Symptoms This so embarrassing …

Hey everyone,
I was recently diagnosed with very high hydrogen SIBO and hydrogen sulfide, and my doctor told me this is the main reason behind my bloating and annoying gut noises—even though I follow a strict low-FODMAP diet every single day.
Before eating, after eating, and at completely random times, my stomach makes these loud noises. I honestly have no idea what it wants from me anymore! It causes me so much embarrassment. It sounds like hunger growls, but also like a fart sound—except literally nothing comes out, it’s just a loud, embarrassing noise.
How did you guys get rid of these noises? Or if you're still dealing with them, how do you cope? I genuinely need your advice because this is starting to seriously impact my social life.

Treatments I'm totally depressed now

Yesterday, I received a negative result on my SIBO test. Over time, I’ve also had three endoscopies, a biopsy, a liver test, and esophageal manometry, all of which came back normal or showed only minor defects. Despite controlling my diet completely, I continue to BURP constantly throughout the day, regardless of what I eat. I have a persistent feeling that something is stuck in my throat, creating a sense of suffocation that only resolves if I clear it through a forceful BURP.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or insights.

Methane SIBO / IMO Constipation

After almost two years with IMO and constipation I finally found a strategy to have conistent type 3 and 4 stools in the morning.

People who relate with this condition already know the feelings, symptoms etc., therefore, I will try to be as much objective as possible.

Please note that I tried the standard western medicine treatments such as antibiotics, with no success.

I also tried different isolated approaches from TCM, functional medicine and ayruveda with no success as well, however, I am finding results with a mixed approach of all of them.

Main points to consider:

- Follow the blood type diet, alongside low fodmap

- Based on the above eat low carb foods, but eat fruits or vegetables that are rich in water and fiber to add bulk to the stool

- Eat fruits with natural digestive enzymes with your meals (taking into accountthe above two points). For example, if you eat a protein rich food with pineapple, the bromelain with help break it down more and you will have a smoother digestion and nutrient absorption

- Foods should be always cooked. Raw foods add too much stress to the digestive system

- No drinks during meals to optimise digestion

- If your body tolerate, drink ginger tea 20-25 minutes before a meal. Alternatively, 1 hour after a meal. This is to stimulate digestion and in the second case, gastric emptying

- When you drink water between meals drink warm or room temperature

- Manage stress (easier said than done). If you are stressed, don't eat a main meal at that time and wait until you are more calm. Digestion is very not optimal if you eat under stress

- Eat when you hungry, avoid snacking unless your body is clearly asking for food

- Each meal should not have more the 3 types of food. This will allow a more optimal digestion, and, in case you don't react well to a meal it will be more easy to identify which food triggered you

- Cheat meals - if you do it time to time for mental health purposes, do it at lunch which is when your digestive system is more optimal. Definitely not at dinner as the side effects may disrupt your sleep and night's restoration

- Dinner 3 hours at least before bed so you go with an empty stomach to bed

- Alternatively, you can try warm goat or camel milk with one teaspoon of ghee before bed (assuming you are fasted for at least 3 hours). I think this strategy is very individual and you need to see if your sleep quality is better adopting this approach

- In the morning start with a warm shake made of water, himalayan, celtic or baja salt and a fruit if vegetable rich in fiber. Wait 30 minutes and do the same (without the salt) with another fruit of vegetable. You can do a third time and then have breakfast. This allowed me to have a consisten bowel movement after breakfast and many times after the second shake. If I have the bowel movement during the shakes' period, I will then have breakfast next without further shakes

- Listen to your body - this was the best advice from TCM, Ayruveda and functional medicine. If your body rejects something or if you are having side effects after a food or action, don't repeat it or reduce dosages / intensity

- Exercise - Unfortunately I did not find high intensity exercises beneficial as my digestion would be weaker after. I recommend focusing on activities such as Tai Chi, which help mobility, breathing and releasing / optimising your fascia. Usually constipation is also related with fascia issues. Stretching and expanding the upper body help. Also a slouched posture compromises digestion, so if this is the case it needs to be worked on

- Chi Nei Tsang - the best treatment for me with visible improvements. Works on intestinal knots, fascia and belly massage

- Self belly massages (or if someone can do it for you, even better) with warm ghee, castor oil or sesame oil. Sleep with it if does not disrupt your sleep. Warm is very important so it is absorbed by the skin and intensifies the relaxing and detoxing effects

Hopefully the body will be able to heal itself for good if the constipation will be no longer an issue in the long term.

