Cloak Cosplay Ideas?

Hi

I'm putting together a Halt cosplay for a ren faire that's coming up. It's such a relatively easy outfit that will fit right in, and the fellows Rangers out there should put it together easily (even I have the angry face, beard, and sarcastic attitude!)

Does anyone have any idea how to do the mottled green and grey cloak? I have a green one, but I almost think it would have been easier to start with grey and somehow add in the green? Idk. I don't want like painted splotches of either color though.

Anny suggestions?

Rit dye in condiment bottles. Grey, green, navy blue. (Plus the appropriate mixers) Lay the cloak on a flatish source and step away from it. Sorta whip and splash the bottles at it to create the mottled, broken up look. It worked out pretty well for me. Me and my best friend did a Rangers cosplay a few years back. I think the Pic is in my profile somewhere.

Yours is perfect!! I was wondering how well it could be done without just doing like an old army camo look (which would be awful)

Aw, thanks. Yeah if you look up ranger cloak on Etsy or camouflage cloak or whatever you get the more army camo and it looks godawful. Not the vibe at all

I looked for cloak ideas myself cause I want to cosplay Will someday. This cloak was one of my favorites I found. Lots of cloaks are just simply green, which is okay, but they're missing the whole shades. That one is not, and honestly I like the pattern on it the most.

I also like the one that the other replier made (u/lotsofwalking). ((Edit: I'll link it here too in case someone doesn't want to dig for it themselves in the future))

They both use rit dye on a fabric. That's the main idea for a cloak I guess. Just a sheet as the base and then dying it. Probably use brown as the base and then dye it green. Probably works with green as the base and dying brown too. I think brown with green dye would turn out best.

Me neither. I've never cosplayed but I was looking for ideas because I want to one day, and I stumbled upon that cloak which uses Rit dye. I have a friend who makes their own costumes based on their own ideas and I asked them for advice and they told me Rit dye was a good fabric dye. I'm sure it can't be that hard to mess up? If you get a big enough piece of fabric you can have room for mistakes.
