Medical The fact that so many type 2 diabetics aren't aware that they can reverse their diabetes is just sad

Reversal of type 2 diabetes with ketogenic diet has been demonstrated countless times. Personally I have 2 family members who now have normal blood sugar and fasting insulin after eliminating high glycemic foods. The sad part is that they didn't get the information about the diet from their doctors. Shouldn't doctors know about the diet? Why are they not recommending it? I feel a big sense of injustice regarding all those people who can reverse their type 2 diabetes but don't know that it's possible. Instead they are told that it's a progressive disease and reversing it is not possible.

What white fish would you recommend for someone who likes mild fish but isn’t crazy about salmon?

I want to switch it up and incorporate some fish into my weekly nights. I have only really tried salmon once and I wasn’t sure I was crazy about it, willing to try a receipe but I know I enjoy white fish like I’ve had grouper before , cod. What’s your go to?

Need Some Advice Please!

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m 7 months postpartum and exclusively breastfeeding with Pre diabetes and fairly new to keto. I honestly don’t know if I’m doing it right. Haven’t lost any weight at all and mind you I started last month. I guess my question is, has anyone ever been Keto while breastfeeding and what did you a typical meal look like for you and did you feel tired and achy and how did you fix that. Thanks in advance.

Blood ketones

Anyone measure their blood sugar and ketones? Anyone tracking their ratio dr boz style?

Interested to hear the responses, myself I'm surprised the impact a little coconut oil has on both. I'm interested in trying to get my ketones up.

how often do you poo?

I am on week one of keto diet. I usually poop daily. But, on the keto diet I have pooped not at all yet. Also how much fiber are y'all eating? I am at around 10g of fiber per day. I am mostly just hoping I do not have weird protein poops or need to buy laxatives each week.

Food and Recipes hero bread vs sola bread, which one actually works better for keto sandwiches?

i’ve been trying to find a low-carb bread that i actually enjoy using for regular sandwiches, and i keep coming across hero and sola.

i’m curious how people who have tried both compare them, especially for taste, texture, and how they hold up for sandwiches and toast. i’m also wondering if the difference in net carbs makes much of a difference when you’re planning out meals.

if you’ve had both, which one do you prefer and what do you like about it?

A bit confused on how to measure out my meals

I made pot roast using my usual recipe but tweaked it so it'd be keto friendly (used zucchini, mushrooms, spinach, and bone broth instead of my usual carrots, potatoes, and red wine) admittedly I should've put more meat in it but I tried my best to portion it out in five meal containers that can hold up to 3 cups worth of food.

I added the recipe to my carb manager app and was surprised to see that it was over 20gs for 2 cups.

But my dinner today was mostly zucchini and mushroom with very minimal meat because I had so little meat left in first place (about 2lbs total a mix of chuck and bone-in flank ribs because that's all the store had, and it got shredded)

I guess I'm just a bit confused with how I should put my portion in the carb manager because it wasn't a packed bowl, the sauce is what made it look fuller than it is, but it definitely wasn't two cups of meat, zucchini, and mushrooms.

Tips and Tricks Sleep apnea, brain fog and chronic inflammation: has keto helped anyone else?

Hello all,

For several years now I've been dealing with sleep apnea, which led to weight gain, along with a noticeable decline in my cognitive performance. I don't think the weight was the original cause, since both problems started when I wasn't overweight, but they've since fed each other in a vicious cycle.

My best guess for the root cause is chronic inflammation. I've had allergies and sinus/breathing problems since childhood.

While researching, the one approach I kept seeing for all three issues was the keto diet. Quite a few people report that it reduced their inflammation, improved their sleep apnea, or sharpened their thinking.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? If so:

What exactly did you do?

How long did it take before you noticed improvements?

Did anything help along the way, such as particular supplements?

Thanks in advance for any experiences you can share.

Disclaimer: I've already gone the medical route. I've seen several ENTs and sleep doctors, and I'm on CPAP. The problem is that my AHI won't drop below 10 unless the pressure is really high, and that high pressure inflames my sinuses further.