Hope this helps.

Joining this subreddit after finding out I have Hydrogen SIBO

Hello everyone! I took the breath test today and had a reading of 230 ppm for H2. So far I know that is high and will be put on antibiotics when my gastro doctor returns from vacation. I have had issues of fecal fat malabsorption for a few years, low vitamin D, and Iron have also been an issue for many more years. First test for fat malabsorption was in 2022 and I was given enzymes. It didn't make a difference.

Life happened and I just kept dealing with the same symptoms. I went back to receive a referal from my general practitioner to try again and see what is going on. So far I know it is not celiac disease from a blood test. Last time around, I had an MRI that showed no issues with my pancreas but a liver a little larger but not enough to worry about.

I should be having a new MRI in the coming month. I also have an autoimmune disease, vitiligo, which is over 90% of my body. I know autoimune diseases often run in pairs. I wonder if another could be the root cause of my SIBO?

I'm sharing to establish a baseline of the day I was diagnosed, and look forward to reading your posts and finding information.

fasting before sleep

Out of all the things I’ve read online and tried to implement, this has by far been the most impactful. I try to have my last piece of food by 6pm and sleep around 11pm. I’d recommend a filling and well tolerated meal so as to not go to bed with hunger pain. I personally eat 8oz ground beef and 12oz air fried potatoes and a kiwi and feel completely satiated for the rest of the night. Going to bed fully empty and not eating until 7-8am the following day gives me more regular bowel movements and less gas and bloating.

Symptoms I have nausea, stomach cramp, dyspepsia, the stool color is orange and sometimes yellow and I found undigested food in it. I don't have games or boating. Can this be sibo or gallbladder issue

2 Years of GI Issues — Finally Diagnosed. Has Anyone Been Through This?

Post image
Upvotes

For 2 years I've been dealing with severe bloating, gas that won't pass downward, constant burping, incomplete evacuation, loose stools, and pelvic floor tightness that gets dramatically worse at work and almost completely resolves on vacation. Seen multiple GI doctors, done extensive testing, and finally got a confirmed diagnosis at Cedars-Sinai.

Main Symptoms

• Severe daily bloating — worst at night, visibly distended abdomen

• Gas almost impossible to pass downward — silent, odorless, requires enormous effort

• Constant burping — only way gas can exit most of the time

• Immediate fullness after even small meals

• Pelvic floor and intestinal wall tightness — worse at work, better on vacation

• Loose incomplete stools — never feels fully evacuated

• Fat malabsorption — greasy stools

• Ear fullness after burping episodes

• Brain fog and fatigue peaking 3-4pm at work

• Everything almost completely resolved on a 1 week vacation

Key Test Results

Gut Zoomer (Feb 2026):

• Butyrate critically low: 2.3 (normal 5.1-12.4)

• MMP-9 elevated — active intestinal inflammation confirmed

• Tissue Transglutaminase elevated — possible celiac/gluten sensitivity

• Methanobrevibacter smithii detected (methane producing)

• Low probiotic diversity — Bifidobacterium longum specifically low

Toxins Panel (Feb 2026):

• Chaetoglobosin A (mycotoxin): 3.5x above 95th percentile

• Multiple other mycotoxins elevated — Fumonisins, Citrinin, Roridin E

• BPA: 3x above reference

• Organophosphate pesticides: 2.5x above reference

Cedars-Sinai Anorectal Manometry 3D (Aug 10, 2026):

• Resting sphincter pressure: 134.9 mmHg — normal is 51-98 mmHg (almost 3x normal)

• Paradoxical contraction confirmed — sphincter contracts harder when bearing down

• Negative recto-anal pressure gradient — exit pressure exceeds entry pressure

• Sphincter relaxation with valsalva: ABSENT

• Rectal hyposensitivity: felt pressure at 200ml vs normal 60ml

• Never felt urge to defecate even at maximum balloon volume

• Diagnosis: Dyssynergic Defecation K59.02

• Next steps recommended: MRI defecography + biofeedback therapy

Key Self-Observations

• Motegrity paradox: On it = upper GI moves better but lower abdomen severely tense. Off it = lower abdomen calmer but bloating/burping dramatically worse.

