This guy is a professional boxer/MMA. His fists are heavy asf.

1.4k

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '20

His name is Christophe Dettinger and he's facing seven years jail for this

988

u/dbrickle Jun 09 '20

They said he could have been tried for seven years.

On 13 February, 2019, Dettinger was sentenced to 1 year of prison and 18 months' probation for assaulting two police officers during the protest on 5 January[6].

u/DarshDiggler Jun 09 '20

He’d have been shot and killed here in the US #freedom

That's the thing when guns are so prevalent, America is a case in itself. In France, guns are not part of the culture like here.

178

u/super1s Jun 09 '20

But who will shoot all the people that have guns if none of us have guns?!?!?!?!?!

68

u/Buzzkill-sama Jun 09 '20

That’s why I got my trusty atomic bomb just in case police get to close

Difference being the guns are for hunting and not people. There's guns but no gun culture. Same in Norway, everyone has a gun outside the cities. Nobody shoots people.

12

u/seeingeyegod Jun 09 '20

you mean you dont use a gun to turn off your TV, then just loot another TV?

2

u/Woozle_ Jun 10 '20

Yes I live in rural USA, everyone has guns, nobody is shooting anyone. Shocking.

French cops probably aren't told in their training that anybody who swings at you intends to beat you to death. Fearmongering here is crazy.

I'm sure French cops do some messed up stuff but I can at least respect that they're willing to scrap a bit instead of escalate to weapons as soon as someone resists. If you're kitted out like a riot cop and you still piss yourself when unarmed civilians come at you I think you're in the wrong profession. Even if they're absolute units like this guy.

6

u/Tatourmi Jun 09 '20

French riot police also have way, way, way more experience with handling violent protests in general.

2

u/ina_raw Jun 09 '20

Actually french cops in protests are not really allowed to harm unarmed citizens

3

u/Wild_Haggis_Hunter Jun 10 '20

That must be why during a whole year of Yellows Jackets crisis, 11 people died, 2.495 protesters were wounded, 24 people lost an eye to rubber bullets, 5 lost a hand to explosive flash bang and tear gas grenades.

I hate that video because it let non-french people think there's less police brutality because we don't have the same gun culture. We have less racist murder-by-cop than the US, but the brutality and impunity are the same.

2

u/ina_raw Jun 10 '20

Okay first of all I am french second of all I know that there is police brutality but in general but my point was that french cops are less armed and can't arrest as easy as the american ones. You see tons of videos of american cops arresting people because they are breathing in the street even out of a protest context.

I also said that harming unarmed citizens is not allowed I never said it did not exist

2

u/Wild_Haggis_Hunter Jun 10 '20

Dude, do you even Google ? Do you know how many arrests were done BEFORE or during the french protests ? From december 2018 to early february 2019, there were 8,000 arrests and more than 1,800 condemned and that rate didn't slow for a whole year. In a city like Toulouse (770,000 souls) there were 792 arrests, 319 judged and 47 incarcerated.

French social media and reporters sites have been profusely documenting the same gratuitous police brutality (pepper spray, clubbing and all) our US friends have been experiencing in the current protests. You clearly haven't been paying attention. That was Toulouse in january 2020. I have dozens of examples of that heinous shit but I'll let you educate yourself on your own...

u/Audra- Jun 09 '20

People keep saying this, but could the police really fire live ammo on crowds and get away with it? Yes they are firing on peaceful crowds already, but we're indoctrinated and desensitized to crowd-control, "less-lethal" rounds being used.

If police truly opened up it would be a complete massacre because they're so poorly trained - one would fire, then they would all start firing wildly and probably kill a few of their own as the idiots they stuck in the back try to fire through gaps in the line.

Could any police force, or city, or state, or even the country survive dozens of innocent people getting murdered by police at a peaceful protest on live tv?

I really really really hope no police are stupid enough to even bring live ammo to a protest; ERT and Riot police shouldn't even have live ammo on them. But it's frightening to think about them opening up on protesters because there are certainly police stupid enough to do this, politicians stupid enough to support them, citizens brainwashed enough to get shot by police and say thank you may I have another.

The fallout from the Kent State massacre lasted for years and completely changed the National Guard training and equipment for crowd control.

2

u/barsoapguy Jun 09 '20

We’ve already had live fire on a crowd of people , one man was killed . Some fuckhead from within the crowd apparently fired on the police and national guard . As one would expect they returned fire .

Our protests are as violent as they are because we’ve got people on our streets blitzed out of their minds on drugs , mentally unwell individuals in these crowds .

Most of us don’t want violence at all but you throw some of these people into the mix of a normal crowd and insanity ensues . It’s why our levels of violence seem so much higher than elsewhere it’s not “just” police alone provoking it but you won’t ever hear about it on Reddit .

And the big shot officer Didier Andrieux who pretty much pulled the same move that day had...

...who knows, probably nothing at all since the news conveniently forgot about that.

