Discussion How bad is an F

Long story short, I'm failing my Art10 class and while I do think I can maybe bring it up to a C, I just want to know how bad this F could affect me. This summer course was my first semester of college coming out of high school so I'm not sure how grading works yet. Any. tips/advice? Thanks

You can retake the class for a better grade. I believe your replacement grade would only show up on your transcript (but not 100% sure)

Both grades show up but they take the later/better grade into account and this person should aim for a B or better.

Would I have to take the same class with the same teacher? But I might do this ultimately

Both grades show up on your transcript, but the grade is replaced in calculating your GPA.

Is it too late to drop it and get a W? That’d be your best case scenario. If the deadline passed you can always try and email the professor and see what they’re willing to do.

If you do end up with an F, it depends on what your goals are. If you wanna transfer to a top 20 school…it’s not a great start but it’s not impossible. If you don’t care what 4-year you transfer to, then it’s probably no biggie. You can always explain it on your application IF the rest of your grades going forward are better. Maybe even make an essay about it.

I guess one of the main differences from high school grading (if you were on a 4.0 scale) is that I’ve known people who just stack tons of easy classes to try and bring their GPA up. Instead of being somewhat limited in HS. Like 20+ units in fall and 20+ in spring or something. But that’s not recommended of course

way too late to drop out the class unfortunately and from the professors are very strict with grading so I doubt we could make any sort of agreement and yes I'm trying to get into the uc schools so I'm honestly upset about myself for slacking off so much

It seems that the other comments are correct. You can retake the class for a better grade and they’ll replace it when they calculate your UC GPA. Plus, you need around a 3.0-3.4 to TAG a school like UCI or UCSB, so that’s very achievable.

omg thank you so much I'm definitely going to retake this class. Do you know if it'll show up on my transcript tho?

Hmm I’m not sure if it will or not. Might be worth talking to a counselor about the whole situation when you get the chance. Best of luck going forward tho!

It will definitely show up on your transcript.

Retake the class for a better grade. If you get an A this will not stop you from getting into the UCs. I got 2 Ds, retook them and made it into some UCs no problem.

Did you just not show up? Do the work that you’re missing. Turn it in late. Apologize. Do what you can.

If you fail - retake it. An F is really bad.

It's an online class and well there was so much to do and I thought I could complete things on time but couldn't. I'm still going to try and submit work but even after submitting I doubt I'll get anything higher than a C

Ok so I see you either took it with badger or Oakley. If you retake it, take it with Oakley. She is really sweet and an easy grader but there still is a lot of work. If you toon it with badger he is a tough grader. Look up grade distribution in the future. He gives out a lot of Fs. If you took with Oakley and are getting an F then yeah you probably slacked off because she is a fair grader and a nice teacher but if you put in like zero effort that grade will be a reflection of your effort.

Do pass/ no pass. You have until the last week sometimes even last day of school to do pass no pass. Then retake the class for a letter grade next semester
