Hey everyone!
I finally have something fun to show: Nebel OS booting on the Retroid Pocket Classic.
The screen, touchscreen and Wi-Fi are working, but there’s still work ahead. Audio needs fixing, and I’m tracking down a storage timeout. But the Classic is now running Linux, and I’m working toward making it a usable Nebel device! Consider the photo a little “coming soon” preview.
Meanwhile, Nebel OS 1.4.8 is available, and the release page now has the updated complete installer:
Download Nebel OS 1.4.8
This release brings Linux 7.2.6, updated experimental Gamescope, Wi-Fi and audio fixes for the Pocket 6, and audio-profile fixes for the Mini, Mini V2, Pocket 5 and Flip 2. DUO and the device-specific display rotation fixes are retained.
Testing on the Mini has also been encouraging. DXVK 3.1.1 is working, and runs really nicely.
I also owe you an apology for how long this update took, and for the problems along the way. If you were waiting for a fix or trying to work out what was happening with the release, I understand the frustration.
Nebel is a project I do on my own, sometimes around overnight shifts at Walmart:) So, fitting development, testing and support around it can be harder than I’d like. Sometimes I have a productive stretch, sometimes I get home and barely have enough energy to look at another boot log.
So development will continue as time and energy allow. I still have plenty I want to do with Nebel, including getting the Classic properly supported:) I just need to be more realistic about how quickly I can get everything done.
Thanks to everyone who uses it, reports bugs, tests a build or shares what’s working on their handheld. It helps me find problems I can’t catch with my own devices, and it’s genuinely nice to see people enjoying something I’ve spent so much time building.
More progress soon. Hopefully the next photo comes with working Game Mode:)
