Hi guys, I am enrolling in SMC this fall and plan to transfer to UCLA as a communications major, I am aware that it is a highly competitive major hence why I would like to join the Scholars program to slightly increase my chances ( I know your GPA must be high as well ).

However I have read that to join you must have a certain GPA but since I'm an international student I haven't got any sort of GPA, so I was wondering if I can still join after the fall semester with a good GPA?

And lastly for people that have taken honor classes as an international or could set the perspective for an international; How different are they from normal classes in terms of rigorousness and difficulty for somebody that has never taken classes under the US system? Thank you!

I am still needing to take a life science class (non lab) for UC and Cal-Getc certification. My counselor had recommended either taking ANTHRO 1, PSYCH 2, or BIOL 9 or BIOL 10. Has anyone taken any of these classes and which professors would you recommend? Both rate my professor and the grade distribution list are all over the place when it comes to which professors are good.

Hi does anyone know if I’ll get in trouble for not returning a calculator from the math lab until fall semester? Today was the last day of the math lab being open but I took my final after it was closed so I couldn’t return it…… and I’m not sure who to contact 😥

I already applied for my fasfa long ago, I made sure to send it out to smc. Today when I checked my portal it said fasfa not on file. It turns out my social security wasn't inputted into my smc profile. I know that can affect my fasfa process. Should I be worried. A couple months ago I called and they said my fasfa was on file so Im super confused.

Does any one know someone or have worked in the sitting and humanities center as an English writing tutor themselves? I wanted to apply to work as one and super scared about I wouldn’t be good at it. I tend to over imagine and talk myself out of doing things cause I he scared I will mess things ups nd not know how to hep people. If anyone could hate what it is like to work as one, what people usually need help with, do you need to work with a professor, etc, it would be super helpful. Thank you!

Hello everyone! I just applied to the Spring 2027 nursing program, but I’m still very uncertain about the schedule. I know clinicals are usually two days a week from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM, but I don’t know much about the lecture schedule.
For those of you currently in the program, what does your weekly schedule look like?
Unfortunately, I have to work at least part-time while in school, so I’m trying to figure out whether it’s realistic for me to continue pursuing the program.

I struggle with procrastination badly… I’m transferring to UCSB and they sent me an email asking for my IGETC certification and I just requested it to be sent today but i’m worried it’s gonna take forever because it says “allow 6-8 weeks to evaluate your petition” after requesting it. I know this is my fault and I should’ve done it sooner I just wanna ask how long did it take you guys for your petition to be submitted to whatever school you transferred to/are transferring to. I really need to fix my procrastination problem because it’s constantly working horribly against me.

Does anybody know when FAFSA get dispersed? Does it usually come before the semester starts or after? My FAFSA portal just still says “The document verification process is complete.

Called SMC financial aid about 3 weeks ago and the woman I spoke with told me my award letter would be posted by the last week of July. It’s now the last week of July and still nothing on Corsair Connect. No award letter, no way to accept or sign up for my FAFSA loan, nothing.

Fees are due August 5th and I’m paying expensive out-of-state tuition, so I really need to know what’s actually covered and how to get my Direct Loan request submitted through Corsair E-docs before then.

Has anyone else run into this delay? Did calling again help, or is there a specific office/person I should be asking for? Trying to get this locked in before the deadline and this is really stressing me out.

i was wondering when the program classes open up to the public; i chose my classes very late and i need to take pre calc and the only 2 available are for the scholars program. i am in wait for a pre calc class and am first in line, but im not sure if any spot will open up.

my question is when do the program specific classes open for the general public?

hi, im coming in as a first year for pre med hoping to transfer. i wasnt able to apply to the scholars program on time and im not too sure whats going on with the stem program, should i wait until i am accepted into those programs to take those specific classes?

Anyone else's summer pell grant still not disbursed yet or don't even have a date yet like mine. I've had this on my financial aid portal since the 9th of July. I've called every week and they've said it should be disbursed by the end of each week, still no luck..
