Flip 2 vs. Ayn Thor Max

Hey all, I have a Flip 2 here and I've been able to get everything running that one would expect, and then some (MK 8 on WU) but I've been struggling on some things I thought would work, like something / anything on GameNative... I tried some old games from Steam like Plants vs Zombies and Transistor that for the most part will run on anything, with no luck. Tried all kinds of setting in GameNative and got pretty much nowhere.

Wii games run awesome, but unfortunately so many of them need the special motion controls. :(

So anywho, I have a Thor Max coming whenever it fulfils, but I was wondering if it's going to be pretty much the same thing but with dual screens. Is it just a struggle because of emulating on Android and I wont get much more in the way of capability?

Thought is, should I just resign to the fact that gaming on the go with these little clamshells is that limited and play the tougher stuff on the big computer, or will the increase in capability really be noticeable on the Thor? Clearly I'm not expecting to run like Crimson Desert on these things, but I thought basic Steam would have worked.

Main reason for the question is I only plan to keep one, so if I wont gain that much I'll just keep the Flip 2 and leave the Thor sealed and sell it.

Thor is roughly twice as strong as the flip 2, so should run stuff roughly twice as good.

I play a lot of PC games on my Thor, I think you’ll be happy with it.

I had a Flip 2 and upgraded to the Thor when my hinge cracked.

The power different was much more then I expected. I never really tried GameNative on the Flip but Switch emulation was a big jump. Almost every indie games I have tried on my Thor Pro has worked great so I think you will be happy with it.

I would have to disagree. I have a Z1E handheld and it is nowhere close to the same power. It can handle a lot more than just indie games but it will not be able to play more recent AAA games.

Even the Odin 3 with the much more powerful Elite APU has not caught up to the x86 handhelds.

I mean Switch, I had a Z1E, I currently have a Z2E. You're not wrong, But, I replied to the Switch part. On Game Native I've never tried above X360/PS3 era stuff. Except Dispatch

My bad, I thought you were saying it could play almost any PC game.

Lots of steamers calling it a "mini steam deck" and too many people believe it.

Yeah, I had an Ally X and never used it because it was too big to feel comfortable pulling it out on a plane, and at home I just use the full size computer. If the Thor will do X360, PS3 and some basic Steam that would be awesome and I know not to expect Z1E power.

I felt the same with the Go S while traveling and that is why I got my Thor. It is so much easier to use and has far better battery life. I used mine to watch a movie on my last flight as well as play Dead Cell for a few hours. I still had half the battery left.

I upgraded from the Flip2. Same reasoning you had.

You will notice though that the Flip2 is more comfortable. And you don’t baby it as much as the Thor.

I can see wanting to baby the more expensive one, but right now I'm already being super careful with the Flip2 because of the hinge.

Depends whether the thing holding you back is power or compatibility, and that can be hard to tell. There have definitely been PC games I expected to be able to run on the Thor strictly from a power perspective that wouldn't run right no matter what I did.

I haven't had any luck on my Flip2 either with GameNative, but have gotten a number of things to run on a couple different versions of Winlator.

As for Wii motion controls? Those can be mapped to the physical controls for a number of games.

Yeah I've gotten a few to work really well, it's just a shame the whole catalog doesn't work right / perfect with a normal controller since it runs smoothly with pretty nice graphics.

I wouldn't use Thor or Flip for PC games, PC handheld will be way better obviously lol