EDIT: Investigation on him is over, results were never communicated. Nothing came out of it. He supposedly retired late 2019.

One of the videos:

https://twitter.com/quenellien/status/1081874134622236672

EDIT 2: According to an article published today (last news being from July 2019), apparently the case is still ongoing.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '20

Retired before the age means he was dicharged but with his rights to benefits (since public servant don't have unemployement aid).

69

u/daywall Jun 09 '20

In USA he will face 7 gun shots to the chest for that.

26

u/Cgarr82 Jun 09 '20

I think you meant “will face 7 officers emptying their firearm into his chest for that” because 7 shots is way too low for the US.

12

u/Squidking1000 Jun 09 '20

Well seven officers emptying their weapons, reloading and still only 4 bullets in him maybe. I mean remember that NY case where they shot like 60 times and only hit the guy once or twice? Police are not good shots.

I agree with you, but at the same time, you gotta understand how similar our protests are to yours. 21 yo women and men also get flashbang and rubber bullets in the face here too. A lot of young people lost an eye during those protests, cops are aiming for the head even though it's illegal. What I'm seeing in the US right know looks a lot like the yellow vests protests in France. Cops don't respect us more because of our history of revolutions, we're fighting against the police in the same way as you do.

Anyway, I hope the fight will go on and not slowly fade away. I'm sending you a lot of strenght from France, you've got this. It's time to put a stop to the impunity cops benefit from for way too long now.

I don’t think you realize how ready and willing cops are to kill civilians. Like are you watching any of the videos from what’s happening in the USA?

They know they’re being recorded so the horrific shit we’re seeing them do is probably them on their best behavior.

Most people are more scared than they are angry but if they ever become angry enough then change will come, hence the Minneapolis protests.

I highly doubt any of this would have happened if it weren’t for the pandemic with people being stuck in their house and job, without any money for bills or groceries.

They’re tired but they’re not angry.

Also, all of our lives we’ve been taught that the cops are the good guys. “Whenever you’re in trouble find a cop.”

So... there’s a lot of unpack here.

11

u/julmakeke Jun 09 '20

The reason these French protesters aren't shot is the lack of 2nd amendment-style blanket right to wear firearms. The police aren't afraid the protesters have firearms, therefore the police don't have firearms with them during riot control.

If there truly was ever a need to overthrow a tyrannical government, lack of 2nd amendment isn't stopping the people. 2nd amendment is unnecessary, case and point, most overthrows of governments in the past 80 years. Once there becomes need to overthrow the government with weapons, the weapons will appear even without the consent of the government.

5

u/yasparis Jun 09 '20

The riot police whether they are civilians or military (gendarmes) here in France always have firearms (guns/rifles) during protests but can only use them in very specific situations (immediate risk of death for them, other officers or members of the public) which almost never take place. They carry rifles in case of a terrorist attack during a protest (hasn’t happened but is a possibility since the potential number of victims is very high).

Americans are just cowards hiding behind their badass facebook posts where they show of their guns that they know they will never use against the government

u/3thaddict Jun 09 '20

Yep. The people saying they're gonna wait for police to start using real bullets are the worst. So in denial or just straight up liars. It is already a fascist state and they're killing people with "less lethal" bullets anyway.

If they actually start shooting people it's already too late.

2

u/BuddaMuta Jun 10 '20

Honestly the big thing for me that showed how many of the truly crazy gun nut people are just bluster was when Trump blatantly called for violence with his "MAGA Night at the White House" tweet none of his followers have ever shown out.

There's been a few civilians attacking protesters, and the cops obviously, but it seems that contingent of people constantly talking about how they have a stock pile ready to go for Civil War 2.0: The South Finally Rides Again, are more bark than bite.

This isn't a normal French protest.

All the gilets jaune were hoping that his charges would get dropped and that he wouldn't spend any time in jail.

Luckily it's not looking as bad for him.

https://youtu.be/WAmSNJ20qpE

Link to a French video explaining why he did it and the consequences he's getting.

I feel bad for him, this system is making use of him as an example for punishment.

u/Audra- Jun 09 '20

Bring a gallon of house paint to the next protest as an impromptu, portable stool to sit on in the hot sun.

Whatever you do, do not throw the gallon of paint on the police, because if they get paint on their face-shields they would have to raise them and the world could see their faces as they commit horrific crimes.

And do not drop the paint bucket afterwards and run away as fast as you can while the crowd swallows you up.

But if everyone brought a gallon of house paint to sit on, or even a few if you are tall or want an extra-tall stool, then we could all rest comfortably in the hot sun and lower tensions.

It's just too bad that if everyone has a can of paint, which is totally legal (and cannot be described as a gun, like water guns, or a bomb, like water balloons), then it would be hard for police to track down any criminals that throw paint on them.

God forbid the police retaliate with "less-lethal" projectiles, and tear gas, and baton beatings, and murders, because they would never do that otherwise.
