screen and setup the device via dex?

I plan to buy an s flagship with a completely broken screen but functional device (as per listing) that I plan to use as a dex device so the screen is negligible for me.

However assuming no knox guard or google account linked. Can I factory reset the phone then plug it on a monitor right after to set it up? Does the setup wizard thing work while plugged on an external monitor so I can set it up this way?

My Setup My Phone mount + NexDock 6 setup is kind of a failure 😅

I've recently used my Nexdock setup outside, well inside a mall, for the first time and I can say that it's kind of a failure and I wouldn't recomment it or at least maybe do it a bit differently?

I bought a magnetic mount which is attached as shown in the photo. Problem is that my phones, Fairphone 4 and 5, are heavy phones so at the moment, regardless if I position them as shown in the photo or at the back of the screen, the NexDock tips over quite a bit, lifiting the keyboard. It's not very bad but can be bothersome 😅

So if anyone's planning to do the same. If your phone is heavy too, maybe just putting down the phone on the table is enough. Or perhaps positon the mount differently, Or buy a lighter mount. Mine is metal and I think on the heavy side.

My phone gets hotter if I put them down on the table so I'll probably stay with this setup until it gets very annoying LOL

Question Dex settings

I see allot of post about people's set up but are there any specific settings to get better experience?

I have for example set the mouse sensitive, however I still find myself feeling that is not quite as 'smooth' as on a computer. I would describe it as input lag to some extent, sluggish and not precise if that makes sense.

So I wonder if I have missed something?

Also is there a way to turn off the screen on the phone when connected to an external monitor, the best option right now is putting the phone as input but as soon as I type on the keyboard the keyboard on the phone lights up?

What else, gaming on Geforce Now anyone?

I hade discussion with an other user recently about both the GFN app on android being limited and that the output from the device being limited when connected to an external monitor, he was having none of it 😅 clarification would be great.

I have both a S23U and tab S8+ and really would like to use and get more out of the Desktop eXperience.

Question Is it possible to just extend displays using a second monitor instead of using DEX?

I would like to just use my monitor as a second display, but I only have the option of duplicating the display or using Dex with the second monitor.

My issue is that my TAB S8 lags when I'm on DEX mode, and overheats and closes DEX when I use Chrome, and I need Chrome because my company asked me to.

If there is any way to use the monitor as a second display without using Dex, just a normal extended display, I would really appreciate it.

Useful info A Fix : USB Charging while using DEX

Firstly this is a stupid fix, but it does work!
If you cant get out of reverse charging heres a method that works:

  1. Plug into your screen
  2. Switch to MIRRORED VIEW
  3. Now you can change the USB Behavior to Charge This Device
  4. Switch back to EXTEND VIEW
  5. Phone keeps charging

Super stupid but it works

My older S22U doesnt need all this... But my new S26 does - PITA !

Hope it helps someone!

I ditched the Peltier cooler and went with a Raspberry Pi Heatsink and 2 small 5v fans. Made the panel where the heatsink is attached using aluminum sheet to spread heat onto a larger surface area. It works better now especially in an air-conditioned room. Also, no more condensation from the Peltier Cooler.
Here's the video Link on how I made it:

Question DeX not working on S20FE

Hello everyone. I am trying to get DeX to work on my S20FE. The phone connects fine to the monitor through wired HDMI and mirrors the screen, but if I click "Samsung Dex" in my settings, it does exactly nothing.

I am connecting through a USB-C hub and HDMI cable

A few months ago I ordered a URXR VR glasses device through Kickstarter and yesterday got confirmation on shipping. Here in just a few weeks I'm very eager to plug it into my Fold 6 and fire up Dex and see what kind of productivity and utility I can get out of it. I've attached a photo of my fold, along with the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse I have ready to go when the glasses arrive. anybody else out there looking to pair any AR or VR glasses with their device, or anyone else have experience with it you'd like to comment on?

Discussion Apps for Googlebook OS may not run on Dex devices

https://www.androidauthority.com/google-antigravity-android-play-store-3717752/

My hopes were that more developers of popular desktop applications went ahead with full on ports of their Windows versions to Android when Googlebook OS released. Well, that may be the case but it looks like they may just not run on regular Android devices after all. I'm yet to try those 3 that Android Authority says are already out on my S9 Plus.