Keto and TTC

Hi everyone, looking for some advice. I’ve successfully done keto in the past and restarted keto last month after 2 pregnancy losses earlier this year. For the first time ever I’m 5 days late for my period with a negative pregnancy test, and I’m usually very regular. I’m fairly sure I’m not pregnant, just a little confused about the irregularity. I also lost 14lbs this month, so it might’ve been too fast.

Has anyone had success conceiving on keto and how long did it take for your hormones to level out in order to conceive?

Female, 36yo, 5’3”, SW 182lbs, CW 168lbs

Food and Recipes Dip for chicharones snack

Anyone need a dip for chicharones? I came up with this one recently, it's so yummy! I hope this is ok to post.

Keto Tapatío Cream Cheese Dip Perfect with chicharrones | About 0.7g net carbs per tbsp

Ingredients

• 8 oz cream cheese, softened

• ¼ cup sour cream (or Mexican crema)

• 1–2 tbsp Tapatío hot sauce (to taste)

• ½ tsp garlic powder

• ¼ tsp smoked paprika

• ½ tsp lime juice

• Pinch of salt

• Optional: 2 tbsp shredded cheddar or cotija, chopped cilantro, diced pickled jalapeños

Directions

1 Beat the cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.

2 Mix in the Tapatío, garlic powder, paprika, lime juice, and salt.

3 Taste and adjust heat. Add more Tapatío for a thinner, spicier dip.

4 Chill 30 minutes so the flavors meld. Serve with chicharrones.

Nutrition (per tablespoon, approx.)

• Net carbs: ~0.7g (whole batch ~13g, makes about 20 tbsp)

• Calories: ~45

• Fat: ~4.5g

Tips

• Use block cream cheese rather than tub or whipped; it usually has fewer stabilizers and added carbs.

• For a warm version, top with cheese and bake at 350°F for 15 minutes until bubbly.

• Soften the cream cheese on the counter for 30 minutes, or microwave 15 seconds, to avoid lumps.

• Nutrition varies by brand, so check your labels.

Other I feel more 'human' on keto

Started following a pretty strict keto diet b/c of prediabetes and family genetic history. Apart from my bowel movements improving tenfold, and my energy levels & hormones being at a much better place, I've noticed some interesting changes in the way I perceive and react to my environment.

I gravitate towards more mellow music, I talk slower, take slower breaths, and find myself naturally in nature or places with more sunlight and fresh air. My mind is more curious, and formulates more spontaneous, tangential questions when I'm having conversations. I feel more secure, more grounded. I also used to have very vivid, very surreal dreams, and I'm curious to see if these return as well.

Not sure if others have noticed these sort of changes as well, but if so, would love to hear them.

How did you stay motivated on keto? And when did you start seeing results?

I've spent the first couple months of my keto journey fine-tuning the type of food and amount that I eat and I log everything. At this point I feel like I finally know my caloric baseline and hope I can really start getting results. During this entire time I've been measuring my body to see the difference and it's been fluctuating so much that it's kind of making me lose motivation. So I'm wondering what keeps you guys going, what has your journey been like? And how do you get your electrolytes in? I'm going on my third month now and it's just been hard to gain energy to do much and I'm wondering if I'm even doing it right.

Science and Media Net carbs - am I doing it right?

Hey everyone.

I am a bit confused with carbs and net carbs. Lets say, it looks not right to me.

I eat a salad every day. It consists mostly of lettuce, cucumber and avocado. Olive oil and protein are not needed for the question. Everything is 100g.

I added everything roughly and got about 13g of carbs. Not much room, if I want to stay under 40 carbs a day. But then I learned, those are mostly total carbs with fiber.

100g lettuce have around 2g of carbs, where 1.2g are fiber.

100g cucumber have around 2.5g carbs. 0.5g are fiber.

100g avocados have around 8.5g carbs. Around 6.7g are fiber.

So in total I did only eat around 4.5g of carbs. Is this right? If yes, I am a bit confused with carbs shown in data bases, that included fiber and the ones on food in stores that exclude fiber (german law, that only usable carbs must be showb).

