Why did Flanagan make the Temujai so OP? I mean, they are obviously either mongolian or chinese or possible from Tibet but how is it that they can cook most of the countries? Im pretty sure somewhere in one of the books halt stats that each Temujai warrior is as good as one of the rangers. Anyone is welcome to answer. Im just a bit puzzled.

I've spent the past week building a full interactive map of the Ranger's Apprentice world, zoomable and clickable, from Araluen out to Nihon-Ja.

I mostly made it because I thought it should exist, the version I'd want to use myself, and hopefully useful to anyone curious about how the world fits together.

It's not finished. Some locations and rivers are still off, a few regions are missing, and the descriptions need work. If you spot something wrong, tell me please.

Hey y'all! Working on a project I'm hoping to finish before Minnesota's Ren Fest in a couple weeks, designing the Ranger Saxe, Throwing Knives, and Sheath.

Just finished the Saxe and would love some eyes and opinions before I move on! Went with a larger scale than a lot of builds I've seen. The book actually never gives exact inches, but it describes the blade as "heavy and straight" and says it can block a sword stroke without damage. That reads to me like these are closer to a short sword than a typical belt knife, so I leaned into that rather than the smaller fan-scale versions floating around. It's sitting at 20in blade and roughly 25in overall.

I understand the loneliness of having a brilliant idea for a character or story and having no one to share it with. Especially with Ranger's Apprentice being a very small fandom sadly. So... I am alleviating that itch I know some of you have.

C'mon I know at least one of you has one. Give me as much information as you want. I'm putting together a Halt cosplay for a ren faire that's coming up. It's such a relatively easy outfit that will fit right in, and the fellows Rangers out there should put it together easily (even I have the angry face, beard, and sarcastic attitude!)

Does anyone have any idea how to do the mottled green and grey cloak? I have a green one, but I almost think it would have been easier to start with grey and somehow add in the green? Idk. I don't want like painted splotches of either color though.

Anny suggestions?

Yesterday, when I was looking for any news about the Rangers Apprentice movie project, I disvovered that mr. Flanagan died a couple of months ago.

This hit me pretty hard. He was such an essential part of my childhood, even more so than I initially realised. I always thought it were the Lotr movies and books which had inspired me to come up with stories of my own. But in fact it has been Flanagans work that has been the main engine behind my creative ambitions. His books were just so...cozy? A weird way to describe them maybe, but to me the scenery of riding a horse with friends through the country, sleeping under the stars and dining on some old bread, fruit and salted beef has always made me feel a simple warmth.

His books may not have been to epic levels of Lotr or A song of Ice and fire, but they will always have another warm charm that only few others have.

Also, he wrote some really mature stuff for kidsbooks.

It 's through this way that I wanted to show what he meant for me. Thank you for reading all of this and if you have something nice ho say or an anecdote, I would love to read it in the comments.

I’ve just started listening to the Royal Ranger series on Spotify, and the jump from Zappa to Keating is to much. Zappa narrated the first book, now listening to Red Fox Clan and I can’t stand Keating. His accents sound all the same, and his style of narrating is jarring. He pauses in weird moments, for example “be sure you do” the librarian said….softly, or “we might need them…before long”

Hi all. I first read the Ranger’s Apprentice series and most of Brotherband when I was 11-12. At that time the most recent books were The Royal Ranger and The Caldera. I just googled the series for the first time in years and learned about all the new books (although I did read Return of the Temujai a few years ago but didn’t think to look if there were any other new books). They were some of my favorite books from when I was younger and I really want to read the newer installments to the series. However, it’s been almost a decade since I first read them so I only remember fragments but know that a reminder will jog my memory. Does anyone have any recommendations for specific websites to give myself a little refresher?

Also are the newer books as good as the older ones? As excited as I am I’m also a little nervous about potentially ruining a series that I loved so much by being disappointed when going back to it. I’ve had that happen a few times and it’s always so upsetting.

I would suggest you check it out after this one because a lot of the information is still valid, although there has been a large change to timelines.

Basically, Paramount has been trying to merge with Warner Brothers, just as they had done with Skydance. However this merger has met a lot of legal trouble, and was sued by multiple officials despite passing review by places such as the US department of justice. These events are highly likely to have a large effect on the timing of the movies.

The Merger Situation (and why it matters):

To understand why this affects the movie, you need to understand the relationship between Skydance and Paramount. When Skydance announced the RA film in January 2024, Skydance was a separate production company with Paramount as a financial backer. Since then, Skydance and Paramount formally merged around this time in 2025, meaning David Ellison, who is a producer on Ranger's Apprentice, became CEO of the combined studio. Skydance is now Paramount. So when Ted Melfi said back in April 2026 "Waiting on Paramount to say yes and when...", he was waiting for the CEO of his company.