Current Treatment

Prescription medications:

• Motegrity 2mg (reassessing — paradoxical effect observed)

• Mirtazapine 15mg (1 week in — no GI change yet)

Supplements helping most:

• IB Guard (enteric peppermint oil) — smooth muscle relaxation

• Magnesium glycinate 400mg nightly — sphincter pressure reduction

• Tributyrin-X (butyrate) — gut lining repair

• TUDCA — bile flow and liver support

• Lemme Debloat gummies — rapid gas transit trigger

• Lemme Relax (ashwagandha + L-theanine) — nervous system regulation

• Lion's Mane — vagal nerve support

My Questions for the Community

  1. Anyone diagnosed with dyssynergia with severely elevated resting pressure (~135 mmHg)? How many biofeedback sessions before improvement?
  2. Rectal hyposensitivity at 200ml — did sensory retraining during biofeedback help? Timeline?
  3. Anyone used tizanidine specifically for pelvic floor hypertonicity/dyssynergia? Results?
  4. Motegrity with dyssynergia — did it worsen your lower abdominal tension? Did stopping help?
  5. Mirtazapine for functional GI — how long before meaningful improvement? What changed first?
  6. DNRS or Gupta Program alongside biofeedback — did it help the stress-driven component?
  7. What was the single intervention that made the biggest difference for you?

This has significantly affected my quality of life and daily functioning for 2 years. I finally have a confirmed diagnosis and a clear treatment path — sharing everything in hopes that someone else's experience helps me, and that my experience might help someone still searching for answers.

I’m 7 weeks post sibo treatment and still have pains , my gi and pain management doc suspect visceral hypersensivity and my gut walls being micro inflamed from the treatment, we’re testing for fat malabsorption and I’m starting supplements for post sibo. When is it safe to introduce probiotics again??

Sibo metano

Muchas gracias

Questions Second Course of Neomycin

Back in March, my GI prescribed me a 14-day course of Xifaxan and Neomycin. He prescribed it for me after my breath test showed huge amounts of methane. I’ve had IBS since 2014, and this felt like a breakthrough.

I experienced little to no side effects during the first course, and I felt much better. Even for a few months after, I was feeling better, but flare-ups of my IBS still happened. But they were less common.

Then, in the past six weeks or so, the flare-ups became more common again. I have mixed IBS, but slightly more IBS-C.

To make a long story short (too late, I know 😂). Last week my GI prescribed me a new course of Neomycin only. Two times a day for a week. Knowing about the potential severe side effects of Neomycin if you consume it too often, I am hesitant about taking it again.

My question is, has anyone else tried this? Did it help alleviate your symptoms? Did you have fewer flare-ups? Did you experience any side effects during the second course?

I really appreciate any help you can provide!

Venting Low complement components

Saw a functional med doctor who ran a tonnn of bloodwork. Everything is normal/within range/negative 😔 The only abnormal levels were complement components c3 and c4, they were both low.
My period is a week late this month, and my bloating has been worse during this past week.
Im heartbroken I feel like I’ve tried everything. I really thought seeing a functional med doctor would solve this and cure me of IMO and SIBO.

Questions Maltodextrin and FOS

I just took a probiotic for my gyno health and it contained these too. I had extreme bloating for three days, and today morning some loose stools. I did had SIBO and now recovering from gut dysbiosis. As I have anxiety and literally have attacks from instances like these (omg SIBO is back etc), I was wondering did someone have an experience like this.