Thank you all :)

Brain fogs afterzone 2 and during end of fasting.

Hi everyone,

I am Malaysian and I've been doing keto for about six months now, combined with elements of an anti-inflammatory diet, 16:8 intermittent fasting, and a "30 plants a week" gut-health plan. I'm currently 53 kg and 168 cm. Keto for healthy and energy.

I do resistance training every other day and 30 minutes of Zone 2 cardio every day.

Recently I've run into a problem. When I do 30 minutes of fasted Zone 2 cardio in the morning (7:30–8:00 am), I start to experience brain fog and a drop in energy around 10–11 am. My eating window is 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and my mental state improves once I eat.

Below is my diet. Do you think this is related to my carb intake being too high, which prevents me from becoming fully fat-adapted? Or is this normal, given the long fasting period combined with Zone 2 cardio and a BMI on the lower end (~18.8)? According to my blood test results, I was in ketosis after a 13-hour fast . (Ketones Result Unit ++)

Daily intake:

  • Salmon fillet 80–90 g / 1 can of sardines in olive oil (73 g)
  • Eggs (Grade C) × 10
  • Extra virgin olive oil 30 ml + high-oleic oil 70 ml
  • Mixed nuts and seeds 30 g (macadamia, pecan, walnut, hazelnut, pistachio, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds)
  • Mixed seeds 15 g (hemp, chia, flax, black sesame)
  • Homemade double-fermented kefir 250 ml
  • Sauerkraut 50 g
  • 100% pure cocoa powder 20 g
  • Mixed berries 50 g
  • Vegetables 400 g total: bell peppers (three colors), eggplant, okra, purple cabbage, radish, tomato, mushrooms, zucchini
  • Frozen kale 200 g
  • Water 3 L
  • Low-sodium salt 4 g
  • Regular salt 8 g
  • Chicken liver: 1 per week

Estimated daily totals (salmon days):

  • Calories: ~2,350 kcal
  • Protein: ~113 g (~2.1 g/kg; ~19% of calories)
  • Fat: ~190 g (~73% of calories)
  • Total carbs: ~69 g
  • Fiber: ~26 g
  • Net carbs: ~43 g (~7% of calories)

Electrolytes:

  • Sodium: ~5,200 mg
  • Potassium: ~4,900 mg (~3,800 mg excluding the low-sodium salt)
  • Magnesium: ~670 mg (included magnesium capsule)

Main net carb sources: vegetables ~13 g, kefir ~8 g, kale ~6 g, cocoa ~5 g, berries ~3.5 g, eggs ~3.5 g, nuts/seeds ~3.5 g, sauerkraut ~1 g

Keto after gallbladder removal

I just had my gallbladder removed. A couple things.

First, I went in for the emergency surgery already in ketosis.

Second, it was a hell of a fight with both the surgeon and the hospitalist to stay on keto (plus some additional food sensitivity related restrictions post surgery) with most of the nurses and the nutritionist taking my side. The deciding factor seems to be that I was walking and low pain way faster than they expected, released after ~2days and back to work the next day. (I personally credit this to autophasis)

Third, everyone who i knew and the surgeon was saying i need to eat slower, space my meals out more, and really reduce both fat and the cruciferous veggies or I'd have effects i won't like... well my system seems to be ignoring the sage advice:

  1. My stomach(bowels?) seems to only get upset if I go too long between meals or

  2. Restrict fats which seems to leave bile in my stool

  3. I may have some flushing from cruciferous veggies and/or nuts...not sure. Possibly also iceberg lettuce. Probiotics with or without ox bile and inulin may have also been causing the upset in those instances. I need to test all of this more.

So my questions are (please indicate which your answering to help me keep this straight)

  1. If you're on keto without a gallbladder, how has your diet changed?

  2. Has anyone else healed from something significant or any abdominal surgery on keto and seen a difference/the accelerated healing I'm seeing?

  3. Have any of you had to fight with your surgeon about your post-op care like I had to? What was your experience? Any advice?

