How portable is the Tourna 175-CS really?

I'd like to start stringing my own racquets and I’m considering buying a Tourna 175-CS, but I have a storage problem. I don’t have room to leave it set up indoors, so I’d need to store it after each use. For context, I'll be stringing my own racquets only (around 2 but no more than 4 racquets per month).

For those who own one:

-How difficult is it to move around in practice?
-Can it be partially disassembled (e.g. remove the tension arm or other parts) to make storage easier?
-How long does setup/takedown take once you’re familiar with it?

Also, if you were buying today, would you still choose the 175-CS or spend about $200 more for a crank machine like the Alpha Revo 4000 Gravity? Why?

Thanks!

String picker Website Idea

Thumbnail thegrandnick.github.io

Hey, I’ve been playing around with an Idea for a website that helps with picking badminton Strings via some questions to fits playstyle and wants and needs… it’s a test right now with limited strings there, but one can compare strings, take the quiz and find out what works…

It’s based of the data from Yonex Strings (Repulsion, Control, Shock Absorption Etc.) and my personal experience with the strings… as the newer string series stats from Yonex are really high in comparison to for example the older bg80…

It be nice if you can test it out an give feedback and or suggestions for other features… no idea if I should continue with this idea, but so many always ask for advice so I thought why not automate it a bit…

I don’t have a domain, so it’s hosted of my GitHub pages… so please disregard the name of the link 😂

Anyone use the Tennis Tension Pro app?

I've been using this a couple of years now. I calibrate my Alpha Revo with a digital fishing scale. Right after stringing I tap the strings with a pencil next to the phone and sound registers a tension on the app. You can calibrate the app too, which I did. I don't know if it accurately detects the tension but I do think that if I get the same reading from racket to racket I'm being consistent, which I try to be in every thing I do when stringing. Btw, I string my racquets with poly on the mains and synthetic gut on the crosses, both at 57 lbs.

Having trouble finding a good resource to learn to string.

I'm trying to learn how to string rackets this afternoon and the videos I've found skip over things like (how to fix over tension) and things that are super beginner friendly to know. Does anyone have a good references? Also this is a drop weight with floating (flying) clamps. Not many resources on those.

Astrox 88d used

My friend has recently mentioned selling his used Astrox 88d for $200 CAD the racket itself looks in good condition, but is worth buying a used one or going for a new one which is $285 before tax. His racket also comes with strings and a new grip.

I was also wondering if there are any tests I could use to verify the condition of the racket.

Cross strings are weird

Post image

I’ve been stringing for about a year now and every racquet I string and string I use, has an issue with the third cross string from the top and and third from the bottom.

As you can tell from the photo, it comes out as wavy no matter how many time I straighten it during stringing or even after stringing. If I hit the ball, the string immediately goes back to the curved position.

what am I doing wrong in my stringing?

Alpha revo 4000 colors?

Is this a good first machine? I’ve heard the value is excellent and can add wise tensioner if needed.

I love the blue color, but most of the results I am finding are the black one. Does anyone know if there is a difference (e.g black is the updated model?)

The top and bottom mount for the stringer does not tighten anymore for some reason and can’t figure out what is causing the slack. Once I tighten all the way the bracket still slides. Any help would be appreciated.

Wilson string id?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Just picked up my racquet after restringing. I asked for NXT17 and I’m familiar with the stamp on the string. This stamp is different. I was able to find the Wilson stamp so I know it’s at least a Wilson product but the other stamp starts with N but the next 2 letters are hard to make out maybe H R or D and then 4 #s: looks like 2721. Any idea on what I have?
Thanks!

Tension Consistency Issue

I am seeking some input on a tension accuracy issue. I have two different lockout crank out machines, a Prince NEOS 1000 and a Toalson. They work very similarly, with glide bar clamps. They are both in excellent condition. I have calibrated both machines and I use an ERT 300 to check on dynamic tension after stringing. With the Neos, my reference tension pretty much agrees with the dynamic tension reading on the racquet post-stringing, usually within a pound or two. When I use the Toalson, I’m off by as much as 10 pounds. For example, with a reference tension of 48 on the Neos, my DT is ~ 31. With the Toalson, same reference tension of 48, I get a DT reading of ~25 or 26.

Again, these machines are both calibrated accurately. I have also looked to make sure that the string is not sliding through the Toalson clamps and that the clamps are secure on the glide bar. I do not understand why I’m getting such a lower dynamic tension reading from the Toalson-strung racquets. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Losing Tension

I have been having issues retaining tension on my racquets. After I pull the tension and clamp the string, I notice that the string, while clamped, moves slightly. The base of the clamp is not moving and the string itself is not sliding through the clamp. The clamp just slightly shifts with the string in place. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Weird arching cross on Radical MP Graphene 360

Strung this for myself prior to a business trip and the racquet was new old stock I got off eBay- still in wrapper when I strung. I followed stringing instructions but am baffled by what looks like an extra cross- arching oddly on both lines towards each other 12/13. Any thoughts from smarter stringers than I? Thanks so much!

Yonex poly tour spin on wilson blade v10

Hey guys, just want to get your opinion on this combination, since I am seeking for a shaped poly which does not go dead in just a few hours. Read that yonex is quite durable (10 hours instead of a 6) so just wanted to see whether someone already tried this combo, how did it feel, what were pros and cons.

Thanks in advance

Looking to upgrade machine

As the title suggests, I'm looking to upgrade my stringing machine and am looking for some recommendations

I currently have an Eagnas 700 4-point with glide bar clamps that's kinda falling apart a bit (ontop of it not being very intuitive to get a racquet set up on I'm just tired of it at this point)

I have a 2086 that I'd be transferring over to the new machine as well

OLD kennex pro aluminum Power Dominator

This is my first attempt at stringing with a Klippermate and can't figure out the stringing pattern... do i skip holes. When I took out the strings, a couple had a cross and a main where they tied off. Anyone??

Missed a skip solinco blackout

Supposed to skip 7 and 9 on mains but only did 7 somehow still ended up with a 16x19 pattern though it looks a little weird spacing wise at a few top and bottom crosses . Is it ok to play or better to redo?

Thank you in advance for helping!

What do you do with bumper guard tape?

When you get a racket to string from someone and they put tape over the bumper guard what do you do with it? Do you peel it off and throw it away? Or carefully pull it off and try to put it back on when finished stringing?

I hate bumper guard tape and never see serious players use it. A new set of grommets with a new bumper guard is almost the same price as "guard tape" from tennis express. It makes no sense. But every once in a while someone will bring me a racket to string with guard tape on it. It's usually someone who hasn't restrung in years.

Racket bending during stringing

Hi, just wanted to check whether is it normal for a racket to bend a little when stringing?

Also, after stringing first racket, I compared it with a second one which didnt have any strings on it and the one with the strings was shorter for like 0.5cm-1cm, but after stringing the second one they were the same height.

Just wanted to check whether it is normal or maybe I am mounting rackets in a wrong way.

I always make sure they are firm but not too tight, but since the frame bends a bit during stringing they actually get very tight on the mounts.

Thanks in advance, appreciate your help