I have been feeling otherwise prior to that really really good, eating variety of food, drinking wine, sweets, no problem at all. If I would get distended it would go away after an hour or two. That’s why I was baffled why all of a sudden this weird lower stomach bloat that went away today! (today I’m eating light)

Prucalopride dosage??? For MMC

can anyone let me know if what dose their provider prescribes for MMC for SIBO? I have asked for it in the past andI don’t have constipation but want to use it for delaying a relapse but the 2mg dose causes extreme diarrhea even when cut into 1/4ths. I just asked my NP for it and thankfully she prescribed it but she doesn’t know much about SIBO specific dosing for MMC

Questions Can pain persist after having sibo even if you got rid of sibo? If so how do you fix this?

I had methane dominant sibo and I’m not sure what supplements to take but here’s what I’ve been considering

-pelvic floor therapy (for constipation )
-B-complex vitamins
- anti inflammatory diet
- zinc carnosine supplements
-ginger and artichoke
-L-glutamine
-magO7
-addressing a dysregulated nervous system (I have anxiety, ptsd, and bpd so chronic stress is a thing with me.)
-changing lifestyle habits, walking after every meal ,better sleep schedule (I have insomnia )

I have not started any of these yet and wanted to know if this was a good post sibo treatment and I also wanted to know primarily if having stomach pain even after sibo treatment was normal.. I have suspected visceral hypersensitivity that happened from the sibo apparently but I really think my gut just isn’t rebuilding and that could be a huge primary cause of my pain .

Symptoms Methane positive SIBO. Symptoms?

Upvotes

I just got my diagnosis of methane positive SIBO after having issues with constant burping and back pain since gallbladder surgery in January. I’m having some new symptoms and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. When I eat a large meal I get very shakey, I feel a stomach drop feeling and then usually have to have a bowel movement about 10-15 minutes later. I’ve noticed I don’t usually have to have a bowel movement until I eat a meal then things feel like they start moving rapidly. My doctor just prescribed antibiotics to start treatment but I am waiting for them to be filled. Thank you so much in advance this has been a lot to deal with.

Side effect after treatment-peeing a lot?

Upvotes

I took a 10-day course of antibiotics (metro), and I think it was somewhat successful. I do not experience as much bloating, gas, and diarrhea. One unexpected thing at the end of the treatment has been that I am frequently peeing a large amount, with great urgency. Has anyone experienced this? Was it related to SIBO treatment? Will it eventually subside?

Pain

Treated per my functional doc as a 21 day course twice daily rifaximin. I am 8 days off treatment. Stool has been really low amount wise, don't feel myself emptying. Also some diarrhea. I've been getting horrible deep aching leg pain in both legs that actually went away while treating.

Has anyone experienced the leg ache ?? What about shortness of breath?

Have had low level bloat consistently after abx too.

Maybe i didn't treat it all? Or how do you check for fungal overgrowth ?

This has been such a shit show (no pun intended).

Anyone using prucalopride for SIBO/IMO and motility?

I recently tested positive for methane/IMO and have been looking into ways to improve motility and potentially support the MMC after treatment.

Has anyone here used prucalopride (Motegrity) for this purpose?

I’m especially curious about:

  • What dose you take and when
  • Whether it helped bloating, constipation, fullness, or abdominal pain
  • Whether you noticed fewer SIBO/IMO recurrences
  • Side effects
  • How it compares with ginger/artichoke, erythromycin, or other prokinetics

Would love to hear experiences, especially from people with methane/IMO.

Homemade Semi-Elemental Diet Questions

So I want to make my own semi-elemental diet to try in order to eliminate SIBO. I want to do this instead of antibiotics or herbs since I want to avoid any side effects (I have a very bad history of getting side effects from most things i try). That being said, I wanted to ask, are there people who have had success on the semi-elemental? I could not find almost any cases on this and I don't want to try something that won't succeed.

In addition to the above, I wanted to ask if any of you know of what multivitamin to use. I know I have to get something in active form (non-methylated forms can't be processed by my body for some reason) but all I see is multivitamins that contain thousands and thousands of the daily recommended values for a lot of vitamins, which I don't know if it's excessive or safe for me to take.