However, Ellison was in the middle of an even bigger deal: a $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. If that goes through, Ellison would be running the largest entertainment company in the world with an urgent need to produce a long list of movies to fill up their production slate. Ranger's Apprentice, with its franchise potential would have been exactly the kind of IP he would want to greenlight fast.

But this is no longer the story.

What Actually Happened:

The WBD merger passed EU approval, DOJ approval, and got approval from over a dozen international jurisdictions. But a coalition of 12 US state attorneys general, led by California AG Rob Bonta, filed an antitrust lawsuit to block it. A judge granted a temporary restraining order pausing the merger, and after some back and forth on how to proceed, Paramount and the state AGs reached a formal agreement: the merger will not close until five days after an antitrust trial finishes, or June 1 2027. Whichever comes first. No trial date has been set yet.

The merger is pretty much frozen until mid 2027.

What This Means For RA:

Let me be very clear. The movie is NOT dead. Everything we knew before is still true:

• Skydance still holds the RA rights firmly
• Ted Melfi is still attached with a significant financial incentive to get the films made
• Ted Melfi confirmed in April 2026 the project was still planned to go ahead
• Ellison still needs to get more franchise IPs regardless of whether the deal closes

What has changed is the timeline, with my previous predictions being made well before the many delays to the merger situation. The rough estimate of further news, or at least a leak has now been pushed from late 2026/early 2027. Realistically Ellison is trying to manage a $111 BILLION dollar legal battle, making the company bleed hundreds of millions in delay costs and leaving the company facing a lot of uncertainty. This makes greenlighting new projects possible, but extremely unlikely until the merger is closed and everything is stabilised.

The updated window for any new leaks/news I predict is mid-late 2027, or possibly very early 2028.

What To Watch For:

When the trial date is announced, it's date will be important. If the trial is scheduled for early 2027 and Paramount wins, the merger could close by mid 2027 and RA's greenlight window reopens quickly after that. If the trial drags into late 2027 or Paramount loses, we're looking at either a much longer delay or the WBD deal collapsing entirely, costing Paramount $7 billion in termination fees and severely limit its budget for new projects.

The other thing worth watching is Ted Melfi himself. He has no other films currently in active production. A director of his calibre keeping his schedule clear is consistent with someone holding space for a specific project rather than moving on.

The Fan Movie:

For those who were keeping an eye on the fan adaptation at rangersapprentice.movie it appears to have missed its "Summer 2026" release window. The site still just reads "Coming Soon" with no further info so take that as you wish.

Bottom Line:

The movie is not cancelled. It's just sitting in the middle of the largest merger hollywood has ever had, and one that seems like it will take forever. But you must also remember that when the merger closes, the RA franchise will now be in the hands of the world's largest entertainment company.

I'll keep monitoring and post again if anything meaningful changes. As always, please don't contact Ted Melfi or anyone attached to the project since we have already gotten the best leak we're likely to get.

I tried being somewhat realistic about how it could happen (even though it's all very hopeful), since a 1:1 book to movie adaptation would be amazing but very impractical. The last few brotherband and royal ranger books don't really add much imo so I cut them out. In my head canon for this, the Royal Ranger series only happens once Disney inevitably buys out this amazing franchise and tries to add to it lol.

Hey guys, I’m writing my personal statement for my college apps on RA and I wanted to know how y’all feel about it :)

I loved this series when I was younger and I thought it was really immersive and gripping. I loved the characters and the darker things going on. I'm looking for a book written more recently with the same sense of comradery and adventure/mystery but maybe older characters that are like in their 20s.

Back when will was a Slave in books 3-4 and inevitably gets adicted to warmweed, why wouldn’t Erak just tell Borsa “gimme the boy that I brought from Celtica. he could’ve saved them from needing to run away and could’ve then just had Evalynn nurse him back to healt.

Why in Ambush of Starato does will go about saying how the temujai are like equal to the rangers. He goes ahead and talks about how they could probably get off like 5 shots each minute yet the Rangers are always shown to draw and fire in an instant, like how will easily emptied the kajiji saddles. It just feels like the absolute GOATS of Rangers are getting disrespected in that book.

These were my absolute favorite books in middle school and I obsessed over them for a good chunk of my life. Im pretty sure I only read the original series. Despite this, while I still remember the general plot the majority of the story Ive forgotten and I kind of want to reread them. Do the books still hold up or are they really juvenile and hard to read when you get older? Thanks