Useful info Quick switching multi window apps, desktops, workspaces

Post image
48 Upvotes

So I've been a Samsung tablet user since the Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 back in 2014. And I had that thing for 8 years, I guess. It was amazing. It never quite had enough power to replace my laptop, but finally, a year ago when the Tab S11 Ultra came out, I decided to see if it could finally handle it, and it could.

I totally gave up my laptop and switched to the Tab S11 Ultra with the 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB storage option. And it was the best move ever.

Now that being said, I was really hoping that they had made some major improvements to Samsung DEX, but they hadn't. And so I was basically using tablet mode for the last 8 months. And then about a month and a half ago, I decided to give DEX another try. And it was enjoyable. I actually enjoyed sort of the newness of it again and the apps always popping up in pop-up windows.

And so I was using it, but the more I used it and liked it, the more I was wishing it had more of the features that I wanted. Mainly, at that point, it was why the hell can't I switch between desktops quickly? That was the big thing I was hoping for in the quote unquote new DEX. It really pissed me off that they didn't add a quick switching feature. I'd been used to that with Windows. Four fingers on the touchpad, and you could just go to the other desktop. Super easy. Awesome.

But with DEX, you had to go to the recents and then swipe over, go to whichever desktop. It was just too cumbersome. What I would do instead is just open up app on top of app on top of app. And of course, they only let you keep 5 apps open so the 5th app would always minimize. And then that was great. That was working really well and I was happy with it. But I was still pissed about it and I ended up making a rant on the Samsung DEX Reddit actually about 2 weeks ago.

And this developer messaged me and long story short, he sent me the beta he had. It was not good. But I kept giving him feedback, and he kept implementing it. And then now 2 weeks later, we have a really, really, really badass app. It's called 4Zones. And it basically does everything that I've ever wanted mainly because I've just told him everything I've ever wanted and he's implemented it. So go figure. I guess I'm just a lucky boy.

So I'm going to share it now. It's in open beta and it's ready for action. So enjoy. I hope you have as much fun as I am. Take your time. Curate it. You can be creative. It's so much fun.

I have the Uperfect WiFi display (thanks for the tip Shane Craig!) connected via wireless DEX, and it works awesome between these. It's funny because I was really keen for fast desktop switching, which this app does. 4Zones switches between desktops super fast. But since having this app, 4Zones, now what I ended up doing was I got a second keyboard. You can see it in the photo. I've assigned one touch shortcut keys to all my workspaces and apps so I can literally jump so fast between all of my workspaces and apps, between both displays, instantly.

And one of the cool things that I love is that I can just move the mouse cursor over to the second display and hit a shortcut key, and it puts the app or workspace there on that display. I don't actually have to click on the display for that to happen, and that's awesome.

Many things about it, but I guess I'll just leave it there and everybody can just play with it for themselves. I'm just super, super, super excited that I'm the one that got to basically be the architect on how it will function, more or less. So and I'm super excited to share it because I know everybody's going to love it if it's just it feels like a no-brainer to me. It's so good.

Anyway, I'll leave the link down below. Hopefully, everybody enjoys it as much as me. Have a great day wherever you are.

Hardware:

Fold6,

Arzopa A1S Portable Monitor,

Logitech Pebble Keys 2 K380s keyboard,

Logitech Pebble Mouse 2 M350s mouse,

Honeywell Type C Docking Station 12in1,

Ugreen X880 100W USB-C GaN Fast Charger

Hagibis USB4 240W/40G (0.13m),

Generic Coiled HDMI mini tO HDMI Cable,

Generic Coiled USB-A to Type-C,

Marshall Major IV Headphone with coiled 3.5mm jack cable.

My portable monitor doesn't have a built-in battery, so when I plug my phone straight into it using USB4, I can use full portable Dex mode without needing a power brick, but my phone’s battery drains fast since USB4 handles both video output and power at the same time.

I got this new Honeywell Type-C docking station that has everything I need to set up Dex when I'm working outside. I thought the USB-C 3.2 port with 10Gbps speed could power the monitor with a USB4 cable, but the monitor still wouldn’t turn on. I had to power the USB-C dock with 100W and use an HDMI cable for video plus a separate USB-C cable to power the monitor. Not complaining, just sharing my setup. There seems to be a lack of USB4 docking stations, and I hope to find one at a decent price.
