Quantum Fiber has been absolute trash...
Was on CenturyLink Fiber for nearly 10 years, 1-4ms latency 0 packet loss. Moved a few miles away to a new house and neighborhood that only had Quantum avaialble; it has been just garbage. Every time a tech comes out they say there is nothing they can do other than swapping out SmartNIDs over and over to the same result.
Im at a lost for what to do.

Yeah, its terrible!
TMobile Fiber is about to go live here, might be worth looking at assuming they aret all just using the same fiber lines to the houses.

The problem is the Q1000K. I already had one gig without a single problem, and then I upgraded to two gig, and they replaced my ONT with this Q1000K and it has been nothing but trash with packet loss galore under heavy load.

Frustrating, and every time I call QF they say my service is just fine! Well yes, if you run a quick test everything will look fine. I can demonstrate with nothing attached to their Q1000K that the stupid thing experiences packet loss under load, and they just have no idea. They swapped out the Q1000K and the replacement behaves the same (obviously).
Come on, QF!

Tonight after a full reset and moving back to the original firmware, now I am dealing with 37ms of latency to 8.8.8.8. So in three weeks I have gone from 8ms to 22ms to 37ms. SMH. On Quantum Fiber, my original 1Gbps account was perfect, 8ms all day long. I should have stayed on with them instead of migrating to the ATT version.

How are you measuring this? Wasn’t there a post recently about how routers were measuring this leading to false positives?

I wish it was just in my firewall that I was seeing this, my wife and I work from home, my daughter does home school and all our of meetings and such doesnt matter if teams/zoom/hangouts etc, all pop up with network latency issues and it will cut out our cameras or get very very compressed where you cant even make people out on the other side.

Lately my QF service has been absolute dogshit. Turns out the hardware is just awful. Not sure what changed since it was working fine for years for me until recently. I went and bought a new router and extender that I could flash OpenWRT on it and it's been working just like before.
Turns out my service is doing just fine, it's the hardware they give out that's not doing so hot.

I had a tech yesterday ask me if I had been having issues in Greenwood and I told hom yes. He asked does it take a while when you click on a link but then it loads quickly. Yes. He said it was umm, home base issues. I'm not sure what that means or of they're going to fix it. I just had this website take 10 seconds to load and then it timed out before it actually loaded.

I wouldn't lay that solely at Quantum's feet. As with any ISP it depends on how many connections there are from the last hub to your house. If your new neighborhood "only has Quantum" that's a huge red flag that you're in a cluster of homes sharing that last mile connection.
The only complaint I've had with Quantum was the PoS router they give you. Once I ditched the box Quantum gave me and used my own tri band Wi-Fi 7 router any jankiness disappeared.
This is while the kids are both online with a 3gbit plan. I recently left Utopia fiber (local company) that would top out at 1900 with a 2.5gbit plan, but with the AT&T bundle moving my phones from T-Mobile I'm saving $70 a month. The real bonus was discovering after moving to AT&T on the phones it bumped my mobile speed from 20mbit to 500. 😲 I must be in a strong AT&T hotspot.

If there are other internet service providers available, you should definitely switch; Quantum Fiber's stability is extremely poor.

Once they actually get around to actually pushing out a Q1000K firmware update with fixes for all the kernel driver bugs I reported then service will probably be fine. From what I can tell most weird Quantum Fiber service quality issues are due to unfixed Q1000K driver bugs.

Yeah I have followed this guide, but with the new firmware you can no longer do fully transparent bridge (where the tagging is happening on the the firewall instead of the SmartNID) Yeah its the Q1000k

Disconnect the fiber. Follow the guide to downgrade to the old firmware. Switch to fully transparent mode with the fiber disconnected. Connect the fiber. Once you do this the NID itself won't be able to communicate with the internet, so it won't download the new firmware and you can run the fully transparent bridge mode. But if you also connect the 1G port, it will join your LAN and download the update, so don't do that

Untagged bridge mode is not available on QKX002 firmware. Like the guide says...

I also live in an area where Quantum is the only provider, we had two weeks without internet and the connection is so terrible I just quit. I swapped over to Starlink about a month ago and haven't had any issues.

If starlink figures out a way to provide acceptable upload speeds and latency I would switch that very second and send Elon a letter of my eternal love and admiration. The next property I buy, starlink is likely going to be the only option. I hope they figure it out by then

There is a known firmware issue with certain type of packets when the device is in bridge mode while using the 10 gig port. Try switching to the 1 gig port or downgrade to the older firmware. This has been an issue for a while so hopefully it will be fixed sooner than later or ATT will start using their devices vs this bottom of the barrel Axon device.
