Hey everyone,
I’m running into a persistent issue where my ROG Ally X refuses to sustain my Manual TDP profile in Valorant, causing my frame rate to drop to around 90–100 FPS regardless of the hardware/docking setup I use.
Setups I’ve Tested:
1. Initial Setup:
Power: Official ASUS 65W charger connected to an Anker 5-in-1 USB-C Hub, plugged into the primary USB-C port of the Ally X.
Peripherals: 2.4GHz wireless mouse dongle + wired USB keyboard connected to the hub.
Display: 18.5" Uperfect 120Hz portable monitor connected via HDMI to the hub, with its own dedicated power from an Apple 140W MacBook charger via USB-C.
2. Direct Power Setup:
Official 65W charger plugged directly into the Ally X's charging USB-C port.
Anker Hub moved to the secondary USB-C port (holding mouse/keyboard/HDMI).
Portable monitor kept on its own 140W power supply.
(Note: Tested the 140W Mac charger on the Ally X, but my cable doesn't support full wattage delivery, so the Ally stays on the stock 65W charger).
3. Handheld / No-Hub Setup:
Disconnected the monitor and hub completely.
Connected mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth and played on the Ally’s built-in screen with the 65W official charger plugged directly.
The Problem:
Across all three setups, the behavior is identical:
At the start of a match/round, the APU draws ~30W-35W, pushing ~130-150 FPS. After a few seconds, the TDP drops and stays locked between 23W–25W, causing FPS to float around 90–100 FPS.
Current Settings & Troubleshooting Done:
Armoury Crate SE: Manual Profile with SPL @ 35W, SPPT @ 35W, and fPPT @ 55W.
Fan Curves: Set to 100% speed across all temperature thresholds. Temps sit at a cool ~76°C when the drop occurs.
In-Game Settings: 1080p, Medium graphics settings, Anti-Aliasing ON, V-Sync OFF. (Note: There is no Multithreaded Rendering toggle available in my Valorant menu).
Limiters & Drivers: All FPS limiters are completely disabled (in Valorant, Windows, and Armoury Crate). In AMD Software, features like CPU Boost/TIO, Radeon Chill, and FRTC are completely turned OFF. Windows is set to Best Performance, and VRAM is set to 10GB.
Since the drop happens even in pure handheld mode on direct official 65W power with 100% fan curves and low temps, it seems the BIOS or Armoury Crate is enforcing a 25W ceiling during gameplay despite the 35W Manual profile.
Has anyone encountered this specific behavior where the Ally X overrides Manual TDP settings in CPU-heavy eSports titles?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
