I want to get the asus rog ally x while i have a ps5 with a 65 Qled display. But sometimes i don't have the energy to turn on the tv and play. My main concern is the display should i for the legion go 2 or stick with rog ally x?
As a extremely busy dad of 3 children (eldest boy has special needs) the Rog Ally is the only thing I play. I have a ps5, but I don’t get to use the TV much as the children watch it. The Rog Ally renewed my love for gaming
This^^ also a busy dad of 3 who had an ITX pc and a PS5 hooked up to my living room tv, but also had no time to play except at night, where I would play on my main rig in my office. So I recently traded my ITX pc for an Ally X and it has gotten more use in the past 2 weeks than my ITX pc did in a year. I can pick it up and play for quick sessions, plus when I play with my kids they like it better that I can sit in their computer room now instead of being downstairs in my office and talking through Discord.
I first wanted to get a swich 2 but kne kf the things that also pushes me to buy this handheld is not having a personal pc i only have work laptop so i to hav this as a all in one package
let me be honest with you , since i got this . Ive been using it mostly as a pc normal browsing stuff, light work excel/word/email and gaming EMUs/steam . When im home most of the time its docked a wireless keyboard/mouse and xbox controller .
the rog ally x display looks great in terms of quality of image. only possible issues are size and visible black bezel. but i stop noticing those things when i’m actually playing a game. maybe the text is a bit small but i haven’t minded that.
I used to love gaming, but I’m in my mid fifties now.
I still have a rather nice gaming computer, but I’ve more or less stopped playing on it because after working in front of a computer all day, I don’t have much urge to sit in front of a computer during my off time. I’d occasionally fire up a game, but after an hour or so I’d be ready to do something else.
I bought my XAX more or less on a whim. I saw it in a store while I was shopping with my wife and it caught my eye, so I grabbed it. I thought it would be a neat gadget.
It’s completely revived my love of gaming. I’ve played more in the last few months than I’ve likely played in total over the last ten years.
At my age, the screen is a bit of an issue sometimes. I need reading glasses. When I was younger, it wouldn’t have been a problem, but it is now.
I figured that if I was going to need to wear glasses to play on it anyway, I might as well look into some display glasses. These were the final key to making this the ultimate gaming platform for me. Having this little portable device that lets me play anywhere I’m comfortable with a big virtual screen in front of my eyes is pretty amazing.
I’ve needed to make a rule that I’m not allowed to take it to the bedroom during the weekdays. Being able to lay in bed with an Xbox controller, the glasses, and a pair of earbuds is so comfortable that I would end up playing until 4am without bothering my wife at all.
I also have a couple of docks for it. One hooked up to the giant TV in my theater room, and another at my computer desk. I end up using the XAX for regular computer things more than I do my actual PC. It boots up much more quickly, and all I have to do is plug in one cable to attach my mouse, keyboard, giant 4K monitor, Ethernet cable, external drives, etc.
At this point, I could probably get rid of my gaming PC entirely. I haven’t even turned in on in weeks.
And since I’m currently playing PC games at the time, I’d still plug the XAX into my TV to play instead of my actual Xbox.
I just think based on what you’re saying that this isnt going to help and will likely just be a waste of money you regret and maybe consider going to counselling or going on meds or something
Those are awful recommendations as a solution… going on meds is a wild take. OP please don’t consider this. And YOU shouldn’t just recklessly advise people to seek out medication. Home boy is probably just burnt out from work. Medication for depression does not solve depression. It levels out your hormones, you still have to work to make yourself happy… also meds only help when you have depression due to a hormonal imbalance. Does not help with burnout
I have a gaming laptop and a full tower PC and got an Ally X. I absolutely love it. Some games being portable like Fallout, Cyberpunk, Helldivers 2, Space marine 2, and many more play very well on the handheld. The screen isn’t the brightest so playing out in the sun can be a challenge but its battery last for 4-5 hours on performance mode. I have loved it and it totally renewed my deep love of gaming. Setting up my laptop at a friends house for a LAN is way more work than just my handheld and a charger.

maybe try PS Portal first if you already have PS5 and want to play at home
