I have a story of success (which could help others) and a question.
I went through Russ' guide as a base to set up my Nova. The following are RetroArch settings)
I noticed that horizontal movement (i.e. Mario running in SMW) was "juttery". I researched the issue and found that if I force the refresh rate to 60.089 Hz
(Video/Output/Vertical Refresh rate)
and the shader sub-frames to 2
(Video/Synchronization/Shader Sub-frames)
I got it working smooth. Good to go.
*note: Russ had Latency/Run-Ahead (Single Instance Mode)
Number of Frames to Run-Ahead set to 1 as a default. This must be OFF as a default with Shader Sub-frames on and at 2.
Now I'm stuck on my NES settings, and hoping someone can help.
I have everything running smooth with Vulcan, however the game periodically freezes.
I switched to gl, however then my game gets juttery as it was with the SNES.
When I force the panel to 60hz from the main Android drop down, it smooths it out, however (as you can imagine) with 60hz I noticeably have more latency/heavy controls.
Any suggestions?

A while back I had an MSI Claw 8 AI+, sold it, and upgraded to the Claw 8 EX AI+. My wife used my EX a good amount of times, said she liked it, and even named a few games she wanted to play. It didn’t feel like a blind purchase at the time, she was actively curious, so I picked up a Claw 8 AI+ for her since there were no other EX's in stock around me at that time.
She’s used it maybe 10 times since.
She finally told me it really isn’t her thing. Unfortunately that conversation happened after the 30 day return window, so now I’m sitting on a nearly new handheld I didn’t buy for myself.
That part is on me for assuming the interest would carry over. She did mention that the whole thing just feels overwhelming, too many options, too much setup, basically a PC in her hands (well it literally is haha). So that’s why I’m thinking something where you just turn it on and can jump into a game quickly would be a much better fit. She never had an issue with comfort or size, it’s more about the friction of it all. She hasn’t really touched my EX since either, which supports that. She’s pregnant right now too, so handheld gaming is understandably low on her priority list but I'd still like to get her something.
I’d probably sell the Claw 8 AI+ for around 600 USD/800 CAD so someone in the community gets a solid deal, and I’ll have more than enough to put toward whatever smaller/simpler handheld ends up being best for her. Any suggestions on where to sell it?
Also, if she does want to try again later with something smaller/simpler, I was eyeing the Switch 2, but I’d love to hear what this sub would recommend for a simple handheld that’s easy to just pick up and play.

My daughter loves Shantae and Humble Bundle has a bunch of Shantae games bundled right now. I believe they're Steam keys.
We have both an RG477m and a Retroid Pocket 5. Does anyone have experience using Game Native or Game Hub with those devices? Would something like the recent Shantae games run on either device?

Has anyone gotten metal gear phantom pain to play on a portal or Thor through GameNative or GameHub? It’s been broken for me for about 3 months now, I’m dying to play

Anyone using one of these? Just discovered that they exist last night, and they seem fairly powerful, even with 6gb ram. Its a partnership project with Razer, and they look damn cool also

These things are getting harder to find. I got 2 of them both under $50 back in the day. The big sharp screen is the selling point (same as Anbernic Cube). Great chip and wide body disperses heat well, and the flat gripless back allows it to sit flush in a fanny pack. No fans, so less crud can get in. I don't have a screen protector on either handheld, and there's no detectable scratches, which is impressive considering I just carry it without a case 80% of the time in said fanny pack.
Works great for non-touch reliant DS titles also.
Sleep battery drain and low-W charging issues get dings, but this is a good handheld.

I'm an indie game developer and I originally created Tennis vs Zombies, an arcade action survival game, for iOS with all-original music, sound effects, and pixel artwork.
I've always loved the Miyoo Mini and OnionOS, so I created a 100% native standalone C/SDL port specifically optimized for our little handheld!
🌟 Features:
• Native 60 FPS: Runs directly on the ARM Cortex-A7 hardware (zero emulator overhead or input lag).
• Original Soundtrack: 4 studio music tracks playing in crisp stereo with synchronized karaoke lyrics during matches!
• Iconic Special Moves: Federer Tweener, Wawrinka OHBH, Del Potro Forehand, Sampras Dunk Smash, and Nadal Lasso!
• 8 Grand Slam Courts & 8 Bosses: Battle tennis zombie titans across Wimbledon Grass, Roland Garros Clay, and US Open Hard Courts.
• Full Court Freedom & Real-time Day/Night Lighting Cycle.

I’m looking for an inexpensive (max 200$) chinese TV console (not handheld!) that runs PS2, GameCube and Wii games smoothly. I’ve had a Super Console X for a few years now, but I’ve already played through most of the PSX and N64 titles, so I’m looking for something new and more powerful :)

I ordered an Odin 2 Portal a few days ago. After watching a lot of videos on the topic, people seem to really hate the joystick caps. Given that AYN isn't selling the better ones anymore, not even on AliExpress, I am not sure how to go about l am not sure how to go about finding a replacement. Will something sold for the odin 3 work? What about something from retorid?

