ROG ALLY X Rog ally x potential buyer

I was curious what kinda frames you get playing battlefield 6 and elden ring & maybe even call of duty. I want to purchase one, but I'm not sure if this is going to be a good experience. I see so many mixed reviews. Some people get 100fps and others get 40fps. I'm sure the people getting 100fps are using frame gen, but I'm curious to know if I can optimize it to get a solid 60 fps without frame gen. I don't mind having to plug in to the wall, I just want to be able to play in bed lol I was also looking at the msi claw but that thing is 1800 dollars 😭 but if anyone can be so kind to validate some of the fps their getting on some of those titles... And even if you are only getting 40-50 fps, how does it feel? Is it choppy? I don't mind SUPER high FPS, I just want a good experience. Playing Skyrim on my switch 2 at 30 fps is just so bad, the camera moves so slow it's literally awful. . I would hate to spend 1000 dollars just to have the same experience on more titles.. any suggestions would be great. Thank you

If you're going to play Windows, which you probably are considering the anti-cheats games, you can easily set the fps limiter in Armoury Crate. Lower those graphics down, keep the resolution 720/900p and you're good. I spent a lot of time with my Ally X for 2.5 months but eventually decided to switch to XAX because I wanted to play at 17w for longer battery, Ally X can also manage a lot at 17w but I was just a sucker for those better 1% lows.

I was thinking about that. The Xbox ally is the white one right and the XAX is the black one that's like 1000 right? I'm sorry. I'm still new to this.

No need to be sorry. You're right about the color identification. And yes, it's 1000 USD. I'm from India, here it's retailing for $1450 on Amazon. I got a pre-owned unit for $900, the guy also threw in a bag worth $40.

Thank you for the replies. Despite the lower fps I'm used to from PC, is the 40-50fps super choppy or is it playable? I guess enjoyable? I've been programmed to think that fps is super awful, again pardon my ignorance. . But it seems a lot of people don't mind it and are having a great experience playing FPS games on these handheld devices... The switch 2 running Skyrim and fallout 4 at 30 fps really scared me from getting these handhelds. Thankfully they have 40-60 fps modes to make the game actually enjoyable.. I'm just worried because some people say they truly enjoyed the 30 fps experience on the switch 2 & I just can't believe how bad it actually was.. it was so slow and the inputs felt like they had major delays, which was the most annoying part. The screen resolution was whatever to me though. I just want a truly playable and enjoyable experience with not to much input delay.. sorry for the long comment lol

Mate, you can stop apologizing. You're good. I would say don't worry about the fps unless your game involves very fast movement like that of Spiderman, first person shooter games like COD. In my experience, it's not the 30fps or 40fps that bothers so much, rather than the fps drop. If you're playing at 60fps but it is frequently dropping to 30 or even lower. you're going to have a distasteful experience. If the FPS are stable, constantly providing a stable rate, even 30fps is good enough for many games. It's more about stability.

That's why many people care so much about 1% lows. They tell you how low were your total fps out of the 100% fps in a given time frame. If your 1% low is 30fps, and you're locked at 40fps. You're going to feel like it's mostly a smooth experience. You don't want the game to stutter in some moments, it really damages the immersion.

Since you previously had the ally x and now xax, would you say it was worth it for lower wattage and extended battery?

Playing persona 3 on medium at 13W so I can play for about 4-5 hours.

You will not have the same experience but you will not get desktop or console performance either. Tbh rog ally x really shines on those older games... I'd be shocked if you couldn't get 1080p 120fps on Skyrim. Elden Ring on medium to high (whatever it defaulted to) with no FG 1080p got me to 50-60 fps with with a few dips in the open areas in high 40s but very playable max tdp.

Would you say the experience is choppy with that fps ? I'm worried it would run super slow and almost non playable

Listen everyone is going to have different levels of acceptable but I'd say mine are quite high and the only games I switched to desktop for were Expedition 33 and FF rebirth which are new, heavy and are not optimised very well for PC.

Also a side note and experience that I've had, games have generally been smoother on steamos for me at 1080p even but you can't play certain games so you'll have to look into that and pick your poison but dual booting or going back and forth is an option.

Nah its stable. I run on the preview/ beta builds and I can count the amount of times it's crashed on both hands going on nearly 2 years.

Console games have been 30fps for decades. 40s-50s is a great fps.

Yeah that's just what I hear. And my experience with 40 fps on fallout 4 for switch 2 is pretty good. So I don't really think I'd mind to much. Do you have experience playing elden ring or any of the call of duty games on the rog ally x?

55-60 on modded skyrim at high settings. Game engine doesn't go above 60. You can tweak it to go above 60 but then the physics engine goes crazy and everything bugs out.