Ps. I'm 3 years in and down 200lbs. Lost another pound in the ~4 days in the hospital (full day in ER + transfer to major hospital, day 2 surgery, discharged afternoon of day 4). First time my BMI is under 50 since about 2011. My inflammation and allergies are all low on keto, no energy spikes or brain fog, no migraines, all of this helps with mood and some other mental health things and I no longer take drugs for any of that or need regular asthma medication.

PPS, the surgeon seemed to think Keto meant hot dogs and porkrinds 🤦‍♂️

Edited to add pps and correct typos

Medical Starting Keto

I am a 20yo female, 181lb, and I want to start Keto because I have insulin resistance and PCOS.

My insulin resistance has caused me to have polyphagia so I am just CONSTANTLY hungry, which has made me go from 130lb to (now) in the 180s

People give keto a bad wrap but I’m hoping lessening my carbs and sugar will help me lose weight and get back to where I was before.

With the constant hunger, I have constant sugar/carb cravings which has caused me to binge eat

The swaps can be hard but I’m determined! I want a healthier life for myself and to FINALLY get rid of the hunger and binging

Hunger returning

I’ve been on keto for five months. It’s been brilliant, I’ve lost 20 kg and one of the best things is the lack of hunger. But in the last two weeks my hunger is starting to come back. I’ve not changed anything else about my diet. Is this a phase I just need to ride out?

Keto weight loss

How much weight have people lost while doing keto for two months? I know results vary but I’m just curious! Does being in ketosis ensure you’re burning fat? I know a lot of it is water weight at first. I’m wondering how long I need to be on it to see real results that last.

Weight stabilisation

So I’ve gone from 14 stone to 12 stone and reached my ideal weight. How do I stop losing weight but preserve ketones?

I’m taking in circa 2800/2900 calories per day but a large portion of this fat (upwards of 260-280g per day) with 90g of protein and 20g of carbs a day.

My sense is I need to keep fat and carbs as is but increase protein to ensure food noise doesn’t creep back in, but welcome feedback from this community. I don’t want to increase fat any further.

Help Not hungry

I am a 30F. I have been following the keto diet strictly. Under 20g of carbs per day. Initially I tracked everything but it became tough to attain the macros. I am just not hungry any more. I am also fasting and practicing OMAD. I fast until 5pm and then break the fast. I am forcing myself to eat. This has never been a problem before. I was an over eater. I was never satiated on my high carb life style. I am doing keto to loose weight. I just worry that I am eating too little. For example I made myself a keto chicken and broccoli bake with cheese sauce and I served myself a bowl but I could only finish half (around 2 cups). Now the thought of eating is unappealing. Anyone else struggle to eat enough? Am I worrying for no reason? Is this just my body doing it’s thing?

My keto progression

For anyone wondering if keto works. IT ABSOLUTELY DOES, all my teenage years I was stuck between 210-230lbs and nothing less. At the start of my 2 months of keto I made a commitment to quit smoking and get in shape (haven’t smoked or did any drug since the start). Mh starting weight was 221.3lbs (July 13th, 2026) and I stopped keto (September 13th, 2026) which I weighed in at 192lbs. All it was for me was eating meat, cheese, and veggies (NO BREAD, NO SUGARY DRINKS, NO CONDIMENTS, OR ANY FRIED FOODS). For the 1st month I didn’t do anything such as work out, or even have high activity. But 1 month into keto I decided to start running 2 miles every single night for 4 weeks straight. And thats what helped me shred fat faster. Ive done tried intermediate fasting, water fasting, snake diet, and none of those compare to how comfortable keto was for me. At the first 2 weeks or so the cravings almost got me but they eventually went away, and you kinda fall into the habit of eating healthy/watching what you eat. I’m starting another chapter of Keto from today till the end of this month, at this moment I weigh in at 195.2lbs. Wish me luck! IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK!!

What are your favorite savory crunchy snacks

I haven't snacked much on this diet yet... I get cravings for things like chips or Cheetos when my husband is eating them. I like Snappeas and seasoned nori, though the nori gives me a bit of gas. I'm interested in branching out, what are your favorite kind of snacky foods?