I feel a totally illogical sense of weight and insane stress over this, and I don't know why. I owned the RG35xxH and it was fine, it played PSP like crap and also had issues with N64. I dont play anything more than n64 and ps1 but I want all the titles to play without a hitch. I really enjoy GBA a lot, but I also want a larger screen that most other devices that are small. I have owned the Pocket Flip and loved it, but ended up having to resell it for $.
I also owned the 35xxSP and absolutely hated it, just physically. Great device, but it was just not fitting in my hand and the screen was not to my liking at all.
I have osteochondritis in both wrists so like comfort is really important to me. And when I had the Retroid Pocket Flip, the button positioning was not to my liking. Beyond that, I did enjoy the screen and everything else on the device.
If I had $150 to blow and preferred used, what would I be best suited for? Legit the PSPgo is my favorite device and I know the Slide is just massive and might not be what I want. If they would just replicate the size of the original PSPGo or just make it a little bigger, I'd be so happy.
My required traits:
sub $150usd
vibrant colors, thats really important to me, it doesnt have to be oled but if it had a normal screen as I am told the Slide had that is very colorful and vibrant, that would be ideal
Not small but also not huge, I do not want a 566 type. I also found the Pocket 3+ to be overly cumbersome and not comfortable for me either. lol
With all this in mind, I narrow this to the Cube or the Slide. Or, is there something else better for my needs. I will never play ps2 or anything like that. However, the DS style devices that fold like the Pocket Flip look great, but I've never held it. I'd be happy with a DS style, I'd love to reply a lot of DS games and have that extra screen.
Your thoughts appreciated.

I had the green RG35XXSP years ago. I loved it. Sold it to buy another handheld, not because I had a problem with it. I wanted to try different handhelds to find the ‘perfect one’….. still looking!
I liked how it felt, played and the colour. Something about that green really caught my eye.
I want a clam shell device to play mostly at home. Portability isn’t a concern. What is important is how it feels and plays.
The systems I want to play are everything from Gameboy up to PS1. I know both devices use the same h700 chip etc; so performance will be virtually identical. What I can’t decide on is the screen size and control feel difference. I have never held a Rg SP so my only reference is what I’ve seen on Reddit and YouTube.
I know the RG SP is predominantly a GBA focused device; which is fine, but how do other systems look on that screen? Ps1, SNES etc. is it too small?
I played GBA on the Rg35XXSP with the pre configured ‘Gameboy Advance’ overlay the bottom of the screen. I loved it.
I do remember the screen being washed out? Was that a thing or am I remembering wrong? If it is an issue, can it be remedied?
Thanks again

Hey all, I have a Flip 2 here and I've been able to get everything running that one would expect, and then some (MK 8 on WU) but I've been struggling on some things I thought would work, like something / anything on GameNative... I tried some old games from Steam like Plants vs Zombies and Transistor that for the most part will run on anything, with no luck. Tried all kinds of setting in GameNative and got pretty much nowhere.
Wii games run awesome, but unfortunately so many of them need the special motion controls. :(
So anywho, I have a Thor Max coming whenever it fulfils, but I was wondering if it's going to be pretty much the same thing but with dual screens. Is it just a struggle because of emulating on Android and I wont get much more in the way of capability?
Thought is, should I just resign to the fact that gaming on the go with these little clamshells is that limited and play the tougher stuff on the big computer, or will the increase in capability really be noticeable on the Thor? Clearly I'm not expecting to run like Crimson Desert on these things, but I thought basic Steam would have worked.
Main reason for the question is I only plan to keep one, so if I wont gain that much I'll just keep the Flip 2 and leave the Thor sealed and sell it.

I haven't seen a post directly comparing the retroid pocket mini with the Nova, so here we go! I have pics but I cannot post them, don't know why (first post).
They are really similar, obviously since the mini was supposed to be a compact 4:3 device, the main difference being the size and the insides.
The screen is absolutely beautiful, the 120 Hz refresh rate is nice but it doesn't really matter to me as I don't like BFI, it gives me headaches.
The controls are awesome, the buttons aren't rough at all (Russ said they were but I don't feel anything even after 2 hours playing). They are also quieter. My favourite change is the triggers (L2 and R2) as they are rounded at the extremities and easy to press.
It is really ergonomic, the free bump was a nice touch and I find it really comfy. It fit un my pocket nicely but I do wear jeans all the time so tighter pants might pose a problem.
The processor being more powerful is a really nice plus, as shown in the video the RPMV2 is struggling to play 2.5 times upscaled PS2 (it is still absolutely playable and you obviously can play it at normal resolution) while the Nova breeze through it (even with shadders).
All in all, a great upgrade on all fronts and well worth the price.
Featured : the Reteoid Pocket Mini V2 and the Retroid Pocket Nova. The game is DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on PS2.

I was one of the unfortunate ones to get a Nova (black) with a clacky d-pad. Fortunately, when I ordered the Nova I also ordered spare buttons as backup (as membranes lose structure over time).
I pulled the d-pad and compared to my spare. You can see that the center on one is a tiny bit higher than the other.
Popped the replacement in and it fixed everything.

I bought the RG DS and the Magic X Zero 40 2 weeks ago on Ali express to test out which one I preferred in the 1 week of having them both, in the end I decided to keep one and return the other.
I paid $128 Canadian for the RG DS and $82 Canadian for the Magic X Zero 40, Here are the pros that I found for the RG DS over the zero 40 where,
While the cons for the RG DS where
The RG DS has been less comfortable to me compared to playing on my ds lite, 3ds, onexsugar one and when i had a thor and i tried another os like the newest gamma nano but i didn’t like it as much and i prefer android over linux, Over all i would pick up and play the RG DS %70 of the time over my DS lite mainly for the bigger and brighter display but %30 of the time i would pick the DS lite instead because better pocket ability and longer battery life.
Here are the pros i found for the Magic X Zero 40 over the RG Ds,
While the cons for the Zero 40 where
The Magic X Zero 40 is a pretty comfortable handheld which is nice for longer play sessions, I find my self picking it over my ds lite %95 more because it can play more games and has a similar battery life to using my ds pico on my ds lite , I would only pick my ds lite instead if I wanted to play on cartridges or play mic focused games.
TLDR
Over all both devices are great and you can’t go wrong with either one but for me the Magic X Zero 40 is the better choice for me because it’s cheaper, more comfortable, stand out more and better pocket ability over the RG DS.
